I agree with what Nadler said. Oh and I don't think we need an amendment to protect the flag. That would be gay and silly.

Just how big a problem is flag burning? This seems silly to me, and a waste of Congress' (supposedly) valuable time. The flag isnt about a big piece of cloth, its about what it represents.

Ask the guy standing on the WTC, and he'd tell you to get the motherfuckers behind the attack, not the ones setting a lighter to the stars and stripes.

Just buy a mask.

There is no way you can shit on the flag,burn it, then turn around and say you love america and what it represents.

The wonderfull thing about America is that it protects those who profess to dislike it as equally as it does those who proclaim all that it does is within god's will. Telling people to "leave if you don't like it," is quite contrary to the American way.

Not that I personally care for flag burning or any such thing. I don't think this is a proper use of congresses time. Burning the flag is saying, "I hate America," or perhaps, "American Flags are THIS flamable." Does this outlaw saying, "I hate America," or does it simply prohibit demonstrations of flag combustability? I think it's best for America to remain the higher, "Burn it if you want to, few other places give you such a liberty," minded entity.

I don't agree with either side, really, but if I had to choose, then I'd side with those who view flag burning as free speech.

Listen, I can't recall a time when I agreed with anyone who burnt a flag, and truthfully, I agree with Avatar in that if you don't agree with what the U.S. does, then get out or offer solutions instead of complaining.... I'm sure there's plenty of other countries that truly give half a fuck about being decent and upright. However, this anti-burning bill reeks of INGSOC, and I see a Pandora's Box that the Government would hold. I think that flag burning is bullshit so far, as I've yet to see anything in my lifetime where the U.S. was clearly in the wrong and a protest such as desecrating the flag would be a necessary display of disgust.

I think that protesters should have the right to protest by burning the flag, and I should have the right to express my disapproval of such protesters by, I dunno, burning a picture or effigy or whatever of something they like. If Tom Morello, for instance, wants to burn a flag, then fine... Let me be able to burn (my own) Rage Against the Machine album or CCCP flag. Or let me be able to kindly shout that such a protester is a Commie dumb fuck. My old man and I were talking about this today, and he thought that if someone wants to burn the flag, the cops should look away...

I'm not saying the U.S. is perfect by any means, and we have indeed done some shady things... but the truth of the matter is, no other nation in history has shown the mercy or grace that we do. I know of no other nation that would not only rebuild and modernize the cities that we gain victory in, but who also strive to create a stable government and economy for said defeated state, then make every effort to leave. Japan, anyone? The only nation I can even think that would improve the quality of life for a defeated country and allow them to have their own customs/practices was Old Rome, and they still heavily occupied a territory.
