I've had my eye on this for awhile now -- thinking about picking it up with the cash Uncle Sam owes me. Sucks that I am going to have to invest in a whole new entertainment unit though if I actually do end up getting that model.

I've only seen it at a couple of stores (Looked at an open box one at Fry's for $519), but it's not the norm. I believe that model is slowly being fazed out and being replaced with this model:

ahhh I didn't see any open box ones dont think iw ould buy an open box one anyway feel too unsure

and yeah i think thats the new model but Im not sure whats different on it over the current one, though I do like the current models design more

According to Circuit City's review section, the 3079 had issues with 1 in every 20 units having a slight warp at the edge of the picture. I'd guess that the newer model was designed to help alleviate this problem.


I bought my Sony KV-32HS420 as an open box item about a year ago for $800. That model is still selling for $1000 at most stores. I've had no problems with the set and if I did, I could always return it within 30 days of purchase for a full refund. Saving $200-$300 on a set is a pretty good deal to me. You could always purchase a warranty for around $80 and still come out a winner.

Open box is the way to go. No doubt.

I can confirm the open box leetness. I didn't get mine that way, but I've had no issues with any other openbox purchases.

Of course I get the 1 in 20 thats fucked up. I picked up this TV yesterday and I'm really impressed with it, except for the bowing at the edges of the screen. If it's just displaying a picture it's not noticeable, but any station that has a ticker at the bottom, or any sort of menu screen, there is a huge warp right in the middle of it, near the bottom. I love blowing 800 bucks on busted stuff, AWESOME.

I Just bit the bullet and bought this. It is actually bigger than I thought it'd be and fits nicely in the living room. I am thoroughly satisfied with my purchase.

Congrats Razor and hopefully Jed as well. It's a nice CRT and Samsung seems to have some of the nicer sets for the price.

on the subject of HDTV. can i run HD-WMV movie/clips on a DVD player that play WMV? would they run in HD, or down converted to 480i? ....or would it just not run at all?
