If she wants to be an architect then she's gonna have to go back to school and get a degree in it. Becoming someone who designs houses and shit is a tough road, even for people with the degree. It takes 5-10 years of shit work to prove yourself, maybe less if youre good at sucking dick. She's gonna have to learn a lot more than just AutoCAD.Quote:

As someone who works in the aerospace industry (doing very low level 2D drafting work) I am in constant contact with designers, engineers, the machine shop, and aircraft assemblers. AutoCAD is nice, but for any serious design work, CATIA is the industry standard. CATIA ver.5 is capeable of some truely amazing things.Quote:

It will be interesting to see her progression (and if she sticks with it). But it's great to see that design can be applied to so many different things in life. It's hardly a useless profession if you've got some talent and lots of drive.

Besides rewording the quotes that I selected above, the best advice I can offer to any aspiring writer is to take a tenacious interest in the idea of self-improvement. Like all masterful musicians, a wonderful writer must not only enjoy the constant practice of his/her craft but must also be meticulously aware of his/her own flaws and avid in his/her pursuit of fixing those foibles.
There are many other interesting parallels betweens musicians and writers, but in the interest of both brevity and bandwidth, I shall leave those tidbits for others to discover—discovery is the essence of artistic enjoyment.
I already know that I'll have to work on my figure and life drawing skills. I'm not just taking animation because I think it will be cool. I've researched the courses.

While were on the subject of college majors that may or may not work- has anyone had any experience with sort of an "art for advertising" major? Like, someone who designs publicity art for advertising campaigns? (not just the graphic design part, but sort of a "creative director") I'm really interested in doing something in that field, but I'm not exactly sure how I'd major in that.
A friend of mine is doing something like that freelance (though he is going to school for it) and he says it sucks. You're at the mercy of what the companies want and they want unreasonable things like "elegant, but with lots of primary colors!"
