Playable Wii kiosks at locations beside Gamestop. Another reason to never enter one.
well no shit. I just got back from sitting through a district meeting. Nintendo and Sony were there with presentations. Toys R Us and Nintendo are pretty much in bed together. If you want a Wii, TRU is starting presells soon and according to Nintendo we are getting more than anyone. Too bad they didnt bring a Wii for us to try. Bastards. LOL @ the Sony presentation. They left me to wanting a PS3 even less! They had some new videos Ive never seen before though. Really unimpressive stuff overall. I was kinda hoping they would end up selling me on PS3. Lame.
Nintendo has almost sold me on Wii though.....
When are the kiosks going up in your store, Mog?
I have removed my Civil War Wii sig. I didn't think it was possible, but Nintendo persuaded me to not get the system at launch.
Good man. Get out with that garbage
Yeah, I got rid of mine too back when I first got it I was actually excited about the wii. Boy did that change in a big way, trying to replace it with a mass effect one.
I'm also pretty sure I'm not getting one. The demo kiosks need to blow my mind. Right now I'm really happy with whats coming out on 360.
All of the Gamestop managers around here seem to be sold. I'll give the kiosks a try.
Gamestop/EB in a few weeks:
Customer: "Do you have any PS3's for sale?"
GS: "Have you tried out the Wii? It's really cool! And if you want hi-def gaming we have Xbox 360s in stock with a wall of sick games ready to play on and offline. Both are cheaper than a PS3."
Customer: "Word?"
I'm not up on my SD card stuff. I did the Ebay search, any kind soul care to confirm that these are what I'm looking for in terms of the Wii memory thingy?
http://search.ebay.com/2gb-sd-card_W0QQssPageNameZWLRS
James
James: Yep, any standard SD card should work. Just make sure that if you pick up one of the Mini or Micro SD cards that it comes with an adapter to make it work in a standard SD slot.
I already picked up a 512 that was on sale at OfficeMax a few weeks ago. Newegg usually has pretty good pricing on them too.
Excellent, thanks. I'll get right on snagging one of these, because with a couple million devices using them hitting the market in slightly over a month, I expect the prices won't be staying in the current $30 range for a spacious 2gigs.
James
The remnants of the nintendo fanboy in me still forces me to check up on the wii. See if maybe something I actually want to play gets announced.
Really? Mine said hes actually NOT buying one now after seeing it at some meeting he was at. He said something that it either played like fucking shit or that the Nintendo reps playing it were clueless. He thought most of the game looked like garbage also and from the impression he got was that most of them controlled terrible.
But that goes against pretty much everything I've seen. But he is the only one I've physically talked to that seen it. Besides my boss, but he doesnt know shit about gaming.
lol
stick it to the big N
I think that post was better aimed at Joust, who's well on the way to taking the Sandy Vagina All-Time Champ award about the Wii. He's bizarrely obsessive about it, and I expect to hear he died shortly after the Wii comes out using the remote/nunchuck cord in an auto-erotic asphyxiation accident.
James
Wii's a piece of shit
You's a piece of shit
Joust, stop trolling.
The rest of you, back on topic.
ok :(
Let's talk about Red Steel and how no gameplay video has ever shown someone who can hit the broad side of a barn with the intuitive controller
ban pls? <3 joust
I'd agree that Wii sucks if I hadn't played with it and had a great time doing so. As it is, one crap game (Red Steel) isn't going to kill the console any more than State of Emergency killed Rockstar.
James
IBTN. It's not like the Wii's the first console to not have a AAA game at launch.
(Well actually it does) I think Red Steel is going to be like PDZ. A game hyped like hell becuase it was at launch, but completely forgotten about 6 months later.
Article up here: http://www.2old2play.com/News/2old2p...iew_of_the_Wii
Despite the problems he had, he said it was an absolute blast.
I believe it. I'm ready for it. The problems seem worth it. Wii60 for me.
I'll probably wind up with both versions of Zelda because I'm giving the Wii a shot first. Oops. Good thing I'm makin' money.
The sensor bar thing is kinda sad. I'll be reorganizing my game room, probably. And/or I will be using the other room for this system until I move out. Which is good because the other room is basically my parents' room, and I might be able to get them to play some wii sports. It seems like a blast. I can't wait.
Any time the phrase "the problems seem worth it" describe the feeelings toward a game console, I know I'm in trouble. First it was the PSP (the shitty controls seem worth it), now it's this. Everything I read in that article seems to be have some caveat to it.
Speaking of controls, I've been following this heat seeker game it may look like a ps2 game (it is If I recall correctly) but I do love some dog fighting. But I can't think of how using the wiimote will work at all for a jet game, thoughts?
except the PSP isn't that much fun. It is pretty though.
That article verifies all my fears about the Wii. Its going to be a hassle to fuck around setting up the controller every time and most of the games are going to be gimmicky crap. :(
LOL @ "two to three hours" for Zelda. Reminds me of Virtual Boy.
Wii sounds like shit. If you're willing to re-arrange your room for the sensor, limit yourself to games that are designed for the Wiimote only, and accept graphics far below the norm, you can have a good time. Games for everyone, indeed.
That sounds poopy =(
The article says about what I expected- It's new hardware during launch. Some brilliant games are offset by gimmicky crap, and getting used to the setup will take some work. Eh, whatever. It's something I'm willing to deal with, and I suspect that a world that supports DDR will support this too.
James
That's the shitty kitty. However, it takes me turning my tv stand (aka, used to be my dresser) 90 degrees. Everything else is beans ('kay, Elebits and Wii Sports), except the LOL, BUY THE CUBE ZELDA WITHOUT THE FISHING. ):Quote:
The environment will have a large role in your experience with the Wii. If you find it more of a hassle than it's worth, the console will quickly become a novelty item.
Also, PSP is awesome, everyone shut up, you're making it bad.
I'm almost sure that height of the bar and the distance from the TV affecting gameplay are all things that will be fixed during the calibration process -- which is never done during these demo events.
This is a system, and controller, that will have to be setup properly corresponding to the space you're going to play it in and personal preference.
Don't you think that with a demo that will be reported on for lots of people to see they would try their damndest not to look like complete idiots and have everything set up perfectly? I hate all these excuses. "OH NO THE PS3S AREN'T VENTILATED ENOUGH" or "OH NO THE WII ISN'T SET UP RIGHT"...horseshit.
I think it's all speculation until we've got real hands-on time with the units. I've heard everything on the sensor bar's optimal distance being from 4 - 10 feet. That's alot of leeway, and if it's a consumer product from Nintendo experience has shown that they build a lot of leeway into their hardware. This isn't excuses, this is speculation based on experience. It could be wrong, but I doubt it. Talk to me November 21 and I'll have final word on the subject.

This probably applies to about 3/5 of the entire Wii library for me, same as it was with the GC. On the other hand...Quote:

*EDIT:
WTF? I can't play Samba de Amigo in my room because of the lack of space, so where the hell am I supposed to put this? "Buy a new stand?" Fuck that noise.Quote:
If the sensor bar is placed to low, like on some people's home TV stands, aiming will become almost impossible. The stand that holds my plasma HDTV is already low profile so when watch TV the monitor is at eye level while I sit. If I was to place the sensor below my TV, in its current position, I would have to aim my wrist almost at my feet just to get a center view with the remote. On the other hand, if I was to place the bar on top of my TV I would be aiming at the ceiling just to hit something. Because the Wiimote is so sensitive, you really need to the bar as close to your arm level as possible for the best performance. For people like me, this may prove to be impossible without a new stand.
Get a bigger place, noob.
Seriously though, if you didn't have enough space to shake maracas I don't know how you figured you could play tennis. If you've got 4 feet between you and the TV you can still enjoy the sit-down games.
Shaking maracas isn't the problem. It's laying down the sensor so that it registers. ;)
I can still play other DC games though. If all Wii games require some delicate and special sensor localization, than I'll just have to wait until I have my new gameroom before I buy one.
Random question: Are the Wii game boxes standard DVD size or smaller like the HD-DVD and BluRay cases?
I think someone posted here that they're just standard DVD case size.
How the fuck could anyone not know this? This was one of the first things I ever knew about the Wii.Quote:

So I was browsing the list of Wii launch window titles and I came to a conclusion. There is not ONE game I want to buy on that whole list. What the hell! Usually system launches have that one title that I really want to see and end up buying the system for. Not the Wii. Plus I have this gut feeling the Wii is going to play like shit for most of the games. Sales -1. :(
Better late than never on realizing that.
Wii sports has "fun for fifteen minutes" written all over it.
You think so? I believe I'm going to be boxing with my buddies in a round-robin tournament for many hours.
Tennis looks like it has "fun for 15 minutes" written all over it. And I might be wrong about that.
Game looks for more cumbersome than anything close to fun, although I just flat out dislike sports games (aside from boxing and some golf) so maybe I'm biased. I do wish they had put in a decent game as a pack in and not something that looks like freeware regardless of the genre.
Guess what guys! I will be getting Wii on launch, and i'm very much looking forward to it. I look forward to playing Wii Sports with my brother and dad, maybe even my mom when i visit them for Thanksgiving.
There are several games i will be getting with it as well, like the Zelda and the Metal Slug and the Trauma Center. In December i will be getting Pangya Golf and the Elebits! That beats Luigi's Mantion, Smash Bros., and Pikmin already. It also beats the entire first year of Xbox 360 titles! I didn't need to mention it, but i did! I don't even care since i fully plan on getting a 360 one day anyway, but i thought i'd mention it! I don't know why!
Hell, if Gamestop has enough on launch day, i will by an extra Wii for my brother. Potential +1 sale. I want to play Smash Bros. with him next year.
Although i have little reason to do so besides that this is a forum and i have to state my opinion loudly and proudly, i will mention that Xbox 360 still does not appeal to me more than Wii. Also, i will say that you can piss off if you want to force your views on that down my throat. Xbox 360 in 2007.
Hay Finch, you are wrong. Nothing on Wii beats Pikmin.
Who was trying to do that?Quote:

Everyone. See? It says originally posted by everyone. Especially Joust, but Joust is Joust and he can say things like that and i don't mind for the first 20 posts. Shut up.Quote:

Finch, your fucking nuts! :D
I agree 100% with your opinion on the Wii. I am way more excited for the games coming out on the Wii than any other system. Dont get me wrong, "Gears of War" looks like it will be awesome...but all these futuristic FPS and "realistic looking" action games bore me to tears. Out of the games announced for the Wii so far, I am looking forward to the following Wii games:
Super Monkey Ball - I'm just hoping its a return to form for the series.
Zelda - Only the most jaded gamers (in other words, everyone here) aren't excited about this
Red Steel - UBISOFT, swords and guns = quality fun
Trauma Center - The DS game is amazing...maybe I'll be able to beat the Wii version
Rayman - Rayman is awesome...I don't care if its mini-games...at least it doesn't look like generic, futuristic, sci-fi, FPS garbage
Excite Truck - It sounds and looks cheesy but I have faith that the BIG N will make it fun
METAL SLUG - DUH, this is a must own
Metroid Prime 3 - Metroid Prime was the best game of this gen, so this is highly anticipated
Mario Galaxy - IN hopes it will be better than Mario Sunshine
Wii Sports - Screw the haters....this looks like a blast
Super Smash Bros. - This will be fun to play with friends.
AND I AM 100% sure there are at least 5 more Wii games I want, but I don't have time to look at a release list because I am subbing a class and the kids are giving me the "evil eye" for being on a computer. The bottom line though, is the games I listed are more than I own for the 360 after a year, and the Wii is going to rock!!!!!!!
Finch totally fucking cracked. I hope the hospital has internet access so he can keep posting while not banging his head on his padded walls.
But you just said realistic FPS bore you to tears.Quote:
Red Steel - UBISOFT, swords and guns = quality fun
This also falls into the very catagory you were just dissing.Quote:
Metroid Prime 3 - Metroid Prime was the best game of this gen, so this is highly anticipated
Or people who never gave a shit about zelda in the first place.Quote:
Zelda - Only the most jaded gamers (in other words, everyone here) aren't excited about this
A non-crazy Finch is not a Finch worth having.
What, you have them on study break or something? Either way, there's something about ignoring a classroom of kids to post on TNL that's funny as hell. :lol:Quote:
I am subbing a class and the kids are giving me the "evil eye" for being on a computer.
James
Red Steel seems interesting to me because its trying something slightly different. I'm just sick of every FPS game being abous either World War II or space marines...and looking exactly like a generic version of Halo and Doom 3. At least this game looks like it has something to do with ninja's and a combination of swords and gunplay. I'm hoping that the wii remote adds some innovation in the control department as well.
As far as Metroid goes, I don't even include it in the FPS category. I can see how this would be argued, but I have always considered Metroid Prime to be an Adventure game set in the First Person Perspective. Plus Metroid is a completely unique franchise that totally demolishes other generic sci-fi FPS games.
And, I guess I have to admit that there are people out there who never cared about the Zelda franchise. Although, I just never understood that there can be people out there that do not like Zelda. I always thought Zelda went hand in hand with Mario, we all probably grew up playing Mario and Zelda on the NES, and when I was younger...saying you don't like Mario or Zelda was almost like saying you didn't like video games.
Actually, they were watching "The Count of Monte Cristo". For some reason the kids really dig this movie and they were glued to the TV like its the best thing ever....They're watching the new version with Guy Pearce though, so I was sure to give my rant about how the ending of the movie sucks...and about how "V for Vendetta" would have been a better film if it didn't rely on The Count of Monte Cristo to back up its themes :)
And I also find it comical that I am posting on TNL right now. I just figured its either this, or sit here at the desk for six hours and watch the clock. Its ok right now though, because its currently lunch time :)
Then how about you look forward to some great FPS's like Bioshock, The Darkness, Team Fortress 2, and Portal as opposed to a game with uninspired art style and unproven controls like Red Steel.
Well you better start, because the only good control scheme in Metroid Prime 3 is Expert mode, which is percisely how an FPS would play with the Wiimote.
I'm not really into the Team Fortress type of games, and I am not sure what Bioshock, The Darkness, and Portal are. I'll look them up right now and see if they're any good. Thanks for the FPS reccomendations though. Maybe I am just sick of the genre because I am playing all the wrong games...
Guys so what if there are people looking forward to Wii games LEAVE THEM BE.
Super Monkey Ball - Will control like crap when the levels require precision.
Zelda - got old years ago
Red Steel - UBISOFT(s) B-grade studio, control look horrid
Trauma Center - could be good
Rayman - Sci-fi > Rayman mini-games
Excite Truck - Looks like shit
METAL SLUG - DUH, this is a must own if you haven't played them all to death, also the series has gone downhill since 3
Metroid Prime 3 - will probably be worse than the 2nd which was worse than the first
Mario Galaxy - will be worse than Sunshine which was worse than 64 which wasn't as good as YI
Wii Sports - Yoshi is right
Super Smash Bros. - I'd rather pay 15 dollars tops for Small Arms on XBLA
Well, I guess I am just being overly optimistic about the launch of the Wii. I am really hoping that most of your predictions for these games are going to be incorrect because I really want to play another good Mario, Zelda, and Monkey Ball title. I really agree that the last couple games in each of these series have sucked. Also, the only reason that Metal SLug is a "duh" no brainer for me is the fact that I have never played through an entire Metal Slug game. I have played bits and pieces of them in the arcades, and I think its exciting to get a chance to play them some more.
Hell, the truth may be that I am still just a Nintendo fanboy at heart, since the first non-Nintendo system I owned was a Dreamcast. However, I still think the Wii's launch looks ten times better than the N64, Gamecube, PS3 and Xbox 360 launches.
I'm with you on this. If I pick up a Wii at launch, which is very possible, I'm picking up Zelda and Monkey Ball. Monkey Ball looks fantastic, and from everything I've seen it has gone back to it's roots in terms of level design. Plus 50 different mini games that each use the controller differently is a huge plus for the game.
Overall though you definitely are being overly optimistic about the launch, especially since both Mario and Metroid Prime (which if it's anything like the previous 2, I won't finish) are slated for 2007, along with Smash Bros. Rayman mini game based crap can suck it, I don't care if the art style is fantastic. And from what I've seen of the game, the mini games don't look nearly as fun as what's featured in Monkey Ball, and that's not even the main part of the game in Monkey Ball like it is in Rayman. Trauma Center looks to be solid, and I'll definitely try it out since I never played it on DS. And Excitetruck will either be really fucking fun, or an awful uninspired arcade racer, and I can't seem to figure out which one yet from the pretty limited amount gameplay shown to the public so far.
But to dismiss games such as Mass Effect (which isn't even an FPS), Gears of War, and other "space marine" shooters for a game like Red Steel or Metroid Prime 3 is idiotic since all the "space marine" shooters slated for release in the next 6 months look fan-fucking-tastic. +Red Steel is going to be utter crap, especially the sword parts of the game which look fucking awful.
Trauma center looks solid but I'm not spending 50 or 60$ on a game I spent 30$ the first time. I know they will pretty it up and all but I really don't care budget buy for those who already played the first IMO. Mario galaxy looks great from what I've seen, of course I actually really liked sunshine as well, thought all the bitching was unwarranted. Project hammer also looks really good, but that's it for right now, hopefeully heatseeker turns out good as well.
I don't have a lot of faith in many developers to make shit work as well on the Wii that say Nintendo will with Mario Galaxy.
I think I'll look into some of these FPS games you are listing, because some of them could turn out to be interesting. Its just that the FPS titles I like seem to be very few and far between. For example, I didn't really care for Halo but I loved Half-Life 2, Break Down, and Doom 3. After Doom 3 though, it seemed like a lot of the games were just generic FPS using the Doom 3 engine. I think what turned me off the most from the genre recently was Quake 4. I picked that game up shortly after I got a 360 and it was insulting how much it looked like a crappier version of Doom 3. Moreover, I played "Prey" on the 360 and it seemed stuck in the Doom 3 style environments as well. So, I think I would just like to see developers mix up the level environments in some of these FPS games.
Only game I'm excited to play is Wii Sports.
Red Steel sounds like it would be cool, but all the impressions of it so far say it sucks. Sounds like a rental.
I'm with Joust on Zelda - I stopped playing Zelda on the fire dungeon of OoT.
Excite Truck looks fun, but looks like a 1 hour game like Crusin' USA was on the N64.
Smash Bros. will be a day one for me if it's online, but that won't be for a long ass time.
Im excited for the Wii
probably just getting zelda for now if I had the spare cash I'd probably also pick up Red Steel and Metal Slug Wii
Wii day one for me. Money Ball, Zelda and Wii Sports all the way.
Any doubt I had about the controls not being awesome were wiped away last Sunday when I played Wario Ware and Wii Play on there. The Wii controller is awesome. I wish I could have given Zelda a go, but the line for it was incredibly long.
Zelda, Trauma Center, and Elebits. Possibly Rayman too, if I can squeeze out some extra cash. This is not going to be cheap.
Or maybe a little cheaper than I was thinking. Elebits is December 13th, so I'll probably toss that money towards either a classic controller or an extra remote/nunchuk combo. Damn, new consoles are money pits!
James
I'm worried about Rayman. It just doesn't look fun to me, although everyone who's played it says it's great. I guess i could get 90% back by selling it on Ebay if i don't like it.
I do, too! They influenced me into even wanting this!
Maybe I'll give it a shot. Someone has to tell me what the fuck Elebits is, though. Konami's site is shit for game descriptions.
from what i gathered from the thread, its like a cross between half life 2's gravity gun and katamari damashi, you use the wiimote to pick stuff up, elebits fall out and they increase the power of your wiimote to affect bigger/more complex things.
Hmmm... so it's Ka-ta-ma-ri Gra-va-teeeee?
