There's no way that can be an actual in-game screenshot. If so, I am with diffusion on the next Xbox as an instant purchase.
Like whoa.Quote:

Good shit. If that isn't a render or CG, this will be one of my definite first purchases. Hell, even if it doesn't look that good, it's still fucking PGR, and it will still be purchased.
The point is that it's one thing to have that level of detail on a nothing piece like that...it's completely another to render all the cars and scenery with that same level in real time.
At some point, will the level of detail of the enviroments even matter when you're outputting to 640x480 displays (HD or not)? I think we're starting to really run into limitations of the display devices people use.
And frankly, I could not give two shits about photorealistic graphics. Does this mean that budgets for games and the manhours required to develop them are going to balloon to 10x what they are now? Super; that just makes publishers even more risk-adverse, sticking only to 'safe' brands, sequals, and concepts. (Which are not safe, but that is neither here nor there). If that is the only thing this industry can offer now (I know it isn't... I hope it isn't, anyway) then we (as a body) are in some deep shit.
Now, if this game is as much of an improvement as PGR2 was over PGR1, then all this is irrevelant and I'm stuck with an Xbox Next on day 1. You can not tell that from a single obscure screenshot, though.

Eventually there'll be tools to do grass, and water and shit like that more easily to help reduce cost.
Does anyone other than me see that "XY" at the bottom right corner of the picture?
If not, I'm betting it's drugs.
I still find it funny that the crowd are still cardboard cutouts :chick:
Though if this is the 360 I don't even want to know what the PS3/Revolution will look like.
They probably won't be for long.Quote:

Kudos to Xbox Next.
The game will look like this, and people will still say "oh we don't need new systems, what we have is good enough, hyuk hyuk."
This post is the complete antithesis to the Star Wars Revenge of the Sith game for the DS.
Still more fun than the latest (or next) Gran Turismo. In fact, this still picture is providing me with more enjoyment than any GT installment has.Quote:

Grave, I believe that photo=more fun than GT news. MSR ruled, PGR ruled more, and PGR 2 rules the world. Somehow, this will surpass them all.
HURRAY!
The grill reflecting in the red paint was blowing my mind for second, until I realized the red paint was reflecting in the grill itself as well. My mind was then blown again.
I like looking closely at this picture. A bunch.
Metropolis = Superman
Gotham = Batman
Following the pattern, perhaps the next title will contain Coast City or Keystone City (Green Lantern and the Flash's hometowns, respectively).
Likely render:

PGR2 was my most played x-box game of all time, at least 1,000 hours on that game, so I would be tempted, but very hesitant to buy an xbox2 if PGR3 was a launch game.
I enjoy what little life I have left.
PC developers have been developing in High-definition for years now. And even have to take into account hundreds of different hardware when developing a game. Costs won't be too bad. People just like to blow stuff out of proportion.Quote:

That said, I've yet to play very far into PGR2, especially after losing the softmods. I'll probably pick it up for $10, as the Live community still seems pretty big.
if thats really truly what the car looks like in game then DAAAAAAMN. I can't notice any flaws at all. HEEEEELLLLLOOO next gen systems.Quote:

That's actually a real-life photo with filters applied. People were acting like it's from Unreal 3, but it's fake. Wouldn't be surprised if it does look that good though. ;)Quote:

no way in hell thats a game shot. you want shots, look at the link i posted in the 360 thread. looks like a photo with a very faint blur in PS to me. i mean why are there artifacts in the red sign? a rendered image wouldnt have that.
Let's see a new movie of PGR3 in action that looks like that and then...I'm going to go preorder.
I don't doubt for a second you are going to eat your words.Quote:

Here is another response to the thread epmode posted, from another person on the development team:
edit: And Dyne, if you would even have bothered to investigate that link you posted in the 360 thread, you would realize that those were vid caps taken from the E3 demo, which is the reason those pictures don't look nearly as good as the one that is posted above.Quote:

