I never said your ancestors benefited, I said mine did. If yours came from a non-colonial power then maybe you can make such a claim, but much of the Western world can't. Regardless of your ancestors however, your economy does benefit today.

Yes, Africa is worse off today, but we don't do as much as we think we do to help the situation. We up and left after the colonial period without repairing the damage, and that has cascaded down to today. We knowingly buy the precious comodities that fuel civil strife and exploit workers, and allow our cheap weapons to flow across their borders. We continue to protect our markets from the bulk of their agrarian produce so they can't possibly earn a living, while simulaneously taking advantage of the fact that they can't protect their markets from our goods. We claim to hand out billions in aid, but most of that never materializes and whatever we do actually deliver is does little good and is much less than what we unfairly make off them through trade barriers. If we insist that they help themselves, how 'bout we stop picking their pockets in the process?

And I'm not altogether white, nor did I say it was 'all whitey's fault', so please address my arguments more accurately.

When they covered Live 8, it should just have been the concert itself and maybe a little bit of brief talk about the African situation. There shouldn't be any cutting to hosts, reporters, fans and other non-performing people, or Brad Pitt.

If this thing was about awareness regarding African nations in crisis, it should have been commercial free. I couldn't have given a damn less about Taco Hell than I did at the moment.

I read what he was saying. He said that the Africans are dying of AIDS because of evolution (read: they deserve it), that Europeans and Americans shouldn't feel the slightest bit bad about completely fucking the continent up the ass for hundreds of years, that the Africans are unable to run their own countries and should in fact be happy that Europeans and Americans raped their country for so long because of that.

Edit: I'm fucking done with this thread. Some of you make me sick. It's real easy to sit inn your wealthy first world nation and look down on a nation that is killing itself in large part because they were oppressed, raped, killed, and enslaved by white (yeah, I said white, deal with it motherfucker) people. I know you believe in personal responsibility, adn pulling yourself up by your bootstraps, and all kinds of other nonsense that doesn't apply to Africa, but when you live in a disease infested, poverty stricken country and are surrounded by violence and famine sometimes that shit ain't so easy. So try to find a little compassion when looking down your nose at a continent that has never been given a chance to run itself until recently. And yeah they ain't doing such a hot job of it, but it's not like they've been given any kind of time to get shit right.

If we keep handing Africa everything, when will it ever grow up and move out of the basement?

I say we let its children die until it finally learns the hard way and pulls itself up by its bootstraps, just like America did - by enslaving white people to handle its industrial labour until their economy's grown large enough they don't have to anymore.

It's the right thing to do.

We all know that Europe raped Africa (youd have to be incredibly ignorant to believe otherwise), but you know what, Europe also raped Asia, especially China. And now look where Asia is on the global scene. And, again - in the 1960s, Taiwan and South Korea were at the very least as poor as any of the Sub-Saharan African nations.

Im all for helping Africa, but Africa isnt gonna get anywhere until it wants to help itself, too. The stench of corruption and evil that emanates from virtually all governments in sub-Saharan Africa shows to me that the place will continue to be the same shithole it has been, no matter how many concerts are thrown or how many Western checks are signed.

Good point. They smell like evil. We shouldn't do anything.
