I just modded my N64, ghetto style

I finally tracked down a copy of Bangaioh for a reasonable price (50 bucks), then realized I forgot to get an adapter. The game was staring at me, I needed to play it, what was I to do???? I reached into my pocket, lit up my zippo, and held a screwdriver in the flame for a few minutes then stuck it into the cartridge slot of the n64 to melt those tabs!

My N64 now has really ugly melted plastic where the tabs were in the cartridge port, and there's heat warping/melted plastic around the opening near the flaps, but Bangaioh fits in there now and plays!


Has anyone else modded their N64 by melting the tabs like that? I've only heard of getting a gamebit screwdriver to open the system up then using a razor to take out the tabs.

I used a soldering iron to melt mine, but I was much more careful. It's completely undetectable unless you press the flap down and look down inside.

We don't all have fancy luxury items available to us on a whim like "soldering irons"...........

Mine doesn't look too bad with the flaps up, I don't think you'd notice anything was wrong with it unless you were checking out the flap specifically. On the inside it looks like a celebrity pedaphile's face though.

Oh yeah, are there any games worth importing for N64 other than Bangaioh and Sin & Punishment?

Those are the two I modded it to play. There are a couple others, but it's been so long since I have cared that I am forgetting what they were.

I thought I was the only one silly enough to use a soldering iron to melt the tabs. Unfortunately I didn't have the steadiest hand, so yeah my N64 looks like crap (but Sin and Punishment feels like heaven!). At least I have the excuse that I was 13 at the time though. :sweat:

I thought about melting the tabs but didn't want to try. Instead I unscrewed it using a regular screwdriver to remove the whole plastic catch, which took some ungodly amount of time (I think it was like three to five hours or something) and I never put the screws back in. Nintendo screws are the devil.

You can get the screws out with the end of a shitty pen. That is what I did to get the screws out of my chrono trigger cart.

I used a dremel on mine back when I got Bangaioh in 1843.

arent they just torx screws like the xbox has?
