Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike

That's it. I've had it. I need to stop playing public games soon.

Here is my dilemma. Players ranked B and below refuse to play a full match with me and drop, or they play a single match and then leave. Players A rank and above, with the exception of Mr. Wizard, refuse to accept my challenges out of fear, or they drop on me.

I should be S rank by now, but I'm sitting at like. . K thanks to droppers. Bullshit. We need to start playing in private.

I typically play sporatically between the hours of 7pm and Midnight on Weekdays, and randomly on weekends. Though I'm available for invites on AIM and stuff anytime I'm home.

My main's are Elena and Hugo with Necro and Sean as my current secondarys, though I tend to cycle through everyone but Akuma and Q in casual play.

BEWARE!

Decent games Tojo, but what was up with our connection? When you hosted it kept disconnecting, and then for some odd reason or another, I kept failing easy 360's (Like when I blocked your SA3 with Hugo. . and then jumped straight up and came down with nothing. Whaaaaat the Hell). A few notes though.

- I play the worst Ken ever, which is what makes EL TAUNTO so great.
- Seriously, word of advice? Don't taunt unless you do it in the middle of the match. You just look like a punk when you do it at the end of the round.
- That last match with Elena vs Hugo, that's a horrible match for Hugo unless you know what you're doing. . which is why I just zone with b.rh the entire time.

Other than that. . bah. My game is off tonight. Good games.

-EL TAUNTO is awesome. He showed me what's up.
-I was just playing with the taunting. So many people have done it to me at the end of the rounds that it's just something I picked up I guess. I'll try not to do it anymore. My bad.
-I was hoping you'd pick Hugo cuz I only play Hugo as a joke character. Elena does own him for free.

The connection was weird. I don't know why it did that that couple times. It has never happened to me before like that.

Good games though. I know everyone and their brother uses SA3 Ken but he's my bread and butter. I've been a Ken Masters player since the original SF2. I guess there's just a million people like me out there though.

This was the first time I had played any sort of fighting game in a long while. I suck at SF and I know it. Halo 2 has just taken over. Regardless, send me an invite if you wanna play again sometime.

Oh yeah, I use my PS2 Ken Masters pad with an adapter for fighting games on my XBox. So no headset for me. I'm really hoping the XBox Nuby pads have a headset port.

It's just that it's weird. At all the major arcades at here, no one ever taunts at the end of the round because it's just like. . blatantly disrespectful and arrogant. Taunting in the middle of the match though is funny. Killing with taunts is even better.

You poke well Ken, but you should learn to play him a bit more aggressive. It's good to see that you have his bread and butters down though. My Ken is HORRID~

I used to think Hugo was weak too, until I finally got into him. He's pretty easy to play. . he just requires patience and knowing exactly how to use his stuff -- a lot like Necro, only less so. A lot to Hugo is spamming his high priority moves (st.mp, cr.mk) since they're hard to punish unless you're Chun-Li, getting them bored and annoying to the point to move in and do something stupid and BAM, 360 of death.

Yeah, I had forgotten that I set up AIM to allow a friend of mine to leech music from me and he came and attacked my bandwidth without me knowing it. ... Bastard.

Good match, though! I'll send an invite when I see you online again. I played a few matches after that (hosted and not hosting) that ran great once I turned that leeching crap off. Sorry about that. ^^;;

Add me too Slip. I'll play you. I stopped playing the game regularly a month or so ago, so I'm a bit rusty. Droppers are definitely a problem, and I generally tend to only play friends now, but I don't believe a damned word about people being afraid to play you :)

My interest in 3S online came back when I had to stop going to SVGL thanks to working too much. What sucks is that I work literally 10 minutes away from both MGL and SVGL in either direction, except the last thing I want to do after work is stay in the area longer (It's an hour commute. . wah).

Anyways, I'll try and get some matches in before Family Guy and add some more people to my list. I'm still a little crappy in the head from being sick but it should do.

SFAC's horrible LIVE implementation makes it difficult to let people know that you're online for Third Strike unless you create a match -- and who wants to wait around for an indeterminable amount of time with "Awaiting a Challenger" flashing across the screen, or face stupid, random droppers who want to preserve their ranking.

Thus, I propose that we designate one day a week for a "TNL Fight Night", where we all go online to play Third Strike against each other without the random waiting and droppers.

I'll be online tonight at around 10:15 PM EST for Third Strike. Anyone else want to participate in the inaugural "Fight Night"?

No one appeared last night, but I'm not giving up on the "Fight Night" idea. The next step would be to decide what day and time would be best for everyone to hold "Fight Night". Any suggestions? Tuesday is out of the question for me, but I'm open for any other day provided that it is after 9:30 PM EST.

More like 11PM. It really depends on the day.. I have friends over often, so my online gaming is generally right before I go to bed. I guess if I knew ahead of time there'd be a lot of people that won't be little bitches, I could shift my TV watching schedule too (yay DVR!) :)

He means his actual, physical disc he left at his sister's place in GA. Darmonde is the guy that played some of you under my name when I was at his place, I think he did the Ryu to Dudley corner throw -> OTG shin shoryuken to you. He kept going for it, and we almost died laughing when it worked.

TNL Fight Night sounds like a great idea. I haven't played this game in months, but I'm down for getting beaten down. I can't parry on live for anything...not that I'm wonderful at it after years of not playing the game seriously, but I'm a hell of a lot better offline. You name a time and day and I'll try to make it (not tonight, though).

I'd love for people to help me learn to play, or at least give me tips on how to get better, because I just got the collection and have barely played it... and never got a chance to play it before since there a 2 arcades within an hour of me, and they both suck.

Kao Megura's Third Strike FAQ (first link on the list) is a good spot to learn moves and combos for the characters.

Bradygames put out a nice strategy guide for the game as well, as it describes advanced tactics for each character (kara throws, charge partitioning) along with combos and recommended match-ups.

And if we find each other online, I wouldn't mind spending a few rounds telling you what I know (it's not much, but it's something).

I still play this occasionally. There are some people who are just redicuously good at third strike and its just not fun, and then theres the 'pick ryu every game' guys, but its still good fun. Im up for the fight night thing.

Yeah, the XB controller has a communicator port on the bottom of the controller. It is identical to the PS2 controllers in all other respects. I like mine.

Nice to hear a good testimony about this controller. Is the D-Pad on par or better than the PS2 d-pad? I'm using that now for 3S and after a few rounds the ball of my thumb hurts like a bitch. :bang:

On a side note, I'm going out tonight after work to see Episode III with my fiancee and some other friends of ours, so, I'll try to be on when I get back here later. Hopefully it won't be too late. :sweat:

If you guys were smart, you'd move fight night to fridays when I won't have work to worry about.

UPDATE: Got the Akuma set and canceled my order from EB. Right now I'm doing some tests and will see how good the ppp/kkk buttons hold up.

I played a bunch of games with Cowdisease, which went fine until the last 2 games lagged like crazy. A couple of notes-

- I hate Hugo vs Hugo matches because I always end up getting screwed. . and doing 360's online still rarely works when you want it to.
- My shoto playing is horrible unless it is Sean
- I realized what I hate most about 3S online. . the inability to confirm things -- like all my random EX shoulder charges with Urien that were obviously going to be blocked.

That matches went something like 16-2 in my favor.

Fight Night was a success, at least for me. I had a good string of matches with Tain last night, followed by another good string of matches with Sl1p (except for the final two lagging matches). So should we make Fight Night a permanent fixture at Wednesdays from 9:30 PM to 11:00 PM EST?

By the way, Sl1p, what controller/stick do you use when you play online?

Hori Fighting Stick EX

My favorite retail stick since the DC ASCII. It has a communicator port but I only use that while playing DOAU2. Every other fighter is too sensitive to lag.

I think we should maybe have a second Fight Night on Saturday Night around 11pm EST. In about a week my schedule is going to be murder and I'll never see a Fight Night in till, like, August. So, if anyone is up for some Third Strike next week, just make it known.

I'm also adding everyone on this thread to my friend list so I can see if anyone is playing whenever I have some free time (Which is probably going to be really late or really early in the day).

I'm suprised it's about the same as the original 6-button pad that came with the xbox, but the setup is quite an improvement.

Still, I'm pissed capcom doesn't get with the program and switch to a X2 function instead of X3, I can never play Zangief or Gen fully when it comes to pads.

By the way, Voltz can only play from 6 to 8 PM EST on Fight Night, so if you can't make the usual time because it's too late, you'll find an eager challenger during Voltz's timeslot.

Hey guys. If you don't mind another scrub joining your ranks, I would like to part-take in the fun. Do you guys usually play "friends only" matces? Just want to know before I start sending 18 invites.

Yep, friends only games. I really wish SFAnniversary was more like DoAUltimate with lobbies and such, but that would have required effort.

"Friends only" matches. Go ahead and send the invites, although leave a voice message saying you're from TNL so that people know where you're from.

I just played some good matches with Cowdisease tonight. Sean rules! XD!!

I stopped playing though towards the end of our Hugo x Ryu match. . I don't know who I'm trying to fool. Playing Hugo online is impossible.

Doh. I tried joining your games before I signed off. It said you were available but when I clicked on your name, there was no join option. I never saw an invite either :X Weird. .

But yeah, next Fight Night we'll play.

I got your invite. It's just that I was playing a good string of matches with Sl1p, so I couldn't leave and accept yours. Sorry about that. I think you'll see more TNL people online in Wednesday's Fight Night.

I'll keep that in mind when the weekend comes (especially if I'm not playing Chaos Theory on Saturday Fight Night - [10:30 PM EST - 12:00 AM EST]).

It's too bad you can't play during the week, because Wednesday Fight Night is when most of us go online to play (9:30 PM EST - 11:00 PM EST).

At Geen's BBQ, we had to play with stock controllers and I couldn't do anything at all. Now this Peter kid thinks he's better than me and it eats away at my soul, so I'll start playing you guys again to get some practice in before I rematch him with a stick and destroy him.

It was fun. Sorry that I had to run. I really should at least learn the special moves for characters before using them =). I had been using the stock controller, but yesterday was the first time I used the NubyTech controller for the Xbox. What a disappointment. I prefer gamepads to arcade sticks, but that almost made me want to get one. I might look into a Saturn to Xbox converter. No one else showed up last night. Oh well.
