It's Rez the RTS, it's Black & White in Tron land, it's Rollercoaster Tycoon with polygons. I don't even know how to describe it. Go, download, gaze at the weird coolness.

I played this demo a week or 2 ago, and the game is actually really fun, and really different. I recommend it to any RTS fan.Quote:

I'm not much of an RTS fan so I'm probably not the best judge on the gameplay but it seems to play great. I'm a sucker for TRON-ish visuals so this appeals to me more than most games in the genre.
Played the demo a couple weeks ago and decided to stop about 10 minutes in, just because I didn't want to spoil anything else for when I inevitably pick up the full version, as it became a foregone conclusion very quickly. Shit like Darwinia makes me happy.
It's out for OSX too. Can't remember who did the port. Not bad at all. Cool factor 10.
I just checked out the demo of Introversion's other game on that site, Uplink. It's a computer hacker simulation. I didn't expect to like it but it's neat stuff.
Yeah, Uplink was a cool game, that's part of how I found this - I was browsing eb online and saw the cover, which was unusual. Then the description mentioned that the developer had made Uplink and my interest was peaked. Darwinia is just... cool.
I'm playing the full version right now and it's awesome. At the beginning it plays like a wacked-out RTS, but there's a lot more action to it once you get a few levels in. It's such a crazy mish-mash of different play styles (Cannon Fodder + Lemmings + Ground Control + Asteroids).
Really cool game. Don't sleep.
Is Darwinia out(or even coming at all) in North America? I can't find it listed on store websites.
No, it hasn't come out in NA, and I don't think there are any plans to release a boxed copy here. I imported it.

Just buy it on their website and download it...
I might try the new demo .. but the first demo they released was crap. Left a bad first impression.
This was released retail in the US in June 06 by Cinemaware Marquee. Got it at the circuit city b1g1f sale last week, the reg price is 20 bucks. It is the same as the steam version, but the retail version comes with a Poster and a darwinian keychain, and of course a physical CD.
The entire Tron world has always been appealing to me and this makes it that much cooler. The usage of the Tron Reco as the engineer is the icing on the cake.
Its a mix of a strategy game(warcraft/starcraft)/shooter (think 360 degree centipede)/sim/save the people (lemmings/3 dirty dwarves) and it really works.
Whether its fighting off hordes of respawning ant hills, destroying giant flying virus incubators, creating and researching better weaponry, or just guiding the little green darwinians to safety, Even after playing about 10 hours Im still finding new things to do and the gameplay is fresh at every turn.
The graphics are not mindblowing, the music is mellow but fitting, the angles of the terrain are sometimes a pain in the ass. But damn if this isnt some of the most unique gameplay ever. After getting the mechanics down, I am absolutely hooked.
If you are a fan of 80s arcade games, Tron, blizzard games, Rez, Civ games, or are looking for something suprisingly innovative, you owe it to yourself to check this out
This game was made for me...Quote:

But yea, I played the demo, this is a good game.
I find this odd since Rez has such a similar style.Quote:
