Do people still visit Drive-in theaters?

With War of the Worlds out now I've had a yearning for the drive-in experience. According to this website I've got 2-3 about an hour and a 1/2 away from where I live. While I never thought I'd go that far out of my way to watch a movie, I still want to see what this "slice of Americana" is like.

Most of them seem like a pretty good deal. Admissions seem to average about 6.50 and just about all of them are double features (!!!). The theater I have my eye on has Batman Begins playing with War of the Worlds and on the second screen they have Fantastic 4 followed by Charlie and the Choco Factory. Food seems pretty cheap too. A shame there aren't any closer ones to NYC.

So anyone else ever visit one recently?

The last drive in theater in Toronto closed about 10 years ago, got paved over and turned into 2 seperate mulitplexs. We have one in the Barrie area, but I haven't felt the need to go to one. I probably would if it were closer, but it's about a 20 minute drive, and damned close to redneck country.

I honestly didnt even know they still existed. The last time I went to a Drive-In movie was back when I was a wee brat , and I'm pretty sure we saw a re-release showing off Star Wars:ANH like in '81...so yeah...quite a while back....

We have two close by. One with the standard speakers that you attach to your car door and one that allows you to tune into the movie on your radio (which is cool because any time you drive close by you can always pick up the movie) which I always thought was pretty cool the first time I used it. I actually like Drive-Ins because of the whole double feature element and the fact that most of them are so cheap. Can't beat sitting in the back of your truck on a warm summer night either.

Theaters still win though, simply because the setup is always better.

2 of them in my area, farthest one away is about 20 minutes, closest one about 10. The one closest to me usually does TRIPLE features for like 8 dollars I think. Last time I saw the board for the shows it was War of the Worlds, Batman Begins and Sahara (which is several months old). They always have some older movie in the triples. The other one is just double features.

There's one left around here about 10 min from my place. Haven't been there in a while now. Back in high school we used to go all the time. Mainly becauce we could smoke pot or drink all the way through both movies. I also got my first BJ at that drive in... good times man.

It's not going to be there much longer though. Some supermarket chain bought the land and is going to tear it down this winter (I think, maybe next winter). Maybe I'll give it another go before the summer is up.

EH...there is one that's 15 mins from my area located in Mississauga. Its not bad. I got dragged to it a few weeks ago. It was not bd as they showed two movies back to back...

I have one like 18 minutes away. I've maybe been twice.

I used to live really close to a drive-thru theatre. So close I could watch from a window. I did it eevry freaking night until my mom found out and made me switch rooms.

Then we moved so my free movies were gone.
