At least they were a threat. I don't think I have ever died by a enemy in a mario game unless it was a boss or one of those unavoidable enemies that you have to watch and time to get past themQuote:

The older Mario series had tough enemies which got in your way. End of story. Maybe they were just easier for you. The only time I felt threatened by Sonic's enemies was because I was worried I'd hit one and lose all the rings I'd collected....
The way I see it, a new Mario game would be great if it actually played like a Mario game. Mario 64 was a great game, and it spawned the 3D platformer, but it had no mushrooms, no fire flower, etc.... I want it in 3D, and playing like an old SMB game. This New SMB looks cool, but it's not quite what I mean (although I think it'll be great). Heck, even if it was something that controlled like Luigi's Mansion where it was 3D, but limited in some movement (like last boss), and was a platformer, it could be cool.
We need the Super Mario 3 to Mario 64. Super Mario 3 was SMB, but loaded with stuff. Completely packed with levels and suits and all kinds of stuff that complemented the game mechanics, not replaced them. That's what i want out of a new Mario, take what they did in Mario64 and just jack it up like mad. But KEEP IT MARIO. Fludd was shitty.Quote:

You can't have a 3D version of a 2D Mario game. That's why 64 was a collect 'em up. That seems to be what Nintendo is trying to change with this new mysterious Revolution Power Glove. Maybe they should either re-invent 2D with the Revolution (I reckon it's possible) or just accept the fact that 3D 'platformers' can't be like the old 2D ones and move on.
Great to hear that Mario is most likely a launch game for Revolution.
I thought Mario Sunshine was great when it first came out, but after beating it, taking a two year break from it, then playing through Super Mario 64 again and then going back to Sunshine for a second spin, well, the game is a POS in my opinion. The missions are stupid, the fluid is an excuse for weak level design and controls that don't compare to Mario 64, the enemies suck.... Just so much is wrong with the game compared to Mario 64.
I have high hopes that Nintendo has learned from their mistakes, but I guess we'll see.

Sad considering that the Mario games are some of my favorite games of all time.
The first crash bandicoot when I played it felt more like a mario game, than mario 64 did for me, just by the fact that it was a platformer at heart still. So yes, a 2D platformer can be made in 3D.Quote:
