Conker to be Censored on Xbox

I think this is pretty lame, IMHO, not only is it censored but they've taken out gameplay elements most noticeably when your swimming and you have to have the eel follow you through rings

I do find it ironic that a game that was on a Nintendo system is less censored than the adult oriented mature fest that is the Xbox

The... higher than average difficulty of the first game was one of the more enjoyable aspects of it (besides the swearing and the poo jokes) and not even THAT'S safe. Don't get me wrong, as a platformer mocking platformers it played very well and put up a fight, at times, but the whole "fuzzy animals cursing" aspect of Conker is why most people like it.

No wonder why so many companies make crap games then.

Censorship sucks and I don't like supporting it.

That said, who knows if this is censorship.

I thought Conker was a fun game to play, with constantly changing goals and play styles.

That's why I liked it.

The entire Mighty Poo sequence is ruined by this affront, and thats why I won't be supporting it with my money.

The concept of squirrels blowing each other to smitherines was one I loved. It's just a character, and a pretty unique one in a sea of generic cutesy types. It's nothing overly offensive, but it was fun to behold.

It needed more gore though.

This is an odd move. I wasn't interested in the game before because things that try to be shocking are usually really just annoying. But it is quite hilarious that Nintendo 64 had the game less censored than the Xbox.

I REALLY doubt Rare is the one censoring themselves here, its their game they changed it from standard kiddy fare to smut on their own and took a risk releasing it on the N64. Its got to be Microsoft 100% censoring them.

And yes the filth adds a lot to the game. Its not the same game if they take it away. The same way graphic violence adds to a game, the silly smut adds to Conkers enjoyment.

Its no longer a remake at all.

No it's not broad. It's actually very simple and clear-cut. There was an original version that sense been censored to meet the delicate sensibilities of the new publisher. That is censorship. All censorship must atleast be questioned if not avoided. To say that its only censorship when the 'big boys' do it is illogical. It doesn't matter who is doing the censoring, the intent is the same.

Besides, I don't think the real issue here is with the politics of censorship. The problem is that doing it seems entirely unnecessary in this instance. The game is already rated Mature, what is the point of bleeping words that were already in the previous version? It can't be to try and make it available to a younger audience, so really why do it? All it does is negatively impact certain parts of the game. It takes something away that wasn't a problem in the original version. That seems completely counter-productive to being an improved update.

Master is right though. The meat and potatoes this time around is the multiplayer. Thats why its taken so damn long to come out. The single player game has been done for some time I heard.

It's a remake of the N64 game, which did have the words uncensored. They only censored the F-bomb on the N64.

Yeah...but since this game is rated M, and the words aren't there and can be, and they are there in other games (including MS games), and swearing is an acceptable form of commuication in games now, I think it's a creative decision.

South Park is funny for different reasons and South Park pushes the edge with what is censored and what isnt it

Because the episode itself is about that one word. It's not "Conker's Bad Fur Day: Conker Says 'Shit'". Trey Parker and Matt Stone push some boundaries, but above all they want some words to be bleeped, because it makes the show funnier.

Ok, let's try this again. You can't not say "shit" if the gimmick of the ENTIRE EPISODE is about saying "shit" uncensored on television. Otherwise, every South Park is funnier because "shit" and "fuck" are pretty much always censored. Still with me?

Regardless of your stand on it, has Microsoft or RARE said anything as to why the changes were made to the dialogue? Like I said, there doesn't seem to be any real rhyme or reason to it. The game's still M-rated, still extremely violent and gory, why go to the trouble of bleeping something out that was fine the way it was?

This is like Kevin Smith going back and bleeping out all the swears from J&SBSB. The entire point of the humor is that it's incredibly juvenile and "offensive," and if this was a creative decision it was clearly made by someone who thinks the game's humor has something to fall back on. Really, it doesn't.

People don't think this is censorship because they're just beeping some swears (although the swears being unbeeped in a previous version make it bizarre anyway), people think it's censorship because it's happening in a game where you fight a gigantic mound of shit and fight a variety of dick-joke bosses. If Rare was really doing this in an attempt to be a bit more tasteful, they're going to need a lot more than beeps over "shit" to do it. They're probably also well aware of this as well, which is why I doubt the decision was entirely theirs.

It really isn't that big a deal. Certainly not deserving of an overblown arguement.

While I'm not a fan of Conker, I don't want to see a game being mandatorily censored one bit more than its original incarnation. Let Conker be uncut for those who want it- hell, even slap an AO rating on it. A censorship level option should have been put in the option menu- with various settings such as "Only F-word bleeped", "All Swears Bleeped", and "Live & Uncut".

This should be called "Conker: Kiddy Edition".

I don't care about Conker one bit. It's just annoying that most game makers seem to think that a game rated 17+ still can't have swears in it. There's just something insane about a game with graphic gore and "gosh darn" for cursing, yet that's where the industry still is.

It's like putting censor bars over the tits in Porky's. I mean, it's not high art and it's just censor bars, but what's the point? If you're going to make a sex comedy there's no point in censoring some mild nudity, and if you're going to make a gross-out offensive comedy there's no point in censoring "shit." It would be lame in movies, and it's lame here.

The swearing being taken out is kind of lame. I dunno how you think the beeps can be funnier. Watching an uuncencored version of Trailer Park Boys or Chappelles show is way better than when they edit Chappelle for TV or TPB in the states. Cencorship is just insulting to the listener if anything. They're telling you you can't handle something. If you want cencorship there should be an option.

I'm glad you promised to withhold petitions regarding that particular game formula, because I've just printed it out, scrawled my name on it and submitted it to management. Now here's my Exclusive Insider Source on the Conker team to explain the swearing situation.
"There have been a few *bleeping* censorships made with the new *bleeping* game. But between you and me, shhh… it’s a secret… if you [Dum de dum de dum - sorry, were you saying something? - Ed] multiplayer, you get to unlock the *bleeping* swearing! So, even more of a reason for you to play this *bleeping* game.

That's great and all but it shouldn't be an unlockable in the first place, it should just be there or at most be an option in the menu. Personally I don't care all that much but this is pretty retarded.

So you have to unlock the swearing via playing Multiplayer? Its good to know that you can at least gain access to it. Too bad I had zero interest in the Multiplayer. Oh well.

Hah. I found out today that the "Potty Mouth" unlockable only works for playable characters in multiplayer.
