How dare Nintendo make me want a DS. Anything Metroid in 2D can't help but rule. That Zelda subtitle is horrible in so many ways.
OMG!! IT LOOKS AWESOME!!! wait....theres no pics yet. :(
Except for Metroid 2, which sucked, and Metroid Fusion, which a 3 year old could beat with their eyes closed. Yea, Super Metroid is the best game ever but your stupid, cliched statements make me angry.Quote:

Metroid II was great, especially for the time, and used the limits of the GB perfectly.Quote:

None of the Metroids sucked, especially Fusion. You guys are crazy. I can think of alot worse.

Well, the DS lineup is better than the GameCube and GBA combined. I'm not sure if that is bad or good.
There's not one new property on that list. That makes me sad. Isn't Nintendo the one always complaining about how the Japanese gaming industry is going stagnant? The absence of Another World for DS on that list bothers me too.
Oh well...there's always hope for something new @ E3, I suppose *crosses fingers*

3 "marquee" GBA titles? Nintendo must be forcing everybody into a DS.

I actually like the name, if only because it makes me think we're going to get to play as Zelda for a good portion of the game. It's the one thing that could save the game from being a rehash.Quote:

Fusion was reasonably difficult, it was just linear and easy to figure out where to go. The bosses were as tough as ever.Quote:

And Metroid 2 was really good back then, suck it. I guess since I have a DS, and it's the only thing I play aside from my PC and Xbox right now, it's not a bad thing for there to be actual DS titles that interest me. I've just been using it as a fancy GBA.
I'd buy the new Metroid, and I loooooved Mario and Luigi, so part 2 is good news UNLESS they make me blow on it to make Mario jump or some other gay DS shit.
IBTN. Mario & Luigi is the best original title for the GBA, what a fucking wonderful game.Quote:

And fuck you guys, Fusion may have been easy, but it was an awesome game, too. Second best 2d Metroid.
How can you guys tell the difference? Fusion sucked but Super was the best game ever? How can this be? They're like the same goddamned game! Same deal with the 2D Catleoids. HoD sucked (I always hear) but SOTN is the best game of all time? W. T. F. They're all so similar it's like one giant game or one long string of remakes.
Then again I never got the fanatical love for either of these series. And yet I continue to buy and play them all.
I h8 people who hate Metroid 2. Fusion was fun and had good bosses but Metroid 2 owns it with Zero Mission as the best in the portable entries.
Unfortunately various sites reported that Metroid Dread is cancelled and probably did not even make it anywhere past the planning stages. :( It was my sad duty to inform myself and folks of this in this unrelated 'what games are u looking fwd to?" thread:

Sources close to Nintendo tell N-Next that the sequel to Metroid Fusion, Metroid Dread, has been canceled and that the title is no longer in production.
Having first appeared in the June 2005 edition of Game Informer, Metroid Dread was unofficially revealed along with many other e3 2005 titles such as Touch Golf. Of course, gamers began to grow skeptical due to the magazine being released prior to e3 2005. When the first images began to appear from e3, every game, including Zelda's Twilight Princess title, was revealed by Nintendo except for one game: Metroid Dread.
Why was it not revealed at e3 if it existed? Our sources claim that the title was only in pre-developement and was only in its project stages. Now, our sources, whom are close to Nintendo, are reporting that the title has been canceled all together.
Will we ever find out if it did exist? Will we ever find out that it was truly canceled? We may never find out, and if we do find out, it won't be any time soon since Nintendo never officially revealed it so an official cancelation comfirmation probably won't take place.

Fusion did'nt suck, but its not nearly as good as the others. Mainly because its easier than snot, and you don't really get the sense of exploration since they tell you that you are locked in a area and you can't leave until you complete something. You never really have to say to yourself "Where do I go now, ill just have to explore" in Fusion it tells you where to go, and you have no reason to explore.Quote:

Meanwhile, the exploration in Fusion was neutered, sometimes lacking anything to explore at all beyond where to bomb in a single room to get to the goal marked on your map. Same controls, totally different experiences.
Lol what? Are you serious?Quote:

It seems that everyone loves lynching Metroid 2. No, it's not "open", yes it's "linear". But it also is still a great deal of fun to play, and in my eyes is one of the very few original Game Boy games that are still worth the plastic they're incased in today. I'll also say it right here and now in front of everybody, Metroid 2 for the Game Boy, today, is a better game than Metroid is.
Both these games, while linear, have atmosphere and suspense that is unrivaled.
I was in second grade when I got Metroid 2, and that was the first game that truly scared me. Running down the corridor of some structure made by a civilization long since departed, low on health, the only sound you hear being the footsteps of your Power Suit, and it's droning alarm alerting you that your health is at absolute minimum.
That's when the Zeta Metroid lunges at you, depleting your last remaining bit of energy, and the last sound you hear is the disolving of your corpse.
Metroid 2... Damn, I need an SP. I miss that fucking game, man...
EDIT: Having said all of this, Metroid 3 is my favorite game in the world, and has been since 1994. I have yet to play a game I think and feel is more complete and more well-crafted.
Whoa. So i wasn't the only one. Metroid 2 was scary. Those things looked huge on that little screen.
Second grade? I played that game to death when I was in the seventh grade, now I feel old. Also, I just realized it was the first Metroid I ever played and i loved it, like you said it had amazing atmosphere, probably the most moody/creepy GB game I'd ever played up to that point. Me and some friends took turns sharing a save file during phy ed class and study halls. Then the next game in the series I played (of course) was Super Metroid, best game ever and atmosphere X 10.
Also, one factor that upped Fusion's points with me majorly was the final Zeta Metroid boss. Fighting that thing gave me a rush of Metroid II nostalgia.
a 2D DS Metroid metroid is seriously making me wet. i hope it's not a remake though.
Read the last post on the first page.
I thought Super Metroid was pretty easy, except for Ridley.
I hated Fusion, mostly because of the linearity and stupid plot, but also due to that cheapass Nightmare boss that could magically pass through barriers and ram you to death.
I haven't finished the original yet, but I liked Zero Mission quite a bit.
I've never even seen Metroid II, but as soon as I get an SD card reader, that game and a GB emu are going on my cell phone.

