Stuff like The Shield, Scrubs and Dead Like Me are series box sets I want that I don't currently have because all of them have good entertaining replay value. Once I get through the nostalgia of these old cartoons I'm left with paperweights taking up valuable shelf space.
With that said, I did buy the Samurai Jack sets and regret nothing.
Your out of your mind of you think anime isn't better than a lot of the american stuff right now. WHy watch Kim Possible when there is Cowboy Bebop,MtV's Spider-man when there is trigun. Hell there almost is no action genre in american animation nowadays.Quote:

If you want to talk about this, make your own damn thread. You will not derail a 3 page thread that I made while drunk with this crap.Quote:

Part of the problem is stupid American anime fans who buy the crap stuff, so that the titles that are a bit different and unique don't come over here. However, after being in Japan, I found out the sad fact that the Japanese fans are pretty much just as bad, and would rather have the braindead cutesy magical girl stuff rather than shows that have more depth to them.
To be honest, I can't remember the last anime title that I've seen, not counting Azumanga, that could stand up to the enjoyment level and quality of something like the Venture Bros.
Yeah, that is the big problem with anime. It is all way too cliched. I think a lot of people become anime fans, because those cliches are different from American shows. But if you watch enough of it, you realize you've seen the same thing in 12 shows and what was once original is very typical for Japan.
Take Tenhi muyo for example. If it was the first anime that you’d ever seen, it would seem very original. But if you’ve seen more than 3 or 4 anime shows or read any manga you realize that there is nothing special about it. Except for a few things here and there, 80% of that show has been done better else where.
Dole, there is some Inspector Gadget on DVD for cheap (like $10). This could help you see if it does get old quickly.
go get Giant Robo. whole OVA series is out on DVD from Anime Works. Best series i have seen in a long time, with character art reminiscent of tezuka (retro bubbly style, vs. big haired pink anime girl.) and just wonderful action direction. the characters and action and personality (and art direction) lift this one above most of the anime that is out there.
Fuck Giant Robo

lol, I remember that "The NEW gigantor" cartoon the scifi channle used to show.
"HE'S BIGGER THAN BIG, TALLER THAN TALL, GIGANTOR!"
