My computer plays NES games better than my NES does. My computer can then do a lot of other things equally well. Would you say that a typewriter is better than a computer? It is dedicated to writing letters, where a computer is not. As well, as already has been mentioned, the PS2 and Xbox play DVDs perfectly fine, no less so than dedicated DVD players.Quote:

The biggest requirement is that the company making said product just puts in a bit of time to refining the options presented in their product.
I think the question is whether or not a new "does everything" console will be able to perform as well as a new dedicated gaming console when they both come out at the same price, and I don't think that would be the case unless there's some shortsidedness in the development or pricing of the dedicated system.Quote:

It's not really fair to compare computers to dated tech, and you can get DVD players that play DVDs just fine for much less than a PS2 or Xbox. I imagine that when they approach the prices of those systems, they provide better functionality than the systems, and if you want that for your DVD playing and only want the Xbox for Xbox gaming, you're paying extra for something you don't need that is worse than what you already have.
So you're saying there will be something that will play PlayStation 3 games better than the PlayStation 3?Quote:

Actually, the required licensing fee from the DVD consortium (of which Sony will actually recoup a little of) does add a cost, which is why MS did the whole "you need the remote to play movies" thing. Instead of paying the fee for every Xbox sold (when many of them very well may never be used to play movies) it was attached to the playback kit.Quote:
