That's what I said. There is a correlation between quality and popularity. But to say that there is a direct relationship is wrong because many examples show otherwise. Enter the Matrix and Superman 64 were extremely popular games, but I doubt you can say they were quality titles. Contrastly, Beyond Good & Evil wasn't popular at all, but was well received by critics and gamers.

This is all just coming from Brett's deep seeded sense of inadequacy that stems from the fact that TNL doesn't respect the game he's really good at or care that he's good at it. Period.

I think have a good revised theory on how to establish value:

% of people who played and ejoyed game A vs % of people who played and enjoyed game B.

This means that if Halo 2 sold 3,000,000 copies and 80% of the people who bought it thought it was an amazing game but BG&E sold 300,000 copies but 85% of the people who bought it thought it was an amazing game, then BG&E would have a higher value. Becuase of on average more of it's users believed it to be a quality game.

I'm going to be honest with you, I could care less what TNL thinks of me. When TNL's respect can help me anywhere other than TNL, then it might be something to care about. As of now, I get more use out of my Halo rank in the real world than I do TNL.

Nash, you do agree that we hit a compromise though, right?

We established that while popularity!=quality there is a correlation which we should respect and at the same time a games quality should be based on average opinion through it's userbase, not through the general population.

I was meaning more that when the kids at a tournament a few months back asked about my rankand I said 39 it freaked them out and gave me a mental edge and helped me win an easy 100 bucks. Where as if I told them I was popular on TNL they would have looked at me like the dog just spoke; though I still could have won the 100 bucks easily.
