Becoming a writer....

So, I'm wondering if I should go back to school. Right now, I've been done College for about a year and I can't really find any good jobs in my field (New Media design).

I got to thinking that I do enjoy writing and the bonuses that come from having people enjoy your writing. I just don't know what exactly I should be looking for.
If I take a general writing course, would it be any good for the job hunt?

Are writers in high demand?

I also would like to know if there are any TV writing specific courses out there. Writing scripts etc. I would like to get into entertainment as a writer but I just need some advice on where to start.

If I do go into writing, how versatile is it? Is the demand on writers high, medium or low? Will finding a job as a writer be as annoying as being a web designer?
I figure if I take a general writing course and do well, I could look into being a columnist for a paper, or a critic for movies or lots of opportunities....

Anyone care to share some advice?

My original major was going to be graphic design. Luckily I stopped myself right before I enrolled. My ex-girlfriend ended up going all the way and well. . you're right. She's totally fucked. Sup job at Wet Seal.

It's beyond crowded, beyond competitive and so narrow and focused that you're simply fucked. Theres still a point in being, say, an illustrator. but graphic design is tapped.

My Girlfriend has a degree in graphic design. She graduated with maximum honors.



She teaches gymnastics.

Depends on what you want to write about, yeah I didn't read your whole post. Writing can have its ups and downs but don't expect to be making millions. I'm taking Communications/English and my beginning pay will be about $29k a year.

The day I become a graphic design major is the day I explode into thousands of pieces. It's an utterly worthless major. Graphic Design is the new Philosophy.

So, does anyone know anything about writing because I didn't take Graphic Design, I took more a 'Web Design' type course with some other pointless courses thrown in. It's ok, but unless you want to start your own business it is really hard to work in the web media industry.

People who don't go to art school shouldn't be graphic designers.

You can major in either Journalism or English. There's not exactly a field major for "guy who writes stuff."
