Controller modding

Ok so I get this official pad to play SF collection on my xbox and was hoping at least for the shoulder buttons to have ppp or kkk command input, but no... capcom skipped out on us pad users YET AGAIN and left us out in the cold with cramped fingers.

I WANT TO CHANGE THAT!

My plan (should I get the help) is to set this up so that those buttons will work as seperate ppp/kkk commands. I know nothing about how to solder wires on these things, let alone know where to start connecting point A to B from. If I could get some help here, I'd really appreciate it.

Also I'm thinking of doing the same for a saturn pad so I can play SFZ and get some practice on some Gen skills.

None of the soldering is that hard. If you look at the circuit board you can tell where the buttons are. Most that I have seen are two halves to complete a circle for each button. One half is the ground the other is that buttons control. I would assume that you could make 3 leads(one from each button) and tie them all into 1 of the shoulder buttons so you could make them all "switch" when you press that shoulder button.

On that note I would recommend looking stuff up with google. Someone might have a step by step that tells you how to do this very thing. I would be shocked if there wasn't one already available.

Again, I'm just assuming that what I stated above would work. Don't do anything until you do a little research. Also, buy a soldering iron from your local Radio Shack(15 watt I believe) and a empty circuit board and some spare wires so you can practice soldering in the mean time. It's quite easy to solder.

Good luck on the soldering job, but I'm not surprised that Capcom didn't go the x3 route for button presses. If you remember previous Capcom home ports (like PSX Street Fighter Alpha 3), the x3 button press was an in-game option. I don't recall off-hand of any controller that offered the option to have x3 assigned to one button (unless it was programmed in a macro). In SFAC, Capcom doesn't give you the option to reassign the shoulder buttons (really, really stupid), let alone change them to x3. It was more Capcom's fault for a lazy controller scheme than what they did with the Xbox controller.

Sounds like what you're going to do is difficult because you have to solder three button connections to one button in addition to the standard 1-to-1 relationship between a button and the controller circuit board. If the desire to have a controller that does x3 to one button is so strong, why don't you just try to hunt down the Nubytech SFAC stick? You'll be able to do x3 easily, and you won't have to render your Capcom controller useless for other games that don't need the x3 functionality. It's backordered from EB, but you might be able to hunt it down locally or get it off eBay.

I suppose I could get one of those, but how the hell am I supposed to play on a stick anyways?

Btw, didn't Bahn have an artical on sticks over at his site awhile back? I've been looking for ages now and I still can't seem to find it.

There is a learning curve on using a stick to play fighting games if you've never used one before, but you will become accustomed (and maybe even prefer it over a control pad) after a week of practicing.

In Google, I typed 'arcade stick site:www.got-next.com' and it came up on the second link. Use the site command along with a website URL if you're looking for a term within a specific website.

The method proposed by Glass Joe won't work.
If you try to just connect all three, then whenever you press any of those buttons, you'll get PPP or KKK.
You need to use diodes to filter the leads.

Thanks for clearing that up. That is exactly why I said I was assuming. I'm great with following directions with soldering. I'm not so great at figuring it out myself. Thanks again.
