Been looking at this one for a long time, and got my hands on a little extra cash this week.
I'm looking for the boards impressions of this game; and if it's worth the price-tag...
Thank you

Definitely one of Treasure's coolest.
MAKE THE PLUNGE!! You won't be disappointed.
Try out the ROM, see for yourself. It's so damn hard, Gunstar Heroes is much better and cheaper.
Which version, Japanese or PAL? Also how much is the price-tag, the Japanese version is higher priced then the PAL one.
Alien Soldier is brilliant, go for it. It's much harder and much faster than Gunstar Heroes. If you like the idea of 25 short levels with ultra fast gameplay and 25 of the best videogame bosses ever then go for it. As you can tell from my avatar, I love the game :)
I played this game emulated once and I wondered why everyone spoke so highly of it. I think I need to check this out again,it's been a while. Maybe you should do the same before you drop a ton of cash on a game you never played. Just a thought.
Go for it! I have the game, and it is definitely cool! Get the JPN version because the PAL version has a glitch near the end level. It's just a graphical glitch, but it doesn't interfere with the gameplay. ^_^
Epsilon is just too cool for words!
Thanks fellas. I'll take it into consideration.
Do you need a converter to play it? I have my genesis running without the shell on it, so I just wanted to know if I'd need a converter still...
Can someone tell me how to beat the first boss within the time limit? I can even do it in easy mode.....:(
Three words:
Too...........damn.............expensive.
It's good, and I'd gladly pay $50-$60 for it now, but the usual asking price is just plain nutty.
And AES carts aren't?Quote:

Anyway, Alien Soldier is pretty damn difficult. I'd like to own it someday (the Jap NTSC rev) if I can find it. Probably worth the cash if you like run 'n gun shooters.
xS: Try using the Hunter Force and Buster Force while in Fixed-fire mode. Watch his patterns and you should be able to beat him.
I can get about three older AES carts for the price of Alien Soldier. In fact, I just bought Magician Lord, Blue's Journey, and Cyber-Lip for $120 all complete.Quote:

I'm not very into the game, so perhaps that's influenced my judgement, but I still think it's too expensive.
Phoenix dash it, keeping firing with buster. When it fires at you catch the attack to turn it into health then do another phoenix dash. That should kill it really fast.Quote:

Alien Soldier may cost a lot of money on Jap Mega Drive but like sleeveboy says, so are AES carts and in my opinion Alien Soldier is better than any Neo Geo game. You really get your moneys worth as the game very hard and very fast. By far my favourite 'run and gun' game, the set pieces and boss battles can't be beaten.
Alien Soldier is an excellent Run & Gun game... i like it more than Gunstar Heroes... worth the asking price? well, maybe...
Yes an excellent game , but I prefer contra the hardcops
my advice: dont waste your money. no disrespect meant to treasure or Alien Soldier (it is good), but there are more economic, just as awesome, gaming possibilities out now for much cheaper. you could buy a new console for that much money. and if you really wanted, im sure everyone on this board would be glad to help you think of some cheap, old school action games.
OR if you are totally sold on spending lots of money on a game youve never played AT LEAST buy Metal Slug 3 :)
Yeah, it's indeed that damn good! You'll know you have a winner when you see the intensity and mood of even the WEAPON SELECT SCREEN! This game owns all. Also, the Xi Tiger Transformation is perfect....easily the most freaky growl I've ever heard from a video game.Quote:

One of my dream games: Alien Soldier 2: The Return ( Dreamcast, 2-D )
Alien Soldier is a wonderful game and fairly unique even today. Even though it pushes the Genny both graphically and aurally, the one thing that stands out is the control. Ep is best character I've ever controlled in a game, his dash and the counter force are brillant. I love it and was more than happy to put down the cash for it. *-neo
So..uhh...how bout' that converter question?
And this is where opinions come into play, as I feel that Alien Soldier whoops Metal Slug 3, but I prefer fast frentic action over slower paced action (is "slow action" an oxymoron?).Quote:

I've played PLENTY of Slug 3, as a friend owns it...
What I don't know is: Do I need a converter?!?!?
By the way Mech, Rakugaki is a really fun game. The art is just great.
Yes, the art in Rakugaki is incredible, I love so much of the designs! Unfortunately, it's one of only a few Treasure games I haven't played, because of its high asking price coupled with no chance at trying it in emulation means I simply haven't tried it yet. But I will... hopefully soon.
I remember you saying that in my eBay wackyness thread, and just wanted to give you another heads-up on it. :)
Same here.Quote:

I use a converter cart called the "Super Mega Key". It lets you play games from all regions. You can find it at www.videogamedepot.com from time-to-time. I brought it a while back and it was $50, but you should be able to find it now for around $35. Works perfectly.Quote:

The best boss by far is the girl who keeps transforming. Damn that was hard! So much better than Green during stage 2 of Gunstar Heroes. I love the speed in Alien Soldier, which is something sorely lacking from Gunstar Heroes (very sluggish IMO) and the boss design pisses on GH and C:HC. I even love the music from the first few levels, it really captures the mood of a fast paced shooting game.
Buy a convertor or a Japanese MD to run the game. Only the really old Mega Drive games don't require one generally.

That's her name too...I swear.
Hey Sidez, I guess nows a good time to tell you how much ass your avatar kicks! :D
How would you have felt about a sequel to Alien Soldier ( in 2-D ) on Dreamcast?
Seven Force- You could be right on this one, I can only remember 5 of her transformations right now though.
FighterX- Judging by what Treasure are producing as of late i'd rather they didn't ;) I really like Ikaruga's music and visual style though so i'm down for an any format (PS2 would be ideal though I guess) Alien Soldier game so long as it keeps the anime visual style. I really hate what KCET have done with the new Contra.
Green, Seven Force, same thing.:pQuote:

Are there any more Gunstar cameos or any other type of cameos in Alien Soldier?
No, get the PAL version. It can be had for a very reasonable price (I've seen it go for around $40 on Ebay). The Japanese version is ridiculously expensive.Quote:

It seems then that the PAL version is the way to go. $40 seems like a reasonable price to me, considering that I would also need a converter. Spending almost $200 on one game + converter is too rich for my blood, regardless what game it is.
Aside from the graphical glitch, what other differences are there? I assume the PAL version is in English, no? That would be a plus, knowing what the story is all about and such.
Well, being a Treasure game and all, the story doesn't make one iota of sense to begin with, even if you can understand the language. There really isn't much of a story to begin with, and the intro is really out there.
A little clarification never hurt!:DQuote:

By the way, Melon Bread, the "face" boss Black's Stage in Gunstar Heroes is in Alien Soldier too.
(Are you going to say "Melon Bread, the face, same thing.:p "?)
No, I won't say it, but it is my new sig.Quote:
