I know at my school downloading stuff was more or less fine but if you got caught uploading God knows what to God knows who, they'd shut off your Internet and either give you a warning or refer you to the judicial board.
Suffice to say, all the stories I've heard about kids getting fined ridiculous amounts of money by whatever organization that goes by whatever acronym were for uploading stuff, but not downloading. So I'd say that there is a difference, a difference that hasn't really been addressed here I don't think.
Shit, I didn't realize the thread was over. :(
No, you see... you were owned:Quote:

"Taking some kid to court over having an avi file of a movie is like Fender sueing Marshall for making tweaked Bassman "
If they patented it, then yea. If some kid is distributing an avi file that they don't own that someone else leagally does, then yea.
"Truth be known piracy in many forms is not against the law."
Truth be known, what people are doing is not one of those things.
And yes, downloading fine, here is the problem: you couldn't do that if someone wasn't uploading. If you're prodownloading, then you pretty much have to be prouploading as well, otherwise, you can't do the first one.
No, I've been arguing that it was not a black and white issue. ;_; sorry you don't read well.Quote:

EDIT: Same goes for movies in any format.
I was arguing against something Joust said a few pages back. The way he expressed himself made him seem very black and white on the issue, he even compared it to other forms of stealing and acted like it was all the same thing. I brought up the kid thing becuase, hey, it isn't all the same thing.Quote:
