Why are PC cases so ugly?

Just a small discussion. I am looking at components that may go into my PC eventually. I am trying to build up pieces over time so I can properly budget and not blow all my cash or fill up my credit card. I was looking at cases.

Why are these cases so nasty?

This is some of the most hideous industrial design Ive ever seen. Even the best are just strikingly mediocre, like a perfect complement to a $30 Wal-Mart DVD player.

Why is it that these case designers have the need to make every case into something that looks like:

01. A monolithic phallus.
02. it belongs on the set of a sci-fi themed porno.
03. A window to a freak show.

Man, I just want something that looks fairly classy yet understated. Kind of like... oh, the G5's tower design. I think we are long past the point where owning a computer is considered nerdy or juvenile. But these cases dont reflect that - putting this stuff in your place as a 20-something is equivalent to Spiderman sheets or Batman underwear.

I go to the Apple store and see people ogling Macs and looking longingly at them. No wonder, if they got this crap in their house.

LOL at the horrible Bat-Rig.

Theres only so many ways you can make a box look. And the fact is computer architecture today requires a box. And frankly i'll take what we have now over anything Apple is selling.

Actually, mathematically, there is a near infinite amount of ways you can make a box look, and most of them dont involve turning it into a freak show of ugly lights, windows, cheesy cutouts, ridiculous color schemes, and lame decals. Its not like PC cases five or ten years ago looked like this.

That's why you lose. ;)

Man, that Batman case is the lamest thing I have ever seen, and I used to watch Hangin' With Mr. Cooper.

That second one isn't so bad.

Maybe the PC world will take a cue from the 360 and have detachable faceplates.

As is the case in many instances, I blame the Fast and the Furious.

Its probably the *least* bad of the ones I listed, but it still has that stupid window with the corny swirls, that dumb X in the center, that lame curved grill, and a color scheme that accentuates its ridiculousness. Its ugly as sin, definitely not understated and classy, and not something I would want in a home of my own.

Keep in mind, guys, that I didnt have to work hard to find these cases or pull out the worst examples. All but the last one were on the first page of the newegg case section, and there are a lot more if I wanted to put up there. People are buying this shit in droves, no doubt. :sweat:
