I REALLY doubt Rare is the one censoring themselves here, its their game they changed it from standard kiddy fare to smut on their own and took a risk releasing it on the N64. Its got to be Microsoft 100% censoring them.

And yes the filth adds a lot to the game. Its not the same game if they take it away. The same way graphic violence adds to a game, the silly smut adds to Conkers enjoyment.

Its no longer a remake at all.

Probably because that's a very broad definition of censorship. According to that, every one of us is guilty of censorship on probably a daily basis.

I think Joust is right--the only censorship that should be concerning is censorship imposed by a greater power, like the ESA or the government.

No it's not broad. It's actually very simple and clear-cut. There was an original version that sense been censored to meet the delicate sensibilities of the new publisher. That is censorship. Now, if you're trying to debate whether this was imposed censorship or self-censorship is another thing entirely.

All censorship must atleast be questioned if not avoided. To say that its only censorship when the 'big boys' do it is illogical. It doesn't matter who is doing the censoring, the intent is the same.

Besides, I don't think the real issue here is with the politics of censorship. The problem is that doing it seems entirely unnecessary in this instance. The game is already rated Mature, what is the point of bleeping words that were already in the previous version? It can't be to try and make it available to a younger audience, so really why do it? All it does is negatively impact certain parts of the game. It takes something away that wasn't a problem in the original version. That seems completely counter-productive to being an improved update.

I'd rather him not be censored and say far worse things than he said before, i've heard a squirell say bleeps before (in the N64 version). Now I want to hear him say what was under those bleeps, like I was intialy promised by Rare.

I'm upset that they would change the focus of it like that, probably the same way a fair amount of people were pissed that the Halo 2 singleplayer sucked

I'm sorry but a great single player game should not be ruined so you can turn the focus of it into multiplayer

Conker's Multipler on the N64 was average and ho hum, the whole point of the game was the singleplayer and this rude offensive little cutsey animal, now not only have they censored it, taken away aspects of the single player game, made the game easier, but they've also changed the focus of it

it's horseshit Only rare could take a game I loved and was majorly psyched for it's remake and make me totally not give 2 shits about it

and it's just like during the SNES days when Mortal Kombat II (or was it the first one) had the blood changed to green, did it change how the game was played? No, did it change your enjoyment of it just cause a color was changed? No, but people still freaked out about it for good reason

your changing a formula that worked and didn't need to be changed, fans of the game are going to be looking for the game the way it was but improved not made worse

That's about the time that Sega started whooping Nintendos ass. Everyone bought the genesis version over the grey sweat SNES edition. Then they had the better sports line up and sonic. The true glory days of Sega. But when II hit, the SNES version was damn near arcade perfect.
