Comeback candidate: Kid Chameleon

I was just thinking about Kid Chameleon. That was one of my favourite Genesis games. I have not played it in ages and I don't think I ever beat the game, tho' I surely came close. I need to go back and finish the deed I think.

Anyway, I think it would be a great game to bring back. I could see a new game being made for GBA, being very similar to the first game. I could also see a really cool game being made for GCN/XB/PS2 as well. You could make it a 3D puzzle/action platformer. The different helmets could be a great thing to base puzzles around. Also, the whole "trapped in an arcade" game motif might look really really cool with modern technology.

The main character model would need some design updating though. Hehe. :p

Thoughts?

Updating? A kid with big-ass sunglasses like that? And didn't he have a black leather jacket as well? Hell no, he needs to keep that! A good shot of eighties coolness on a tiny kid, that friggin' rocks (waiting for Lucas to show up with his avatar)!

I also need to go beat this game. So damned hard and long, like a friggin'... nevermind.

I agree completely. Lots of untapped potential in Kid Chameleon. I think GameCube would be the system of choice (I'd really like to see a console version, rather than a half-hearted 2D rehash, and what they could do with it in 3D).

Although I hate the character in his "cool dude" form, The game is damn good. It's possibly the best American attempt at the mascot-platform genre.

If Sega announced a 3D update of this game, I would go out and preorder it immediatly.


Just think, a 3D ShikaBoss or Plethora.



What a great game, and I have yet to legitimetly complete the game.

I did come very close at one time, but the game can get...overwhelming towards the end.

This game has what, 70 levels and no password? I distinctly remember losing more than a few controllers to this game. If they did an update, it would have to have that same "whip you to your little bitch knees" difficulty or I wouldn't buy it. :)

I beat Kid Chameleon several times when I was a kid (either 'legitimately' without skipping a level, or using the secret warp in 1-2 in World 1 that goes to Plethora, or the warp in World 2 that goes directly to World 4 iirc), but never in one sitting. I had to leave the game on Pause and turn off my TV so I could get some sleep already! The game was too damn long to not have a backup or a password system.

Otherwise, KC was an excellently-designed game from start to finish. The game was difficult, but definitely not as tough as any given Mario game imo. The assortment of powerups (which include but are not limited to the masks and the special powers you can activate after collecting 50 gems, depending on which mask you have donned) set it apart from other simple Mario knock-offs. Maniaxe--heh, I just called him "Jason". I don't think I ever knew the names of the masks--was just too fun to play with, plus his special power yielded an extra life.

If they make a Kid Chameleon sequel, they had better make the game long as hell, just like the original. That's what made the game so appealing, and dare I say it, ominous.

kid cameleon was hard and alittle repetitive. When I first saw it I thought it was a rip off of the costume theme mario had in super mario brothers 3, he had 8 or 9 costumes in that game too.

Some costumes were useless and you ended up running more than fighting, the costumes where there just to help you run a way alittle better. Sure some of the early costumes helped you fight, like maniaxe, but after a few levels you never saw those costumes much. Instead you got that fly outfit and had to jump climb up walls with much trial and error, or you got that weird spinning one where you had to vertically fly upwards and brake bricks.

What really bugged me was all the bosses were different variations of the same four giant heads . . .

I don't want to see another sequeal.

Most people here have pretty much echoed my feelings on the game. I am glad it was not just me who never finished the game.

I would play it for hours on end and make so much progress and do so well, then die at the end of the game. I think I may have made it to the last boss a few times... but it's so hard to practice beating a boss when it takes forever to reach him. I honestly do not remember if I ever won the game. I may have but I don't remember it.

For those of you who did win the game, could you make an estimate for how long you think it took you? I am really curious now.

Anyway, like I originally said. I think this game would be a really nice one to update. I would be happy to see either a portable or console version. :)

I think everyone knows how I feel about this one, so I'll just say to each his/her own.
