This is pretty fucking funny. I doubt it deserves its own thread, though.
You're god damn wrong. It's not funny. And it already has its own stupid thread.
I've been noticing on IGN that alot of the games they preview for the upcoming stuff come with the tag:
"While the Wii version won't be as graphically rich as the PS3/360 versions"
I let out a big fuck you Nintendo for not giving the system more power to compete with the others. It'll really have to prove it's mettle with it's own games and whatever innovative tricks it has up it's sleeve because otherwise the system just doesn't sound as enticing and so far. The games I've seen barring the usual Mario or Metroid don't look all that convincing for me to get the system just yet.
It also depends on whenever I get to sample a kiosk to get a feel for the thing so I'll be waiting on the sidelines for a bit.
Get over it. You buy a Wii because you want Nintendo titles, wacky crap that is not coming to he other systems, or both; not because you expect it to be as graphically impressive as the other machines on the market. This is no different from the DS and the PSP. You don't buy a DS because you're looking to be impressed by how shiny the water looks -- you buy one because you want to have a good time.
I buy nintendo because of solid play and control. I'd buy a game for nintendo before I bought it for any other system. Wavebird ftw.
Does this hold true this new generation, though? Wireless controllers are now the standard and the Nintendo machine is no longer one of the stronger machines out. I'm sorry, but unless there is something really special about the Wii version of a game I'll be getting it on 360 or my eventual PS3 instead.
I'm all for "teh fun" but if even Nintendo's own titles disappoint as much as last generation then it might as well have some extra power under there to pull off it's other 3rd party exclusive stuff. While GC had the small disc limitations at least it could pull off graphics better than a PS2 could with the RE titles, MGS:TS, Metroid Prime, and Zelda in particular.
I'm sure nobody would be against better graphics capability.Quote:

WTF is this? It looks like complete shit and it doesn't even do progressive scan. A goofy steering wheel and N64 quality games are not going to make me drop any where near $200 for that shit.
Looks like it's supposed to be cel shaded or something,
When excatly did Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes, Metroid Prime and Zelda appear on the PS2 to be compared to how they were on the GC? Oh, wait, they never were. Should I quote myself about "buying Nintendo to play Nintendo made content?"
I'm sure no one would be, but the case of the matter is that the DS doesn't display as nice of graphics as the PSP yet it seems that most people don't complain because their enjoying what they are playing on it.
On top of all of this, who here is planning on only owning a Wii? I'm sure it's going to be fantastic, but I am still interested in 360, all the crap on PS2 I want to play but haven't, and curious about the PS3. I don't think I'm alone in that.
pc is for graphics imo.
That kind of goes without saying, but when the game either doesn't come out for the PC or you don't have a system that is going to run it properily if it does then the PC is not really a choice.
Hell, in some cases I think the console version may even be the best no matter the situtation. Look at Prince of Persia - Was any version of this as good as the Xbox build? None of them seem to be.
Geen is on a roll!
I think Nintendo didn't know how much the PS3 was going to sell for. I think they expected $400 PS3 and $300 Xbox 360 premium this fall, and they were going to release the system for dirt cheap. They couldn't make it too much more powerful, with the extra goodies like wifi, flash and more RAM, for a low price. Still, you'd think they could have done more.
Resident Evil 4 is a good example of what I'm trying to express as a reason to buy a multiplatform game on a weaker machine.
Personally, I still have not played RE4 but it's been on my "list of games to play" for over a year now. Now, there are two versions out - the GC version, which is absolutely beautiful, and the PS2 version, which, depending on who you ask, looks much worse or very similar (Either way, never as good) to the GC version but has more content then the GC version.
Which version am I going to take in the end? Probably the PS2 version. I'd rather play something that looks "almost as good" and have more crap to do in it then to play a pretty version of the same game.
Would it be nice to have the best of both worlds? You bet. Am I going to let pretty graphics derail me from having a better game play experience somewhere else? No.
I can get the GC version of RE4 for 15 bucks and play it with my Wavebird. Price more often than not dictates my choice.
Well, I dont have a GameCube and as such have no basis for comparison, but I played through the PS2 version. It's still beautiful and the same awesome game. Of course if you look at those comparison screenshots online the PS2 version comes out way behind but how often are you going to be comparing it like that?
If I had a GC I wouldve picked up the GC version (cause of price), but the PS2 version is an awesome AAA game. The only people that say it looks like dog shit or whatever are stupid Nintendo fanboys.
in my experience i played the ps2 version first. it doesnt take a fanboy to notice the overabundance of not just borwn, but smeared brown. i had it hooked up thru component and it honestly was an eyesore. it just seemed so damned brown and blurry.....well not blurry, more like smudged. and i didnt even bother comparing poly/model counts. this is just the overall look.
the only people that say the ps2 version doesn't look worse are the ones that hate nintendo and need a reason not to pick up a GC to play it the way it was meant to look.
I have the GC version and played it first. It looks worse but not much on PS2. It's very brown and gray on the Cube too, cause those are the predominant colors.
I'm comparing the graphical output of the GC (which were generally nicer than the PS2 graphics) because that's the added benefit of having the system do that sort of stuff with the original content. With the 360 and the PS3's graphical power putting out some extremely nice stuff, I was hoping that the Wii could at least try to match that so that the Nintendo games and whatever exclusives they come out with look much better but games like Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Galaxy don't look like huge improvements over their GC predecessors.
It also depends on how fun the games are with all the new stuff added like the new controller and various play elements but after a while I didn't enjoy Zelda, Mario Kart and Mario as much as I did on the 64 so if the graphics aren't going to be on par with the other systems, the games better compensate for the loss of that extra gloss with great gameplay.
Alot of the good and fun games are graphically simple and I really enjoy those on the DS like Castlevania, Advance Wars DS, and Meteos but at the same time I wished that they looked better than the standard GBA style stuff so extra power to play with would enhance the games and let Nintendo (or other developers) a better range of graphics to play with.Quote:

