What a (great) time to be a gamer

It might be too bold of a statement at the moment, but I think gaming is at its best since the 16-bit era. It has the potential to be even better.

I wasn't expecting much in the early stages this new generation (after Sega stopped hardware production); it got off to a slow start, but there have been many pleasant surprises. This year's E3 shows a strong lineup for all four systems. A while ago I vowed that I wouldn't buy any of the three home consoles until they reach the hundred-dollar level, but now I feel pressure to buy at least one.

What are your thoughts?

it took a while and a lot of fudged attempts but it looks like everyone finally has a grasp on 3-d.

why would it be depressing ? your getting the best of both 2D and 3D?

seemed like a good E3 all around. I can remember not
anticipating(I'm not very excitable. . .) any games, and now there are two. thats a good thing.

The only system I see worth buying right now is a portable system. 3d games usually arent bad, but they usually arent good either. Same thing with 2d games, only on a lesser scale. There is the occcasional gem for a system, but thats not enough to warrant me buying a system. For me, buying a system is like approving of the games they are making for that particular system. I honestly could care less about what company makes the system or whatever. The DC will probably be the last system I actually enjoy if this continues.

What kind of games do you like? examples? the stuff on the Gba is pretty much fantastic......NIGHTS , shinobi , metroid , and most of all possibly the best castlevania ever ......it has the most talented team according to the interview in chronicles.

i think i feel quite the opposite. I don't see much i'm very interested in besides a few of Nintendos old stand-bys. Sequels are lame.

I know, thats what I was trying to say. Its just kind of miserable that the only system that I really want to buy is a portable. If they can do that good on a handheld, what the hell is stopping them from doing that on a consle? Anyway....my favorite games are fighters (MotW), Shmups (Radiant Silvergun, Blazing Star), and some RPGs (FF3, Xenogears). I am able to play almost anything with at least a slight amount of enjoyment.

I hear that being positive is a fun hobby that a lot of people are enjoying.

You'd probably like the ps2 scene.Kof2k1 , Metal slug 4 ,shikigami , psyvviar ,and xenosaga. Im not sure if the first two have been confirmed.

Exactly my thoughts.

I really cannot understand all the people depressed by the new generation of gaming. I think the future of gaming is looking damn good right now.

well.........its a great time to be a Nintendo fanboy/girl. thet racked up at E3 again this year, obviously.
I'm seeing a lot of revival stuff, and thats great. I'm kind of wondering about if anything new and good is hitting though...all the stuff I'm excited about it old skool revamped.
rar. I want something new, and different! in addition to old and kick ass!

is it just me or is this statement 100% oxymoronic? Nintendos old standby's are all sequels...yet sequels are lame. hmmmm....

It's only been great since the major systems dropped in price. But, I think that once the 3rd and 4th quarters get some steam behind them, it will be really great. Other wise, we are still in a period of stasis.

Xbox: $200
GameCube: $150
Turbo Duo: $200

This choice was easy. I bought the Duo. Actually, the day AFTER I ordered it, all the console companies officially announced their price drops.

I don't care, I love my Duo. I'd never trade it for any of the next-gen consoles.

What's so good on the Turbo Duo? The only thing that comes close (besides Bonk) is Dracula X, and that's only on the PC-Engine.

What great time to be nostalgic. Is it me or has there been a HUGE revival of the early 90's and 80's. First they bring back Transformers and GI Joe. Now we see the return of Ninja Gaiden and Shinobi. Then we see a new Panzer. (not necessarily in that order). A new Castlevania, a 2D Metroid, Phantasy Star... I could go on and on...

For those of you that were born past this era, here's your chance to find out what it's all about. I feel old knowing that Super Mario World has been out for.. what? 10 years? =)

Yeah I'm not sure where this jaded cynicism is coming from either. Honestly, for the past few months, I've been playing less and less games, but recent events as well as E3 has really sucked me back in. Despite being relegated to videos like most others, I'm excited as hell about what's coming this year. And quite frankly, I can't see anyone who calls themself an avid gamer NOT owning all three consoles, there's just too much good exclusive stuff for each one.

Well, I consider myself a avid gamer with a small income. I can't afford all three consoles at the moment. I plan on eventually owning them all, but as they say, money doesn't grow on trees.

But, anyway, I've found that I enjoy playing games more if I stay open to any type of game or genre. So far its working great.

People are living paradoxes, including me. Nintendo is about the only company i can stand sequels from, and mario is mario. I'd still like something new to go with it though. I'd say it's a little dissappointing that even after all this new technology the only titles i'm excited about are based on games almost 20 years old. Hopefully i am now clarified.
