Growlanser official appreciation thread
Far, far back on a console long ago there came a strategy RPG like no other, this game was godly and was blessed with the beautiful art of a man known as Satoshi Urushihara it redefined strategy RPG's as we know them... the game was Langrisser and the rest was history. Fast forward to June 18, 1998 Langrisser V "The End of Legend" is released and all are saddened by this turn of events, will we lose one of the greatest strategy RPG's ever known?!
The year is now 1999 and another Langrisser game is released and hopes are high, but this ended up being a big disappointment, the game was Langrisser Millennium and was released on the Sega Dreamcast by a different team then the original series created by Career Soft, the end result was a game that sorely lost all the magic done in the previous ones :(
What became of our beloved original Langrisser development team Career Soft, did they fall it to a pit never to be heard from again… NO! The news quickly spread of a new game being developed by this great team and under the much beloved company Atlus a new game would be born, something called Growlanser for the Sony Playstation.
With the towns people excited by this news all hope and joy spread across the land once again, we were to be blessed once again in the form of this new game Growlanser. This was truly a beautiful strategy RPG that while not completely like Langrisser it held a lot in common with it, like beautiful 2D graphics, cool character designs, an epic story and of coarse Satoshi Urushihara artwork :) Growlanser was indeed a strategy RPG, but unlike Langrisser’s strategy heavy system Growlanser actually blended a much easier and more action orientated battle system called "Real-time Missions Clearance System", a truly ominous feat to behold.
The Growlanser series was a success, so much so that it garnished 2 more games respectively called Growlanser II: The Sense of Justice and Growlanser III: The Duel Darkness on Playstation 2. All was good for strategy RPG fans or was it… the fact is only the Japanese gaming community where blessed with these games, the USA strategy thrived community only had gotten one game in the Langrisser series that was called Warsong and was released on the Sega Genesis way back in 1991 and we never received another out of the 5 that where released and no Growlanser games whatsoever :(
The year is 2002, the month is May, the day is the 22nd, the outcome is apparent… history will be changed!
News line: Working Designs picks up the rights to publish both Growlanser II: The Sense of Justice and Growlanser III: The Duel Darkness, gamers everywhere rejoice, finally justice has been served.
Now that the beauty of Growlanser will be bestowed upon the American public what will become of us, how will the masses deal with such a big event… while not an easy task I suggest these sites to help with this transition, read wisely and come to know that heaven awaits us in the form of Growlanser.
Growlanser II: The Sense of Justice
Growlanser III: The Duel Darkness
