How is everyone else paying for school these days.
My family so far has paid for 99% of mine.
BTW, what do you guys know about the FASFA and getting money? I need to find other sources for college money. Both my eldest sister and mother have gained expensive health problems since I start to college and I'd really like to be able to ease up on the families pocket book.
My college was about 2.5k a year and I paid by working at a local CD/DVD store called HMV.
It wasn't that hard since I lived nearby.
Better start filling out for FAFSA quick. Depending on income, thats how they determine how much you get for tuition from the government. This past semester (04-05) I got back only $626 for the WHOLE YEAR! My tuition is $22,000 for the year. The $626 barely covers my books. Then again, my parents made over $100,000 and I made $30,000.
I just renewed mine and I only made $19,000 this year but I didnt include my parents cuz I'm officially independent from them (you have to be born before a certain date. If not, you're considered under your parents - Jan 1, 1982). I just gave them a copy of my 04 federal tax return. I'll find out how much I'll be getting back within the next week or so.
I took a parent loan since my parents are paying for it..but this last year of school, I'm going to take student loan.
In your case of financial problems..best thing to do is student loan. The interest rate I believe is better and you can pay back as long as you want as the parent loan is you have 10 years to pay it back once the child is out of school.

My parents are too poor to pay for school for me. Everything I own right now and am living off of was bought with my own money or given to me by friends :cry:
I was in the Air Force for 5 years so the government is paying for my college now, prior to that I depleted most of what savings I had on school.
Student loans, yay! 60k+ in debt once I'm outta school! Yay!
$22,000 is a hell of a lot per year. In the UK, it costs around 12,000 pounds to put someone through university (3 years), which equates to around $18,000, + more for accomadation, but generally it's cheap so long as it's on campus. I'm lucky though; my parents have enough to pay for me when I go in a years time, so no probs for me :)
I strip. It pays the bills, but the hours are not the greatest.

Better check the FAFSA filing date for Mississippi, if you miss the deadline you may not get anything. California's was March 2nd but New Jersey's was like May 30th. The process is that you fill out the FAFSA, and a few weeks later your school will give you a financial aid offer. Generally it consists of a mix of grants (Federal Pell Grant if youre really poor, most states have a grant program, and universities have one as well) and loans and work study. Pick out what you want and you get the money. Its easy.
I couldn't get any financial aid because of circumstances I had no control over (essentially it doesn't matter if you are the third child in a family who has already spent their money sending your siblings to school) and my parents were too poor to pay for me. I'm still "paying" for paying for school. Pain in the debt ass. At least I have almost enough credits to graduate and not enough money to do so.

My parents have payed for my tuition and books so far (community college) but next year I'll be attending Rutgers University and a loan is looking very possible.
I got a minority scholorship. Snap.
College cost me a grand total of $128.05 for 3 semesters. Books included. Go me.

You are probably right. My dad makes about 50k, and even though I've never gotten a dime from him and supported myself since I was 15, I had to wait until I was 25. There's almost no way in hell you'll get a full grant, but you may qualify for something. Only one way to know.Quote:

Its color blind. Youre eligible for a Pell Grant if your parents make under $30,000 or $40,000, I believe. Even if youre not eligible for that, your state undoubtedly gives out grants.Quote:

As for the other problems, no, they dont care. They use a formula to determine how much your parents should contribute to your education (they also ask you for their savings, worth of investments, and so forth) and then fill in the gaps.

I got a somewhat free ride through college. Government payed for about 95% of tuition thanks to Veteran Affairs and my dad being retired military. As long as I didn't make more than $16,000 a year i was able to go to college for free.
i dont really see why college has to cost so fucking much, i mean the tuition price doesnt even include room and board or books, those cost alot in itself and the worst part is a book you paid $200 for when you try to sell it back at the end of the semester your lucky if you get $50, used books arent much cheaper either. Colleges are run by nothing but a bunch of greedy, money grubbing capitalist pigs.
