I'm surprised that this thread got even this many replies. This was really meant as a counter-attack.

Keep in mind...all of this is just my opinion. As a parting note, I have never been interested in "gathering a crowd".
And, no, sports games are not real games. They are simulations. I suppose that I could go on...but I will make this comparison. There are movies and there are films. If you dont understand the difference, then you are wasting time here. There are games and there are simulations. Films and movies. Games and simulations. And, to add a little something, all of the PSX games that you listed, Madden not included, I played and enjoyed. My whole point behind this was to point out the severe lack of ingenuity and creativity that developers show. Guess I took too much of an "intelectual" approach.
That would be intellectual!
I could say the same thing about the 16-bit era. I could name maybe 30 or so titles, that I would consider different from the norm. Most titles were clones of titles done on 8-bit gaming consoles. The Legend of Zelda-A link to the past, was a lot like the original Zelda. Did it suck, hell no. Super Metroid played a lot like the original Metroid. Te game was still great. You did say, that for all intensive purposes, gaming died, after they killed the Saturn, but you then go on to say later that you enjoyed all those games on PSX and N64. I guess it did'nt really die then, did it?
Anyways, scoff at the DC all you will, but the points you have made, could easily be made of most systems out there.
PENIS!!
PENIS AND PEANUTS I SAY!!! ALL IN THE SAME CRACKPIPE!!
PENIS GODAMMIT!!!
EGGROLLS!!!!
#include <iostream.h>
#include <conio.h>
main()
{
cout>>"I like watermelon jello.";
}
i like eggrolls
not penis eggrolls mind you
just regular eggrolls their quite yummy infact i think tomorrow i should have some
Oh I see, you're jaded - thanks for clearing that up for me. Never mind. Carry on enjoying not liking everything then.Quote:

Pound for pound, as it was stated, the DC was THE most mediocre system ever. Besides the few games that saw the light of day on it, the DC turned out to be nothing more than a rookie developers testing kit. Sonic Adventure and SA 2 were garbage. Sega waited until they killed it to bring out the remakes and the big guns. I really could go into a drawn out list, like some guys love to do, but I truly feel that, for the most part, video games died after Sega killed the Saturn. There were some truly unique games, games of skill, that blessed the Saturn. Every system after that has been nothing more than crappy attempts at big name publishers trying to cash in, with a few spots of sunshine in between. I doubt that we will ever see the hay-days of the SNES and Genesis ever again. The XBOX is struggling just like the Gamecube, simply because all of the games and game ideas that are on them now, have already been done on the PS2, again, a few bright spots excluded. Originality is gone and the market is collapsing. Sooner than later, there will be no "new" games, just rehashes.
Of the 32 DC games that I once owned, I played 4 to completion and the rest were just a laughable waste of money. I finished Grandia 2, Shenmue(snicker), Armada, and Soul Calibur(if you consider it a beatable game). Like I said, the rest were just crap. A very scant few held my interest with their multi player aspects, like Virtua Tennis and Worms Armagedeon, but past that, I really cant see why the DC had such a loyal following. Sega has never cared about their LOYAL fans and they never will. They screwed u all with the DC and they are whoring themselves out to the highest bidder these days. It is almost like pro sports is these days. The good stuff is almost all gone.
So a simulation that exactly recreates a game is not a game? The mind boggles.Quote:

I vote for King. :)

....dammit. The main reason I was drawn to the GameGo and TNL boards was to get away from this kinda crap. Call me a snob, but I want to post with people unaffected by the whole mainstreaming the industry has taken. I'm...disappointed.
oh well
*boots up JGR*
So are you calling films and movies the same!? FILMS and movies??Quote:
