I was always a big DK Jr. fan. I want to see more games like DK 94 and Mario v. DK, or the originals with extra levels tacked on.

Damn, the INTV versions look lousy- worse than the 2600 ones. DK Jr. looks like a white-shelled turtle on INTV.
I thought the original DK on Atari 8-bit was great. Keeping the factory stage that the NES and Colecovision ones don't have makes a big difference IMO. How could Coleco not have kept all 4 stages in a 24K cart when Atari did so with only 16K? :wtf: The only knock on it is that the graphics seem horizontally stretched- if you pause the game at the right frame of Mario's death animation, he looks like a smashed bug.
On the NES I think it was cart size that caused the level to be dropped. The better graphics and sound there probably took up more space than what was in the 8-bit one.

Shown there are some screen shots of Ocean's Amstrad CPC version- a very good one. Unfortunately, their Mario Bros. port for the same system isn't nearly as good.
When the series went to N64, the scavenger hunt gameplay made it jump the shark. Those Rare DK characters need to get the hell out of the series.
Anyone who doesn't like Donkey Kong Jr. isn't a real human.
I picked up DK:JB at WalMart (open item) for $40 with bongos a few weeks back, and its one of my favorite games this year. Shoot, this gen!
I just got Mario vs. DK a few weeks ago and have been having a lot of fun with it. Never could quite figure out what the "GB Player mode" got me, but whatever. Came in handy when waiting in the Emergency Room a couple weeks ago :)
I really liked "Mario vs. Donkey Kong".
I never played Konga, but I'm not really into those types of games. I played "Donkey Kong Jungle Beat", and it seemed pretty cool, yet not worth a purchase.

I just got Donkey Kong for Game Boy a few weeks ago, complete in its original box. It's quite an excellent game. Even though I got it after the PSP was released, it's gotten almost as much play time as my PSP games.
This game is quite different from the early Donkey Kong games, with extra emphasis on puzzle solving. The first few levels are modeled similarly to the original Donkey Kong game's levels, and are fairly straightforward. After that, it deviates noticeably from the tried-and-true formula by throwing many, many more levels at you. Some of these levels are simple action romps, but others are more puzzle-like and require thinking and occasional experimentation.
It's a great handheld game, because you can pick it up and just chip away at a few levels. It also looks and sounds even better on the Super Game Boy on SNES--it's great to finally have a game in my collection that takes full advantage of the Super Game Boy. :)
For the classic Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. games, I usually bust out the Atari 7800 versions. They look much better on a "real" 7800 hooked up to a TV than in an emulator--for some reason, most 7800 games played on emulators don't seem to have the correct color palette (this is evident in the 7800 Donkey Kong screen that NeoZeedeater posted). The sound isn't very good in the 7800 versions, but they play very well. The 7800 versions of these games (and also Mario Bros.) were ported from the NES versions, which is pretty obvious if you compare the minor changes in the level layouts between the arcade and NES versions--the same changes are apparent in the 7800 versions.
The Commodore 64 version of Donkey Kong (by Atarisoft) was very well done, and had all four boards. I haven't played the Atari 8-bit computer version myself, but I've heard a lot of people say that it is overall the best home adaptation of the original arcade game (not counting emulated versions). Although it doesn't look as good as many of the other home versions, it supposedly has the gameplay nailed down almost perfectly.
Perhaps your most extensive thread yet, Neo. Good stuff.
I still like to play DKC 1 and 2. The music is glorious and it just has a cool feel to it that few sidescrollers matched.
DK Jungle Beat is underated as a Donkey Kong game could possibly be. The game is incredible. PLAY IT!
Does the original DK only have 3 levels or am I missing something?