The DS is a handheld system though.

seeing as how PS3/X360 all HD. Nintendo better fucking make the effort of making all games in progressive scan. Also i hope the component cables aren't a bitch to find.....better yet, i hope i can use my GC component cables on the Wii.
Nothing official's been said about it, but every game previewed so far has had progressive scan capabilities. Doesn't mean they all will, but my guess is that it will be a first party standard, third party option.
The fact that there are third party component cables listed for launch tells me that the system will ship with composite. Hopefully a first party cable option will be available.
We all know the Wii is for white trash w/o HD and for little kids.
I think that's a poor use of the Wii's power. I mean the Wii isn't going to be 360 or PS3, but all the games should look better than GC at the very least, which that screenshot doesn't. I'l like to redirect your attention to Mario Galaxy which looks both fun and pretty:
That whole Mario vid right there is awesome.
I have more fun playing games on nintendo systems than any other. Hands down.
I have to admit, the effects on that Mario Galaxy look crazy good (metal surfaces, light and dark highlights and lighting) so the developers will hopefully use that aspect of the system up.
Graphically, Mario Galaxy doesn't look much better than Super Mario Sunshine.
I looks much better aurally though.
LOL!!
and I'm definately behind the Wii...but I dunno. Mario looks 'pretty' fun but true, those graphics don't look much better than Mario Sunshine, which I wasn't terribly impressed with. No one was cuz when we got early screens they kept screaming "early build!", but no one said a thing when it came out and looked exactly the same. But what do I know, at least it'll only cost me 200 when a killer app hits (if it isn't Zelda, Mario, Metroid, or whatever), and 360 and PS3 shit isn't really impressing me graphically either, and 600 for a PS3? LOL
Sony can keep blue ray for another 5 years or until I'll actually WANT to afford it...at a lower price.
i hope Nintendo releases the white Wii on launch.
Arguing about the graphics capabilities of a Nintendo system is stupid. It didn't apply to the N64, the GC, the DS, and now the Wii. Nintendo does whatever the hell it wants, and as long as it still make great games, I'll buy its consoles.
That's probably the only color they'll release. In the states, at least.
But back in 2001 when the system came out, Progressive Scan was nowhere near as common as it is now, so I'm sure they'll make it sandard, esp. since HD is standard for the other 2 systems.
Yeah, except that N64 was arguably a shitty system and the GameCube was still more powerfull graphically than the PS2. Your point still stands though that if you care about Nintendo made games that it's a system you will still get and play.
They'll release both, but the black Wii is supposed to be a lot bigger.
Bigger? That doesn't make sense, it's just a different color.

Touche Ozzie.
i'm not a size queen so i'll stick with the white one ;)
So the inevitable redesign that slims it down by 40% will be yellow then amirite?
ror!

Quote:
The sharp eyes over at Codename Revolution today discovered that the official ESRB website has updated its Wii games listing with seven classic Sega Genesis titles. The obvious connection to be drawn from that is that these titles will likely be available through the Wii's Virtual Console library.
The seven games:
Altered Beast
Columns
Ecco the Dolphin
Golden Axe
Ristar
Sonic the Hedgehog
Toe Jam & Earl
Keep in mind that this is not official confirmation from Nintendo or Sega, but it's close to it. The ESRB wouldn't be rating and listing these games as Wii titles for no reason.
We'll be sure to update once we get official word on this.

That is so out of place with your avatar.
Ecco wasn't that hard, I beat it a couple of times on the Sega CD back in the day. I lost patience with Tides of Time, though, and never did too much with the Dreamcast version.

Hold the fucking phone.
What was the development code phrase for the Nintendo 64? Oh that's right - Project Reality. Up until the GC, Nintendo really honestly did try to have hardware that was comparable to or surpassed the competition at release. It's no surprise that Nintendo's marketing and PR since then has focussed on "great new experiences instead of rendering sweat drops on basketball players" and how graphics development is hitting a ceiling; it's because they're getting their asses kicked now. Oh, and because they have a few million people who believe tripe like thisand thisQuote:

and get away with releasing a 2001 console in 2006 with some gimmick slapped on.Quote:

Also, that Genesis VC game list is very telling. Seems the WiiVC might not have much of a library beyond what Nintendo itself offers and what all the other third parties have regurgitated in hundreds of collections and/or stand-alone plug&play devices through the previous years.
No shit. It's painfully obvious this is becuase Nintendo is getting their ass kicked.
Doesn't change the fact that the wii is a good deal for most people
This same thing was said about XBLA. Nintendo has admitted themselves they want to reveal new stuff through connect/24 so give it some time.
There was original, non-classic stuff available on XBLA on day one (Geometry Wars RE, Outpost Kaloki X, Bankshot Billiards 2).
And that can't happen on Wii becuase....
Personally I don't think it will have new downloadable games at launch. However it's been stated by the guys at nintendo themselves that they plan to put out new stuff when the Wii is out in market.
XBLA besides the new stuff is a bunch of games already on collections(or worse on your cellhone) Street Fighter for all it's hype was still a damn port.
Your mom is a port.
Oh god I know. Used over and over, released on new ***** ever few years. Put in overpriced collections
it was all about GW2. the rest is pure garbage. i wonder how many bought shitty XBLA games just to rack up thier achievement point?
There are very few XBLA games that I would categorize as "shitty".
I'm not sure about most of these XBLA games, because most of them seem like crappy puzzle titles that I have no use for since I hate every puzzle game besides Dr. Mario. Besides puzzle games, all I see are "classic" games that I still own twenty different versions of (Pac-Man) or have on other compilations (Smash TV). That being said though, I really can't wait for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night to be released because I have never owned a PS1, and I hear that game is one of the best in the series.
I dont know about how much the VC would influence my purchase. Im not sure if its only me, but with older games, I really only enjoy like looking at the title screen and music and then playing 5 minutes of it. Then I feel like playing another old game ect. I think its purely a nostaligia hook, not sure if it would have enough strength to get me to actually pay for the games though.
If the game is good I can still play an older title for a few hours at a time. Hell, Tetris Attack on SNES still hooks me for afternoons.
I think the biggest draw to the VC is if they add online play to some of these games. Online Tetris Attack would be enough to put me into a comma of joy. Online Super Bomberman 3 and Super Mario Kart would be cool as well. Hopefully we get some info in two days.
I have regular Tetris Attack tournaments. I keep having to lend out my SNES to allow people to practice to drum up competition.
Never have I believed any news more.
Like dog$ said, whoever thinks Nintendo didn't care about having a powerful machine is on crack. Nintendo always used to be on the cutting edge both graphically and gameplay-wise. They stopped caring about graphics maybe in 2003.
Umm that kinda was the point... XBLA has new stuff, and the Wii doesn't (so far).
Took you long enough. :p
Thank you for making my point. Nintendo got its ass kicked in the past two generations, and now knows better than anyone else that it doesn't have to make the most powerful console to reap in shitloads of cash. You guys conveniently forget that with the SNES, it lost the market even though it had the most powerful machine. Yet it continually wins the handheld market, despite never being cutting edge.
Such was the case with every console since the N64. The DS is perhaps the best case for this. It's not as powerful in 3D and doesn't have all the movie/MP3/emulator bells and whistles as the PSP and it's still sells like ice cream in the Saharra. Nintendo knows this, and it's what works for it.
Use your brain here. If Nintendo was seriously out to be #1, it wouldn't be going down the route it is now. It has the cash and space to do its own thing, and that's what it does. And like it or not, it's going to laugh all the way to the bank.
Welcome to every Nintendo console since 1995. And your point is?Quote:
Also, that Genesis VC game list is very telling. Seems the WiiVC might not have much of a library beyond what Nintendo itself offers and what all the other third parties have regurgitated in hundreds of collections and/or stand-alone plug&play devices through the previous years.
Yes, didn't care. Past tense.
You're leaving out one very important point: It was cutting edge because it couldn't squeeze any more out of the current hardware it had at the time. It was basically pushed head first in the SNES and the N64. Back when it was a matter of dominance (under Yamauchi), Nintendo cared about the power of its hardware vs. the competition. Today, with him gone and the mountain of cash it has in the bank, Nintendo doesn't really care as much, so long as it has quality games, which it obviously does, since it sells so darn much.
1. I really don't give a shit how much money Nintendo has and am always puzzled asto why Nintendo fanboys care so much.Quote:

2. The games aren't as good as they used to be. They sell so darn much because they're catering to ultra-casual gamers. The best I would have to say about them is that, they are good for what they are.
I'll buy every Zelda game that ever comes out. I don't even care about the quality, I just need to.
The amount of money Nintendo makes dictates how their company is going to change.
Truthiness
Yeah becuase catering to casual gamers is bad.
Nah, I would say they have actually gotten better since the fucking awful N64/GBC days a lot better actually. As good as their classics? Eh, it's argueable at best I know TP is the only zelda game I've even took any kind of real interest in. I really do think they are making the best games they have in years right now.Quote:
The games aren't as good as they used to be
Why is it bad?
because then companies make too much money and from a non-nerdy source. :(
My point is that the people who really believed that all 1K titles of the Genesis library would be on the WiiVC, and so on through the other systems, are in for substantial disappointment. Of course maybe they wouldn't have had their hopes up if the people who reported the information weren't deliberately vague in the first place.I refuse to believe you are this dense.Quote:

Vanilla Ice's debut album went triple platinum.
sales != quality
Nah, I think their output is still on a steady declining line since the NES apex.Quote:

Yes, because comparing Nintendo's success over the last decade to a 1-hit wonder is a spot on comparison.
The quality is good enough for most people, since most of them sell a ton of copies. You seem to be in the minority when it comes to that assessment. but it still rings true.
Nintendo obviously no longer considers it necessary to have the most powerful hardware in order to make money and succeed. Why is that so hard to understand? It's only been the company's practice for a decade already.
lol. And how did they sell?Quote:

And diff, yes, they are catering to the casual gamer now. They've said it themselves. It may piss off a lot of long-time fans, but if it makes them the most money....
I don't think they care if a few jaded fanboys stop buying their games.
