Criterion's console FPS. PS2 shots. Really.
Those are boring screenshots.
Looks like Killzone.
Supposedly the game is really impressive to see in motion.
Nice graphics. FPS tend to suck on PS2, so it doesn't have much to live up to.
Yarg, this next generation is going to be filled with even more FPSs than the last generation.
Looks pretty good. Atleast it's not another PC port.
I like how everything's so dark that you can't make out the textures too well.
Hmm...
Maybe, but those screen shots make it look like ass. Whoever took them, is an idiot.Quote:

Criterion knows how to obscure inherent flaws. I'll imagine there a kind of soft focus/soft global lighting like in Battlefront going on as well as some other handy smoke and mirrors, but then... it could be just really good looking OR the small resolution of the shots.
I'd be worried how it controls. The dual shock is hostile to FPSs. The only one I've played that was properly responsive was the preview of Darkwatch. Even Killzone had some minor control issues.
You know, it's on the Xbox too. You guys can like it now.
Dual Shock's fine. The extra shoulder buttons alone make for better control schemes than Xbox, though the sticks themselves aren't as nice.Quote:

Though this is coming to the Xbox as well, which makes everything right in the world again.

Couldn't see much due to all the smoke so it's a little hard for me to judge.
All the attention F.E.A.R has been getting kinda made me forget about this game. This is a PS2 game right? Because if it is then it looks great.
What the fuck is he shooting out of that SMG? He hits the front of a building for two seconds and ten stories of windows blow out in a huge explosion.
The Xbox version of this is going to rock.
lol Best comment I've seen in a while.Quote:

I'm excited about this for a lot of reasons.
Mainly because of who is making it and how impressed I was after watching that trailer. Did go a little overboard with the explosions and such but I have no problem with the kickass being turned up to '11'.
Day one puchase for sure.
Why da game gotta be called "Black" yo? Why can't it be called "White"....
omg fo shizzle mah nizzle!
that shit is racist, dogg.
Because black is beautiful,ya heard!Quote:

The explanation I remember reading is that the guns are supposed to be the "stars" of the game, rather than any user avatar/main character. Gunmetal is black, hence the title.Quote:

Its about time more games bullets kick up dust and actually destroy shit. We better see far more of this in the next gen. Why didnt anyone ever improve and expand Red Factions GeoMod crap?
I know, I was just messin wit ya.Quote:

'Cos most developers are lazy and uninspired. This is awesome, though, and I expect no less from the Burnout guys.Quote:

Seems cool and all but everything around you blowing up like it got hit by a freakin' mini-nuke every ten seconds seems pretty damned annoying.
Bumpage ....

I played the first few levels and it just seemed too generic for me to care.

I guess the whole point of the game is to destroy everything but you CANT destroy everything. Its a bit limited like Red Faction in terms of the level destruction you can do.
It looks nice for a xbox game and I'm not sure how the ps2 version looks but I guess it should be identical.
I played the demo. The levels are destructive. If you pick up the AK and use the grenades by placing them near cars, phone booths, and concrete barriers. Overall the game is nice. Theres no storyline cause your thrown right in the middle of the game. And I keep dying so I guess its short. I keep hiding behind walls thinking my shield will regenerate(halo) ... Opps ... or I think once I get shot I'm dead(rainbow:BA).
considering its a brand new game, and they havnt released bc updates lately id say no.Quote:

I really don't care if it shows up for 360 or not. It's not good, at all.
That makes me really, really sad. Why was this game getting such hype early on? Just 'cause it's pretty with the explosions?Quote:

Eurogamer gave it an 8/10.
I dunno I think it looks pretty fab.
Im a FPS/action whore, though.
Ill buy it when the price drops.
wish it came out on the PC though.
I've seen the PAL version floating around. I really want to play this.
Don't count on that. The guys over at Criterion are very anti pc-gaming.Quote:

I totally misjudged this after one level, it's stil generic, and it's not the best looking game, but it was a lot of fun.
Well it looks like Black is just your thing, congraturations!Quote:

Its a fun game. Just wish my demo disk worked ... no it doesnt even read. I even tried the boiling water method.
I played this a bit (yes, really!). Stupid live action cutscenes, slow menus and the inability to use the Smartjoy FRAG (cuz the game's stick movement is too slow) create a bad impression but the bit I played was enjoyable. Nice shooting action, lots of weapons and medi-packs lying around, not too much waiting around and "stealthing" but I'm not sure if I'll play it through. Mission-based gameplay is something I don't really like and you have to play a fair bit before you can save.
Jesus you're elite.Quote:

I dunno I picked up the game and I think its sweet. The live action cutscenes make it sooo '80's action(which is what they wanted to achieve). I also agree the stick movement is a bit slow and theres noway of adjusting it. I got to the second stage where you have to cross the border and when you do ... the explosions become more frequent. And the worst part is ... the medi-packs become less frequent and enemies ... MORE so.
I didn't much like the second level. Third level is awesome, though. Fifth probably the best I've played yet (I just unlocked the last mission).
First level wasn't bad, second was blah, etc... but the minefield level was great. It started off with a little sneaking and very covered fire and eventually built into a huge firefight with two objectives in a row involving blowing everything up in a building. Really intense and it took forever, final timer was 54+ minutes. It's not difficult so long as you hang back and make your shots count (I'm playing on hard and body shots don't do shit unless you've got a PN90, everything has to be a headshot), but I'm still enjoying my time with it. Shame there's no real AI to speak of as it would make this game way better. Maybe next time.
In any case, I'd say this is a pass for most people. Solid and cool in some ways, but unless you've got a hardon for explosions and guns like I do there's nothing new to see here.
How many missions anyways?
I like the game but body shots are lame. It takes way too many to kill someone. I cant stand that. The bullets blow everything else to pieces but they cant rip through some body flesh?? Gay.
This really perturbed me.Quote:

When the fuck do I get my BMG with this stupid code on the pre-order card?
The ad on TV for this game is fucking horrible. Slow-motion of a room getting "shot up" by gunfire, but I can see every squib explode so there clearly isn't any shooting going on.
Lame.
Man, I had high hopes for this game.
I played through their level of The Rock and hot damn was that awesome! Toughest one yet to boot, some of the stuff you have to survive late in it is insane. What I found odd about it was that I had to totally reverse tactics at the end of the level. Instead of hanging back and taking shots when I could to slowly eliminate them it was far easier to just rush in and play Rambo because there was just so damn many of them. Almost 50 of that 149 kill count had to be in that last room judging from the swarm I dealt with.
I hope the last few levels are just as good.
The commercials suck ... but I like the game ... HARD AS STEEL.
Last level is the best.
Bloody awesome.
This game screams for a next gen sequel. Sure the story is gay but the way shit blows up and the dirt and what not that gets kicked up rules. This better be in more FPS games from now on. Only small bullet marks is lame! Even Goldeneye had chunks falling from walls when you shot them.
You rang?Quote:

My point was more than EA plans every single title to be a trilogy from the start. The ones that don't get there are the ones who don't sell well enough to be worth it.Quote:

Finally beat the second level and that Mine field level is hellacious!
ed: Mechadeus is right. The Minefield is hard as anything. You try and Rambo you die, Like me. Stay back and take your shots!
Buddy at work ripped a Nightwish CD to the Xbox and was playing in our demo room theater. It was awesome--the rapid double-bass of the metal music matched perfectly with the beat of the AK-47.
I had for awhile Janet Jackson Rhythem Nation ... Kinda made me chuckle when shes singing about teaching the children and peace ... and here I am blowing up a truck, shooting a guy in the heed, and shooting holes in walls.
I finished it last night. I had a good time with it. Last level sucked I thought, not sure why Mark liked it so much. The game just kinda ends abruptly too. Like Halo 2/Half-life 2 shitty. I didnt even know I was on the last level.
The only thing I think needs to be fixed for the next game is how many damn body shots it takes to kill someone. Other than that its good stuff. I didnt buy it either, which is odd since I'm such a FPS ho.
Half-Life 2 didnt end abruptly, though - the ending's content was unexpected, confusing and weird but I dont think you could have thought there was more game after that.
Pretty short, but I enjoyed it while it lasted.
I've only played 2 levels so far, but it's a fun game. Simple and straight foward action. Save system is a bit retarded and enemies do wear some rediculous armor, but with basically unlimited ammo, it's not a big issue. Seems like a good $30 game to me right now.

It says on the card a BFG, which the gun is, but not like a DOOM BFG. Anyway, by the time I figured out how to unlock it I'd already beaten the game.Quote:
