white consoles = awesome
It looks like a prototype more than anything (I dont think the final version will be white), but I like how theyre trying to make it more compact. The controller also looks good, but again, looks like a prototype. But, you know what? Id hit it.
ugly and white!
Maybe it's just the shitty picture but it looks like they did something terrible wrong with the face buttons. Besides how there's not six of them.
logitech is now a first-party contractor in the controller business I see!
*nod*
Makaze from IGN indicates these images which CGNO is pretty excited about is "old", so who knows originally when those pictures were taken. Couldn't get anymore out of him since Xbox hardware/gossip ain't his beat. Either way, at least we've got something to go on.
I saw this about a month ago. It looks okay, and the controller looks comfortable. I don't know about those two "hoop" things, but it reminds me of the GCN.
Why do people love 6 face buttons? I find it clustered.
From the back of the controller, it's pretty obvious it's battery powered, which would mean wireless. As to four buttons, It looks like there are two buttons above the triggers (kinda like the Z button on the Gamecube controller, I guess).
Because it'd be just like having the current Xbox controller only without two of the buttons being retardedly indented.Quote:

these were debunked as soon as they were shown during the GDC.
I don't think that name is going to fly, but they've stuck to that lately cuz it's something which they felt denotes innovation and was "cool". I couldn't see myself going to the store asking to buy an Xbox 360. I am sure they'll think up something slick.
Backwards compatability while missing buttons is also not as effective.Quote:

Theif, that's the big thing. I like the white look to it, hopefully, they keep that as an option for the final unit.
And people laugh at what the GC looks like? I don't like the way that thing looks at all. Good thing it's an old prototype. You better believe it's going to be smaller than the original xbox for the japanese.
When I got my Dreamcast, I realized white consoles are NOT cool if you have a black cat.

lol!
Maybe thats just the Japanese model with the handle. The handle slides out and you can then wheel the Xbox around like luggage since its so heavy. The poor Japanese couldnt lift the old XBox so this is Microsofts solution :)

Ever see when they test new prototype cars? They never show the actual body of the car. They add a bunch of clunky padding and extras so the competitors can't see the shape of the car.
I would imagine they do the samething in console design.
But that is when they are testing the cars on public roads. And this was an internal demonstration, I doubt there would be any reason to hide the design.Quote:

They're all better than "Playstation." "I'm gonna go play on my Playstation 2," sounds like something from a bad early 80's movie trying to predict what kids will do in the future.Quote:

Exactly, I say it and it sounds just fine. It's only whenever I stop to think about it that I once again realize how amazingly stupid it is: It's a play station and its followup is a play station 2. Also makes it sound like a playpen or one of those multitoys where different shaped blocks go into holes and stuff for kids under five.Quote:

its ok. Just worried about how much unnecessary space those arcs are gonna take up.
Controller looks good, but that circle crap on the system looks like such a waste of space. I really hope that's just their gimmick unit just like the gaint X console that they first revealed with the original Xbox.
If that is it, no one can ever make fun of the GameCube's handle again.
i definately love the white, the controller looks good, but nothing special, as a matter of fact it looks very much like the Logitech xbox controller. anyways, im glad the blk/wht buttons are gone...but then again we all knew that.
as for the system, it looks like total ass, i sure home to god it doesnt look like that....heck i can't even make up it's head from ass....and is that a Gamecube like handle? can't wait to see people make fun of that!
Engadget has a post up about how Microsoft is supposedly going to debut the next Xbox on May 12th... on a half-hour MTV special hosted by Elijah Woods.
So, there you go.
I don't remember where it was that I saw this, but someone at Microsoft stated that although the next Xbox will come in different colors at release, the main theme will be silver. The white looks pretty nice, though.
one more thing, if that is a battery pack on the back of the controllers then it wireless.
I applaud Marwan for rediscovering all the observations on the first page.
Such an intrepid poster.
STFU!
Judging from RGB values in the pics, its white too.

