RAM question

Okay, I need some more RAM for my comp., I have a Dell Dimension 8200, that according to the manual, and from what another website or two say, only supports RAM in an RDRAM format.Only problem is RDRAM is way overpriced for the size I need, ($400+).I've seen SDRAM for really great prices on a couple of other websites for under $100 (1GB).Is their anyway I can get this SDRAM format to work on my computer or am I going to be forced to invest a small fortune to upgrade my memory?

You probably need the RDRAM if you have an older P4. Newer P4s use DDR/DDR2.

Run through the memory upgrade script @ www.crucial.com as it will give you a better idea of what you need.

fuck. I hope they are wrong. Guess I need to call the Dell Hotline or something tomorrow to see what the deal is.

Why in the hell would a format like RDRAM even be needed? Especially if its hard to find? Why wasnt DDR good enough for Dell? cockbiters.

I'm assuming there is nothing I can do in my BIOS to fight the power either if I try force feeding my computer the DDR?

I don't think it's the fault of Dell, it's the fault of the shitty early Pentium 4 machines. Newer ones (with HT) AFAIK use DDR2 ram. It can't be fixed with software.

Yea, I have the same problem, had to bite the bullet and get RDRAM.

Would I be better off just buying a new processor and then the DDR RAM? Even that would be cheaper than the 1 GIG of RDRAM

I got 512 megs for $110 for the slowest type of RDRAM, which I believe is 600mhz and what my comp supports. Pricewatched it.

It's @ $420 for the 1 Gig setup. You could get a new laptop for a little bit more than that. :eep:

My parent's dimension took RDRAM, I saw the price and decided to make my own machine...

It's that bad.
