The fourth book was the best in the series. I can't wait for this one.
Tri-Wizard Tournament = the pwnage.
Madame Maxine!
the teaser looks good. I'm on board to see it
It's gonna rock.
Look interesting. Hopefully it ends up better than 3rd film :(
I can't wait.
If they keep on schedule and the books come out on time they could finish all 7 films with the original kids; they've pretty much stopped growing.
All 3 films have been great. I can't wait for the next one. The Tri-Wizard Tournament sounds awesome.
lol, not quite.Quote:

It's mostly not in english, but it has an interview portion that is. It does have clips of the yule ball and madam maxime and her crew rolling up in her flying carrage!
Thanks for posting those links of the new clips. Im all over this movie. I could watch the 1st and 3rd movies a billion times and never get sick of them. I heard the 5th is already in production.
I'm really happy they didn't cut the World Cup after all. They had said they were going to, like a year ago.
I can't wait, this is going to be great.
why would they cut the World Cup portion when it's the one that introduces the Death Eaters?
You really need the box scene in the World Cup to make the movie work.Quote:

Eh. There's no climax to this movie (I guess it would be the cemetary, but that's hardly action packed). I think the end of the fifth book is going to be fucking ridiculously awesome on screen.Quote:

Time to bump this because release is just a week away.
All of the trailers have been fantastic and early reviews are calling this one by far the best Potter movie to date. Run time is at 2 1/2 hours and it sounds like they've kept to the very core of the book, cutting out stuff like Hermoines quest to save the house elves. The fucking World Cup is in, all of the Triwizard events, the special effects are said to be top shelf, acting is strong as ever, the soundtrack is outstanding and....I can't fucking wait.
I got my IMAX tickets on order and I recently recieved an email that there is going to be a midnight showing, but the bastards waited until after I ordered the 7:15 showing to let that out. I really can't wait to see this.
I'm not the biggest Potter fan on the planet, meaning I haven't read any of the books- not really becasue I don't want to, but more because I'm really, really lazy. Either way, I've enjoyed the movies and this one looks amazing. I would say that I'm seeing it day one, but I'm going to have to wait a couple weeks for my giant Potter fan girlfriend to get back in the area to see it with her. Looks great though.
This movie looks amazing.
Though Cho Chang...eh. I just expected someone a lot more hotter than her.
... The actress is like 15
Your point?
You know what, this is my favourite book. And I really give less than a shit about this movie. The Incredibles on the other hand, is fucking quality.
Did you just see the Incredibles or something?Quote:

The incredibles was on while I was writing that post.
I'm not excited because the movies suck balls. Except the third one, that had a bit of life, but it was still terrible.
The books blow the movies away. And everything in the books should simply remain in my imagination unsullied where they are awesome. I'll still go see it. Maybe. The 40 year old virgin is playing at my student theater saturday AND sunday, so I might just go see that twice.
So um... Did anyone see this?
Same with me, I saw it tonight and freaked out when one of the characters was wearing a T-shirt with the same album cover as my avatar on it.Quote:

The book is much more complex than the movie, but it's easily one of the best Potter movies. Not sure if I like this more than Azkaban. Oh yeah, they fucking nailed Voldermort. He's bad ass.
Edit: Saw it at an IMAX which had all of it's showings sold out until Sunday, and when passing by the Loews on the way out of the mall there was a line that was at least 400 people deep. They had at least 10 showings there today.
I saw it last night I liked it, I was upset at home much they left out but it is a HUGE FUCKING BOOK, and they crammed ALOT into 2 1/2 hours, there were just alot of little things I was hoping to see
Yeah, there's just so much that's left out now that the movies are almost completely different from the books. The movies are much more straight foward while there is so much more backstory, character development and plot in the books. Just the nature of each medium, there's really nothing they could do about it.
Biggest bummer is not seeing any of the World Cup match. Just a huge build up and tease. Would have cost another 15 million to do, but it would have been fucking nuts. I'm still impressed with the SFX.
In short, this movie sucked. I've been unimpressed with each and every Harry Potter movie and I doubt the books are worth the read themselves.
There is a lot more to the books. Except for the first one. The movie was basically the book on screen.