Interesting to say the least. That's the most realistic looking 'screenshot' I've ever seen (if it really is one) and this makes PGR3 even more of a sure purchase when I pick up my 360.
I mean seriously guys...holy fucking shit. :eep:
This is definitely a case of "waiting for footage before I believe anything."
We all know though that when we're playing the game, that level of detail on the buildings will not really matter considering we're going to be driving by them at 150mph. :D
Sadly, the official trailer looks nothing like those shots. It looks like...a slightly nicer PGR2.
I really want a reason to buy a 360 at launch, but almost nothing I've seen for it looks better than Chronicles of Riddick on the first Xbox.
I watched someone play the new Need for Speed at E3 and the tracks looked about on par with that.Quote:

If you look at the screenshot and the photo posted by epmode you can see differences that make it obvious that one is computer generated. One is the lack of spotlights above the roof with the "Eat Inn" sign.
I have no doubts that this is an in-game screenshot. Why would the Bizarre guys lie?
No way, my wife and I went to that Eat Inn restaurant 2 or 3 times last year (this is Bowery St in Chinatown).... wow.Quote:

I'm not saying that I 100% believe that is a screenshot from PGR3, but there's not one chance in hell that is a real life photo, even after Photoshopping.
If that IS from PGR3... mmmmmm. I said it before, and I'll say it again - the next generation of systems is when 3D gaming finally gets serious. Everything up to that point has just been practice.
That is simply beautiful. Video should show how good something that detailed looks in motion.
Promotional stuff is made way in advance, what you see at E3 in videos of actual footage is often months behind where the game currently is. They have to take the engine they have on hand and spend time to make a video out of it, edit it, rig it just right, and so on by which point the programmers that have been working on the game that whole time are well beyond the guys making something to show off.Quote:

That is definitely in game.
You can see the blurring from anti-alias filters and how artificially 3D everything is.
Still an awesome shot though.

they showed in-game models running at ultra high resolution on a PC monitor or something?
it looked better then that screen shot, but when the game was shown on the actual Ps2 with the resolution bumped down a lot, the game looked average
"expects the same with that screen shot"

oh my god.
That it the coolest traffic sign ever.
The best part is they posted the wireframes, so you can be pretty damn sure it's legit. I was reading an interview and apparently they'd only just cobbled the code together when they did the E3 demo, which explains why it doesn't look as good. I can't wait to see what this looks like in motion. Hopefully, splitscreen will have a much better draw distance than PGR & PGR2 did.
Splitscreen is for nits. Play on Live, or at least via system link.
I guess I am also a nit, because I am really curious as to how they top PGR2 in terms of gameplay mechanics and flow (and out-and-out frustration -- getting 100% in the PGR games is fun in a masochistic way).
Those screenshots do look purdy though. No idea if they are enough to get me to drop a wad of cash on the same old experience (but more!), but... yeah.
-Dippy
Those are some very nice textures on some very simple models.
Considering the fact that these are background graphics that will be ripping by at high speeds, the finished game should look awesome.
Any word if they fixed the online kudos junk? I was amazed when I saw the high Kudos scores for some people and did my damndest to try to match them. I was having a blast.
Then I watched their replays.
Then I quit playing.
Those are nice pics though.

I'm pretty sure that was the E3 video, but yeah, it's sexy.

yeah, that was just the E3 vid. Damn, you had me shoot yogurt, over a new PGR3 vid, all for nothing.

*yawn*.......until they fix the horribly BROKEN AI present in every racing game now i could care less. you can only polish a turd so much before you realize its still a turd. i sincerely hope these devs really put some thought into AI this gen regardless of the genre.
Huh? What do you want? The AI in PGR2 does a reasonable job of emulating how a videogame player would play the game (like a complete asshole), and there is very little rubberbanding (within bounds of what you would get from real players). The AI seems obscenely agressive until you play a few games on Live, where every race starts with a dogpile on turn one.Quote:

-Dippy
Well if your playing PGR for the single player mode, your playing it for the wrong reason and shouldn't be playing the game at all. PGR2 still has one of the most robust and well integrated online interface of any game this generation, second to Halo 2, and PGR3 will only improve on this.Quote:
