Which one requires effort? Metroid Prime Hunters controls just fine. If you'd spent 10-20 minutes with it - Ie. gotten through the whole demo 2-3 times, instead of 30 seconds in EB while some fat kid with a Pokemon backpack is drooling on your sleeve, the control scheme would feel second nature. It pretty much exactly replicates digital movement and mouselook. Unless I'm some kind of stylus god because I can whip straight through it without getting hit.

The touchscreen is not a gimmick. Heck, most or all alternative controllers (eg, light guns) are not gimmicks, but they are seldom used because few own them. Incorporating an alternative input device into the unit was a good idea. It hasn't been revolutionary so far, but it's still very early.

Actually playing the games and seeing them move in a playing environment. The screens shown of DS games haven't done justice to them, and this has been said by folks other than me, so the usual "well, Jeremy said it, so it can't be true" logic here doesn't apply.

Super Mario 64 was originally designed as a 3D game. Very simple polygons and textures.
Resident Evil 1 was originally a prerendered game. Really high quality backgrounds (which, in full 3D, would mean really high-res textures) and really complex structures (which, in full 3D, would mean a lot of polygons). It was all totally possible on PSX because it was pre-rendered, like Final Fantasy VII, but it wouldnt be possible in real 3D on an N64.
This is going no where. When Capcom develops this game and proves it's not impossible. Just remeber this.
Just becuase you haven't seen anyone do itor you can't do it yourself doesn't mean it's impossible.

As much as I'd like to say otherwise, nothing I've seen on DS so far says it can pull off DC level graphics.
Silent Hill is probably a really good example of the minimum of what this game will end up looking like. And that game had as much atmosphere as just about anything ever, so every one can quit doubting already.

As an aside,
The concensus amongst most devs I've talked to is that the DS scores somewhere between the PS1 and the N64. Greater triangle pushing power than the N64 but much less than the PS1. Better pixel processing* than the PS1 but much less than the N64.
But, in my mind, far and away the worst decision Nintendo ever made was to put two seperate screens on the thing. It's a significant handicap technically.

The touchscreen and analogue stick shouldn't be seen as...uh...analogous. Mario 64 DS proved the touchscreen wasn't an great substitute for it. I'm sure you could put together a better scheme than that which would work, but in general the screen & stick do different things.
I love seeing topics being derailed in one form or another to what seems to the be the one of a few of the same arguements in every single thread on TNL.
I think I'll start making a game of it, click on threads more than two pages and saying, "This one is about Nintendo sucking!" or "This one has people creaming their pants for the 360!" or maybe even "This thread is about how much EA sucks!"
Has anyone else begun looking at 3 or more page threads and decided that they are not going to click because at the end it's never going to be about whatever topic was originally posted?