I enjoyed Fusion. There was nothing wrong with it aside from it being short and linear, which is hardly a crime. But I died plenty of times, so I would never classify it as easy.
Kind of disappointed Dread was cancelled, but I find it hard to believe there won't be another 2D Metroid in the DS' lifespan.
I've been playing Metroid Pinball for the last couple of days, and it's got me hungry for another proper game in the series - I really hope they manage to pull Hunters off.
I liked Metroid 2. It was pretty creepy.
And I agree with the gripes about Fusion (lack of exploration, ease, etc.) but that didn't make it a bad game. Yes, it's the worst 2D Metroid game, but I still had fun with it.
Super's still perhaps the best game ever, Metroid or not.
BTW, Mretoid Dread was a cool name. Too bad it got cancelled. But like Strider said, I can't see them not releasing a new 2D metroid for the DS at some point.
I liked Super Metroid alot but I still don't understand how anyone can say it's the best game ever. Top 20, sure, but #1?
Yeah, DS is probably the last viable 2D system for Nintendo (did they release a single 2D GC game?), so either we get a 2D DS Metroid, or Zero Mission might end up being the last of them. *Goes back to pinball.*Quote:

I mean I played through nearly the entire game in two sittings. When I was younger I had a Genesis growing up so I never got to play Super Metroid until a few years ago. All I can say is that nostalgia has clearly blinded people into thinking its the best game ever made. Not that thats a bad thing, I think bias can't help to factor into people picking a favorite game. But if you think Super Metroid is soooo ridiculously superior to Fusion you need to get your head checked. Yes, it IS definitely a better game, and YES, it IS one of the best games I've ever played (and I played it like... 7 or 8 years after its original release), but the best game ever? I dunno about that. Buuuuut hey I think Ocarina of Time and the original zelda are the 2 best games ever made, and I know for a fact that my own personal nostalgia has influenced THAT perception. Point in closing, Super Metroid may be amazing, but its not like it was this incredible 40 hour exploration adventure that took you weeks to complete just out of its sheer difficulty. You can play through the game for your first time in 6 hours and still get nearly all the powerups and everything. Don't tell me you can't because I did it.
I love Super Metroid but I don't know if it's even Top 20. I don't know what it is with the Metroidvania game genre but it seems to inspire rabid silliness in it's fans. Games are either the best or worst ever, with no in between. Games just on the SNES I would rank higher than Super Metroid, off the top of my head:Quote:

That's 9 games off of my head just on SNES, I could think of at least 20 Genesis games that'd rank higher, so off the top of my head the highest it could possibly rank if we only include SNES and Genesis games is 30th.
Define "2d beast". It still has alot of the same shitty obsolete sprite/tile/palette limitations and shit that GBA had. It's massively inferior in terms of 2D ability compared to PSP (which has no dedicated 2D hardware, but also none of the limitations associated with that).Quote:

By what my friend (who has beaten the game multiple times with all items) TELLING me what I had and didn't when I gave the game back to him, I can tell you that you can and I did. I certainly didn't have everything, I'm guessing I had maybe 60-70% of the powerups (ie extra power tanks, missile upgrades, that sort of thing), but seeing as how I had only played the game for 5 hours, I don't think its ludicrous to say that you could get EVERYTHING your first time through with NO help in 10 hours or less.Quote:

Spin jump at a wall, then when you're up against it press in the opposite direction. Samus's sprite will change to show her kinda grabbing the wall, and you can jump.Quote:

No one is ever going to play SM and get 100% on their first time ever playing it in under 10 hours without a walkthrough or a strategy guide. THAT is why I called BS.

But my point being, you can still play through the game your first time and not have much difficulty beating it. And if your idea of fun is spending 5 hours looking for one final powerup to get your 99% completion to 100%, then well I guess we just have a difference of opinion in what makes a game great. But now I feel like I'm trashing the game... its still an incredible game regardless of how quickly/easily you can beat it your first time through.
Super Metroid is easy and I don't think anyone denies that. I just don't think that makes it any worse.
For SNES anyways, definitely the best ever IMHO. Super Metroid followed closely by Chrono Trigger and SMW2 are my three personal ultimate "old school" epics. And yes, LttP is still awesome.Quote:

I actually borrowed a Zero Mission player's guide from a co-worker today, I'm finally gonna get 100% collection so I can try hard mode.

Yeah, I thought Ridley was a complete push over in Fusion. I don't recall having too many problems with any of the bosses in either game, I was just sooo dissapointed with Ridley in fusion (especially after playing Prime, which was the first metroid game I'd ever played).

Maybe but FWIW Meta Ridley was way tougher than Ridley in Zero Mission (unfortunately)
