Maybe it depends on the place, but my friend used to work at Chillis and the tips weren't collected and split equally. What he had to do was pay off certain members of the staff (busser, cooks, etc...) at the end of the day. So the tip you gave the waiter actually goes to everyone that contributed to your meal. Of course, the waiter will keep the most of the tips and it's not split evenly. Would be kinda unfair if the cook gets half of every waiter's tips... Because of this, my friends and I usually leave a good tip.Quote:

I'd figure that with a table of 14 people, you'd at least TRY to do the bare minimum that's expected of you. We did look rather ghetto (it was 4th of July and we just came from the beach) so that might be a factor, also.
The only time he was actually there was when he gave us the bill, where he proceeded to stand behind us all and wait for the money. Probably thinking we'd eat and not pay. The waiter actually had the NERVE to demand for his tip after we paid the check, saying that they survive on tips. We know very well that you do, one of us owns a restaurant and a few of us worked at one before. Earn your tip. Don't expect one if you didn't do shit to deserve one.
