The fact that it ran Mode 7 stuff and a near-perfect port of Rayman was pretty kickass upon launch. If only you could see the screen...

Only the DS and Wii show "not caring about tech".

Because y'know, it wouldn't be praised if it didn't sell a lot. Or if it wasn't a quality game. I forget, one or the other.

I think we're attacking the same point from two different angles. You're saying that it strived for the best hardware. I agree with it going out for great machines, just not necessarily for the sole purpose of having the biggest gun on the block. Nintendo, until this very generation, was a company that milked its machines for all they were worth, only upgrading when there was really no other option. It did it with every console, and has always been (again, until now) the last one to get its hardware out. I don't think it was necessarily just waiting just so it could out-gin the competition in terms of sheer power. Was it a factor, ok, I'll give you that. I'm just saying that maybe it wasn't the driving factor behind its hardware releases. Remember, Yamauchi always believed that the games - not the hardware - was what was important. So long as the games were good, new hardware wasn't necessary.

This latest approach could just be Nintendo taking his philosophy to the max. He was loathe to transition from the NES to the SNES, and stayed with the SNES long after the competition was already being shown (remember "long live SNES!").

Like I've been saying for months, if the Virtual Console doesn't offer XBLA-type enhancements (Achievements, Leaderboards, online play, enhanced graphics) then it is completely useless to me.

Why would I pay high dollar for an emulator? Something like Midway Arcade Classics only costs $20-$30 dollars, day one. They want to charge me like, 8 bucks for a single SNES game? lol.

If they eventually do offer stuff that can't be found on common compilations then it'll be cool. If one day you turn on VC and you can find stuff like Terranigma, Sin and Punishment, SNES F-Zero 2, The SNES Zelda 1 remake that was only available through that Satelite View thing, or a ton of other games that weren't made available to the US and such, then VC will be pretty damn cool.

Yeah, but how long will it take for that to happen? They're not even going to have 30 VC games out at launch and you know their priority will be the same games they've re-released on everything since the GBA; Mario 1-64, Zelda 1-MM, Ice Climbers, Donkey Kong, Bomberman, Metroid...

That will fill 30 games quickly, and after that they are going to release 10 a month. It will be a long while until we see anything interesting. Maybe they'll toss a bone or two to the people craving stuff like Sin and Punishment, but my guess is they won't.

And if these games aren't playable with two people online (original Tetris plz) then the VC is just so worthless.

Nintendo hasn't said anything about Americans being allowed to play imports (but it would go against their casual concepts), and I doubt they'll spend the bucks to translate the games, so my guess is we won't be playing games left in Japan on the VC anytime soon.

This will never ever happen. Don't even hope, it is pointless. I see VC with all the most popular games re-re-re-released (like Super Mario Bros. Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Castlevania, ad nauseum).

You want Sin and Punishment? Just buy the N64 cart for $40 in the used market and stop praying for fucking rain in the Sahara desert.

When has Castlevania been re-re-re-released? There was a PC collection of the NES games and the GBA version of the original. IV, Drac X, Drac XX, Bloodlines, etc. have never been re-released.

Castlevania Chronicles in PS1. It is technically not the NES version but to me, they are close enough. It is like all the variations of Tetris....

I could have sworn one of the press releases allready stated that Nintendo would have 30 games at launch or with in the launch window and that 3rd parties were going to have about 30 games or so also

Yes they have, at either this E3 or last E3 they mentioned that anyone can download any game from any territory, I don't expect to see games receive translations but there are quite a few games that are allready in english do to being released in PAL territories but not here

Five dollars for a NES game (around 32K-128K usually) is even more ridiculous especially in light of the low production values of these 8 bit games. I'd rather take an actual cartridge for that price. Surely $2 would be more fair for a copy flashed into RAM.

That said, SNES/PCE/Genesis titles should go for $4 and N64 games should be around $7.50.

It's the lineup that's made my boner grow soft. I don't think the price is too high, but there's no reason that I see to drop $250 when it'll almost certainly be down to $199 or less by the time a game I really want is out.

I wasn't expecting much, but I was hoping for at least one cool VC title off the bat as well, something like one of the import Fire Emblems or Alien Soldier or the like, I have no interest in getting yet another rom of DK or Zelda and certainly not paying for it.

That controller pricing is hella whack as well.

Everyone needs to quit crying this Gamecube 1.5 bullshit right now though.

Nintendo has recently again stated that the system is region free and I do believe they said that VC was region free also so you may just see them up there obviously in Japanese though least that would be my guess

"Nintendo of Canada has released a press document outlining what we will be getting. The price for the Wii in Canada will be $279.95 plus tax. Wii games will sell for the same as they did last gen at $59.95 + tax. The Wii is actually cheaper than the price that the GameCube launched in Canada for! Back in November 2001, the GameCube launched at around $300 with a higher tax!"

I was thinking it better not be. The dollar is nearly .90; when Gamecube launched it was somewhere close to 70. I recommend any Canadian near the border just cross over and buy their console of choice in the States right now. People are just so used to consoles being something like $100 more in Canada than in the US, and it's bullshit that companys are taking advantage of it.

I was reading 1ups preview for Exite Truck and that is the exact kind of thing Nintendo should keep off the system. If it comes out for more than $10 anyone that buys it should be attacked by a honey badger.

i hope nintendo doesnt make it a trend to constantly update the wii like sony has been updating the PSP....and soon to be PS3.

I gave a shit about metroid prime until I wasted 50$ on it, dull dull game. It was slow plodding and just all around boring. Also lock on targeting rubbed me the wrong way. If they had a tighter more focused action game and less of an adventure game I think it would have been a lot more fun.

Key words there was a good mixture, prime felt bland to me in most every way the action was ho hum and the puzzles weren't interesting.

I have to admit, I payed good money for Prime and eventually lost all interest after practically forcing myself to keep playing. I can see it's appeal, but it's just not my kind of game.

Scanning was a huge bore for me.
