I suppose, but the Wii will still be in a different category. The thing is, you're right. One or the other would probably have to fail, the wii or it's too-soon predecessor.
Still and all, if the Wii does decently and Nintendo rakes in profits from that and the DS they would be well positioned for the next gen.
I just don't know where else there is for Nintendo to go, since they are all about making money on the cheap with sequels and re-releases, and the Wii is the ultimate re-release system. The next system they'll have to either create an actual competitor or fade away into the handheld market.