NEW YORK -- The revolution will be televised. Xbox 2 -- aka Codename Xenon, the next-generation gaming console from Microsoft -- will make its first appearance on a yet-untitled half-hour special that will be broadcast globally across all MTV stations.
The move bucks industry protocol to make major debuts at E3 in Los Angeles-the largest trade show in the gaming industry. "It doesn't make sense to unveil the product behind a closed door, at a trade-only event. We wanted to talk directly to the consumer first," said Peter Moore, corporate vp-worldwide marketing and publishing for Microsoft Xbox.
The MTV special, hosted by actor Elijah Wood on May 12, will feature a performance by rock band the Killers. Athletes and celebs will show off the console's new features. MTV will air teaser spots prior to the event and screening parties will be held in countries in which MTV airs.
Moore said the launch strategy is to not only "feed the core" gamers, but also to "captivate the masses." The unveiling on MTV is a "signal of the strong change in the way we do business." Themes of optimism and community will be stressed in the campaign, said Moore. McCann Erickson, New York, handles.
Ourcolony.net provides further insight. The viral Xbox 2 site, currently counting down the minutes to the MTV event, states: "Colony isn't about alternate reality gaming, it is reality. It's about the reality of your world, your friends, your life. Colony isn't political, it's global."
Launch partners will be global in nature as Xbox tries to combat the perception that it's an American brand, said Moore. The console is expected to launch this holiday season. Microsoft spent $14 million on media in 4Q 2001 to launch Xbox, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.

This is an outrage!
Well, it gives me an excuse to watch MTV. I'll pop a tape in.
The official press release:
MTV debuts the next XBox.
If by outrage you mean genius, then yes. Especially in light of the "brilliant" plan by Sony to schedule their PS3 conference in Culver City three hours before Microsoft's conference, on May 16th.Quote:

And, to those who complain about the size, the XBOX is probably one of the most moved-around systems (per amount sold) with HALO link-up, and we managed, so STFU. I would understand if you lived in Japan, and the XBOX took up a quarter of your floorspace, but I don't know anyone who's had placement problems with the XBOX.
lol. Those crazy Japanese. They sleep in drawers! I saw it on Seinfeld.
I really dislike clunky controllers.
My favourite controllers have always been the sega saturn's 2nd controller and more recently the PS2 controller
I've always disliked the xbox, dreamcast and game cube controllers
Unless you talk to someone that does. The top of the system is round, which means zero stackability.Quote:

I didnt mean to say the cube pad was clunky, it'sone of the ones am not keen on. Which controller did you mean by S controller? There have been two quite diferent saturn controllers, the first kind of sucked, but the second smaller one is almost perfect
I was referring to the Xbox's "S" pad, not the Saturn pads. I rather enjoy the first Saturn pad, outside of the shitty triggers.
That console pic would look like the Unicron of all consoles if the ring went all around. It would devour other systems in order to continue to play your games!

I used to like the Duke because I have big hands, but after using the Type S for so long, trying to go back to the Duke hurts. It hurts bad. The Type S is my favorite controller of all time. Second is the Japanese/2nd gen Saturn pad.
Possibly they just feel clunky to me then, I've tried getting used to them but they just dont feel right. The PS2 pad really fits well :D
The PS2 pad has 4 shoulder buttons, which is good, but the worst D-Pad in the history of consoles. I'm not a fan of its ergonomics or analog triggers as well, but opinions are like assholes...
yea the d-pad definetly sucks
If I agree with you, does that mean we share an asshole?Quote:

That makes me feel weird inside.
It was me, I was just scratching our bung with a coat-hanger.
Technically, if you write something down on a peice of paper, roll it up and sit on it, I will receive the message. That's kinda cool I guess...
It's like Ass Messeng.. this is really going too far, I'm gonna go ahead and stop now.
I might aswell post on topic...
I get the feeling that MS is going to make the 360 a very sleek and slick looking piece of hardware. I highly doubt that whatever that thing is, it isnt the final deisng of the 360.
It looks like a tool box
Now GamesareFun is going gaga over this news and they reveal what supposedly are "new" pics...

Even for prototype pictures, that thing is really ugly. Here's to hoping that's not even CLOSE to the final product.
no they wont make fun of it this time because it was done by MS and not NintendoQuote:

The pad is interesting, dunno if I like a white XBox controller. But hey, I like my DC pads and this seems to prove J Allard and his team seemed to have then-orphaned DC fans in mind back in 2001 when making the first system's pad/button layout.
So we're calling it the 360 now? That's fucking lame.Quote:
