Wii at launch for me with a few games.

Zelda is a must and I'm pretty sure I'll check out Red Steel.

The third is a toss-up between Trauma Center (I beat the DS version so this better offer a lot of added content), Rayman (love the series but the mini-games = meh) and Monkey Ball (the Wii control looks silky smooth and precise in vids).

Elebits is a big wtf for me. After watching vids I have no idea if it will be worth it.

I'll score Slug Anthology too, if only to play 6, but I want to focus on games that use the Wii controller at launch.

I'm still so skeptical on Metal Slug. As much as I'd love to play those games again (and 6 for the first time), SNK fucks these things up without a second thought. Just look at Slug 3 on the Xbox!

I'll probably do Metal Slug on PS2. It's a great collection but I can't think of a single reason it needs to be on Wii. Maybe if it can use the classic controller and runs smoother I'll change my mind.

Yeah that was a pain in the ass, you really shouldn't need to one credit it. But hey it's better than unlimited credits, that just ruins the game.

It's the Strider 2 syndrome, you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. Critics complain a game is too hard when they can't beat it on their first play through and complain the game is too easy when they're allowed to continue hundreds of times to beat it in one night.

If they could maybe make a halfway continue point in stage 5 of MS3 then it'd be pretty much perfect. As it is it's a pain in the ass.

Gradius V did it nice, increase your number of lives and continues as bonuses for hours completed. Even the suckiest gamer will do it eventually.

If you're not sure, go back and check one of my more recent haul posts. That will answer your question.

But to go back, I'll probably get Zelda at launch, and pick and choose more titles over time. Have the family get me two or three more for Christmas.

Once I get the Wii, I don't think I'll have much use for the cube component cables anymore, and I was thinking of selling them anyway to offset the cost of the Wii. Although I may keep it, depending on how desperate I am for money around the 19th.

Yup, the older gamecubes have a seperate digital video connector that the component cables plug into, they stopped putting them on the systems when the price of the cube went to $99. That's the main reason why Nintendo changed the port on the Wii, I think. The old digital port couldn't output audio, and I'm sure Nintendo didn't want to put two different ports on the Wii.

Nintendo has a history of dropping the higher quality ports when they redesign the system. The NES2 couldn't use composite, the smaller SNES couldn't use S-Video, and now the newer Cubes can't use component. Way to save a dollar.

that is correct, one of the reasons being that the old Nintendo slot if I remember the pin out correctly didnt really have room left on it to fit enough lines for component out. Plus that seperate out was digital only, really more for the D-Sub connectors that are on like every japanese tv (bassicaly a VGA signal with a different connector is the easiest way to describe it)

Plus with the old Gamecube component wires, they used a special Digital to Analoug Converter or DAC that was actually in the wires where it connected to the Cube and was proprietairy and expensive as hell, which is why Nintendo was the only one who made a component cable for the cube and why they were only sold online or over the phone through nintendo. Plus like GohanX said they also didn't have audio out, you had to plug in a regular old style connector to the analog port to get audio out, the digital connector on the cube was only for video.

With the wii that's all changed Nintendo has created a new Audio Video connector that will Support Composite all the way up to Component and D-Sub on one connector and hopefully they'res some empty pins so that with their next Console they can add HDMI.

This is true, which is why it was no surprise when the Cube dropped to 100 that they cut that from it, they just have a history of cutting out the most expensive AV to save some money on the hardware. I think it's retard as I'm sure alot of other people do as well, but that seems to be their MO.

This time around with the Wii though they are using a standard connector and no crazy proprietairy DACs. Perhaps itll be like the WiFi adaptor and the GBA link cable where both were intially just sold on Nintendo.com for the first month or two of their existence. Either way though there isn't much to fear since again they're not using some crazy expensive DAC so other companies are making Component cables for the Wii, Madcatz has some on the way through EB/Gamestop price at 60 bucks (which is fucking insane and a huge major rip off) I've seen on a few other websites Pelican will have a pair out just before launch for less than 20 bucks I believe (which fits in with real cable price and not most stores were going to jack up the price of cables by 600%). I'm packing to leave for montreal in a couple hours for the weekend so if people want links to the pelican cables I can hook you up when I get back cause I didnt bookmark them and need to look through my history to find them.

PBMax: I just got a Pelican System Selector Pro off ebay, the original models go for about $40 these days since the 2.0 is out now. It has 7 component/svideo/composite inputs and 3 digital audio inputs. Supposed to be about the best thing out without spending ridiculous money.

From what I've read there may be as many as 4 million worldwide by the end of the year. Don't know how those will be distributed between the regions.

Numbers are better than names. With an ID number, you can still have a name, and you can have the name you want instead of "shidoshi69" or whatever other crap you have to use become somebody else took your name.

ICQ knew ten years ago that a unique ID number was better than a unique name, and it's sad that companies still don't get that.

It was the best racer of all time, but Acclaim USA never released it.
IT was fully translated and everything! Thankfully, some ROM dumper bought the ISO on ebay and released it onto the internet. I'm surprised you've never played it.

I have yet to see a Red Steel video where the guy controlling it was not fighting the controls (or any part of the game with a lot of action). Seriously. I've owned pretty much every console under the sun. This is looking craptastic. And the only thing I hear is "Oh this is Nintendo, they will make it work". Oh yeah? Like they're making a next-gen console entry work? Hiding behind profits because they're too scared to compete? I mean, please.

your right. it was kinda always there, but lately the series seemed to turn from "great racer with nice looking crashes" to "CRASH CRASH CRASH, rack up points, look at the explosion!"

To me crashing was a thing you tried to avoid doing in every racing game. That may just be me though since I have noticed lately I drive carefully in games like GTA just to not fuck up my car.

Actually, Red Steel is Ubisoft. And on the Nintendo front, I'm personally not going on speculation but rather experience. The only really bad game of the ones I got to play (Mario, Wii Tennis, Wii Plane, Wario, Excite Truck, Elebits, and...) was Necronesia. The rest ranged from must-haves to pretty entertaining.

Just because the next generation has traditionally been about prettier graphics doesn't mean that's what it has to be about. Look at the PS1, where the visuals on the 3D games were clearly inferior to the quality of 2D on SNES. Sony took a step back to leap forward. Change has been good before and it's going to be good again, and even if Wii fails miserably it's going to be one of the most interesting experiments gaming has seen in years. Why you're so determined to hate it is beyond me. Lighten up and have some fun, games are about playing so stop taking them so seriously.

Yup, then they played it, and realized that it was terrible. I remember Game Players dedicating page after page of hype to that, even proclaiming it as the VF-KILLER! on the cover one time. It was one of those games that looks great in screens, but falls apart terribly in motion.

The system has 512mb of built in flash memory that will be used for storage of VC games and saves etc.

You can also expand it with a standard SD card.

And well, there's useful information scattered about in there too, but useful information is boring after it's used up.

And rly, Red Steel and Excite Truck look like the bee's butt. Maybe they'll be fun and cult classics or something, but if they're the only reason you'd consider the system, don't bother. I'm surprised no one's brought up the fact that Zelda wasn't even originally planned for the Wii in the launch defense. It's hard to justify getting the system unless you just really want it and jeez mahoney, i just really want it.
Elebits and Super Swing/Pangya Golf are the first must have system exclusive non-remakes for myself, and those are also just silly games that i don't think would appeal to most people.

well theres 20plus pages in this thread, I'm sure someone has brought that up. But really, most of the games do look like ass. Zelda looks great though.

I'll be honest, I'm still a little miffed that the graphical capabilities are essential that of an xbox and not much more. Now I'm not the biggest graphics whore but it still kinda irks the shit out of me.

My biggest question is, where is Nintendo going to go with ints online capabilities? If I remember correctly, Nintendo thinks online multiplayer gaming isn't one of their top priorities. For this reason, the Wii probably won't be the first system I buy.

xbox360 with halo 3 and gears of war is looking pretty good to me right now.

edit: fuck, didn't know halo 3 is still more than a year away. fuck.