I wasn't complaining.
I think it's better than the first movie, but a lot has been changed.
Does it start with the Quidditch World Cup thang?
It starts exactly where the book does. The next scene starts with Hermonie waking up Ron and Harry to go to the World Cup (then they start walking to the port key).
Seems to me that roughly half the book was cut.
edit: Which is exactly what was said above. I'm so lame.
I was really dissapointed in not seeing the Quidditch World Cup, It sets up Krum a bit more and all that
The build up to it is absolutly intense and then BAM, they cut back to the tent after the game. How sick did that Leprechan firework look? Wizards know how to fucking party. And the Dark Mark looked a lot cooler than I thought it would. Like an aurora boriallis (sp!?) of evil.
Saw this last night and I was pretty dissapointed (just like how I was in the first three movies). They did a fairly good job of taking the book and putting as much material as possible in there, but that caused the movie to seem extremely sporadic and jumpy. It would always build up these intense scenes and then all of a sudden the problem is resolved in the next scene with barely an explanation. The movie just doesn't convey nearly as much depth as the book does and that's what made the book so great.
I think your going to have that problem with almost any book to movie translation thoughQuote:

Columbus had enough after doing 2 huge movies back to back. Alfonso only signed on for one movie as did Newell (he has expressed interest in doing the 7th). Actually, they think there is going to be a huge line up for the directors chair for the last movie.
I think Columbus gets a lot of unwarrented hate for his work. Sure the direction is nothing special, but he helped form the strong roots of the movies. The strong casting, the look and feel. I mean, the first movie is about as close to the book as you can get. And he improved with Chamber as well.
You know what I like about the movie over the book?
No reading.
You lazy Canadian you!

He did do a great job of making the movies almost completely intact, but his problem was that his movies were boring as FUCK.Quote:

Fucking great movie. I had a huge smile on my face during every single scene. I fucking LOVED how the world cup looked, the effects in the stadium were awesome, too bad we didn't get to see them play. The Durmstrang guys were cool, they had a great enterance scene, those guys weren't fucking around. I was pleased with Karkaroff, I liked how he kept giving Snape dirty looks. Moody was perfect, he provided a lot of laughs, I only wish that his unforgivable curse lecture was more like the books. The fight at the end was intense, I loved how they handled harry's parents coming out of the wand.
As cool as this movie was it did have its share of problems though. I won't knock them for cutting so much shit out, because you simply can't make a two and a half hour movie out of all the things that are in the book. I didn't like the jumpy editing, some of the scenes had these really sharp, abrupt transitions. Also, if I may get a bit nerdy for a moment, what was with Harry using wordless incantations underwater? I know he spoke the words to shoot him self out of the water, but he was shooting fireballs to cut the ropes by just pointing his wand and making it happen. He doesn't learn how to do this until much later. Then there's the way they handled Sirius, I didn't like how harry just wrote his name plain as day on that letter, I mean, the entire ministry is looking for black, why would he write his name on a note that could be easily intercepted? Oh, and the fireplace effect was dumb, it should've just been a head floating in the fire. And finally, when you look at the movie as a whole, the way they used some of the characters felt uneven, for example, the teachers just felt like props, and some of the other kids could've used some more screen time. Also, why the fuck were the kids so happy during the ending? Considering what had happened they were a bit too cheerful.
Oh well, whatever, I still enjoyed the hell out of this movie.
Least favorite book, least favorite movie. I won't say I didn't like it, but I didn't think it was great. Can't wait to see what they do with Order of the Phoenix.
This was the first 2 hour and 40 minute movie that I've seen in a long time that didn't feel too long. It was really good. Plus, unlike the last movie, my girlfriend didn't have to explain shit to me because I didn't read the fucking book. It stood on its own as a movie very well. Thumbs-up.
Overall, I really like the Potter movies, and this was the best one yet. Voldermort was a bit of a letdown after being built up as the mack daddy of evil for the last three movies (I mean, he couldn't even beat Harry, though I understand he was weakened by just being resurrected or whatever- he better be more of a bad-ass in the next movie), but Ralph Finnes was pretty creepy I guess. I liked the darker tone of the flick and was pretty surprised when the one student got killed.
But what the fuck was up with the friends/family of the competitors being the "treasures" that were sunken at the bottom of the lake? Parents send their kids to that school, which no doubt costs a shitload, with the chance that their kids might be condemned to a watery grave in some retarded competition? I mean, what if Harry hadn't rescued that French soft-core pornstar's sister? Would she have drowned, or would whoever was left would be safely rescued by the teachers? I mean, why would they put innocent bystanders in peril? didn't get that part.
And as an aside, it's nice to see that all the girls are growing up quite nicely. They're not quite there yet, but I'd say by the 5th or 6th movie Hermonie and Ron's sister (the redhead, I forget her name) will both be right buggerable.
Read the book pls.
The students underwater were in no danger, Harry just thought they were. The crazy underwater fight sequence was a movie-only thing.
Voldermort should have looked like General Zod, not Spiderman villain The Chameleon.

I shouldn't have to. But thanks for answering my question anyway.Quote:

But did Dumbledore cheat and give Harry 2nd place in the book like he did in the movie for doing it?Quote:

1) Arg, I hate it when people just refer to them as childrens books. You just have to read them to see why everyone likes them. Besides, if you like the movies there's no way you won't like the books that are are many times better.Quote:

Believe me, I liked this movie enough that I'd given thought to checking the books out. I probably won't, as my book shelf is filled with shit I need to get to, but the thought is there. I have no doubt that the books are charming.Quote:

Hey, I can't blame him...when I saw the fucking kids tied to the lake bed I was like "WTF, Hogwarts is down with Satan" and shit. The book may say they were never in danger, but no one in the movie said that. Dumbledore came off like a pre-NOOOOOOO Darth Vader because of it.Quote:

Well, it's not like the books are going anywhere, so as long as you get around to reading them when you get the chance it's all good.Quote:

True.
I've been fighting the urge to read this again. I'll probably cave in soon.
That was one of the things that bothered me, because I was trying to watch the movie as if I had never read the book and not enough was explained. Had they done everything properly, the movie would have been over four hours long, so they did well with what they had, but they still could have taken those few extra seconds to explain scenes like that. It really was only a matter of making it a few minutes longer to flesh out those small details.Quote:

Best Harry Potter movie review ever (it's for the first movie): http://ruthlessreviews.com/movies/h/harrypotter1.html
I dunno. But the kid playing Ron belongs on the list of actors in this series that are getting fucking weird looking as they grow older. Harry's looking the same, Hermonie's looking the same, but Ron and Draco Malfoy are turning into freaks. It's a shame, the kid playing Draco was fucking sinister looking in the first two movies, then in the third one he grew 4 feet and became evil stick figure boy. He just ceased to be evil looking in any way- he looks like Howard Stern with blond hair now.Quote:

The actor changed because the first actor died.
Another thing- the two twin brothers tried to cheat to get their names in the Goblet, and everyone cheered them on. Then everyone thinks Harry cheated to get his name in, and they all hate him. Then he wins the first trial against the dragon, and suddenly all of Hogwarts is swinging from his nuts. What a bunch of fickle assholes.

The point was they are easy to read. Not that they are comparable in content.
Fucktards. Learn to read.
From what I've heard about the movie the book and film are...I can't come up with a phrase that is strong enough. From scene 1 where you SEE Barty Crouch talking to the Dark Lord the entire story is radically different. And no veela, team mascots, winky the house elf, blast ended skrewts.. no monsters in the maze at the end... what's the point?
The reason they were all mad at Harry is because he was the Fourth of Three champion slots. If it were JUST Fred that won school champion everyone would be glad. But Cedric was the favourite, and Harry has had a history of "hogging glory," and as was previously mentioned, Hufflepuff rarely gets any glory.
That's not what I said. I know that, it's obvious. It's just that Dumbledore here is drastically different from Dumbledore in movies 1+2. I actually was expecting Dumbledore to act more like he does in this movie in the first few, rather then being so mellow and sickly (since he was sick). The Dumbledore that was in 1 and 2 would have been PERFECT for The Half-Blood Prince. However, it's quite jarring the change in his character.Quote:

Not really, I just mentioned those things because they are some of my favourites.
The very first scene significantly alters the entire story. The omission of winky follows from that, but it's important to parts of Hermione's development and to continue that mystery of Barty Crouch.
Why am I bothering with this? Fuck this thread, it's goddamn Harry Potter. The books are decent, the movies are garbage. Read them for a good story. Watch the movies if you like CGI. I'm sober enough to sleep now. G'night.
