I love Halo 2 and all, but Yoshi is right. Popularity != quality. Just look at the first Matrix game.
Granted in this case, Halo 2 is a product with extremely high production values, and is easily the best console FPS out there (OMG I KNOW PC FPS'S FTW RAPE RAPE), popularity != quality.
Then what do you judge quality on?
Someone can say that a color is blue and be wrong, not becuase they don't fit into the majority, but becuase a color is attached to a wavelength and isn't really up for debate. A games quality has no mathematical value, there is no formula to determine what is good and what is bad, quality therefor is a matter of opinion.
So if quality=opinion then large positive opinion > small positive opinion and that means Halo 2 is a higher quality than almost any other game out there if only becase it's fanbase is larger than any other currently available game.

A game's popularity is based more along the lines of how well it appeals to and is liked by the general gaming public, whereas a game's quality is based more on how well it plays and/or how fun it is. The two are often times synonomous, but they aren't mutually exclusive. So while there may be a correlation between quality and popularity, there is not direct relationship.
You really don't see how this is also relative to the time it takes place in? If Pimp C was around during Johnny Chashes prime, he wouldn't have even got a record contract becuase his sound was unheard of.
Not to mention more Johnny Cash records are owned world wide than Pimp C and you know that to be true. Trying to show that quality!=opinion by posting CD sale charts for one week is like saying speed!=winning the 100 meter dash because of that one time the guy in first tripped and the slower guy won.
You're still wrong. Ashley Simpson sold more records than a lot of people that are better.
