Desperate Escape has been, err, escaped by John and I on Professional.
Let me tell you, that shit was Not a Joke. But it was Rad.
Anyone want to co op the DLC tonight?
Motivated by Diff's positive recent impressions, I decided to give this game its third and final chance. This one has been expensive for me. I bought it day one for 360 and couldn't get into. I bought it day one for PC, largely spurred on by the fact that it was one of the few 3D ready games when I first got my setup, but I couldn't get into it. Now, on PS3 with the Gold Edition's Move support, I'm into it. I think I played further in a single sitting last night than I had reached with either prior version. Like RE4 on the Wii, which was also a third time's the charm scenario, the pointer controls saved the game for me.
There are still irritating things, like the pseudo co-op, which ironically is part of the reason I got fed up with Epic Mickey 2 and decided to turn this on in the first place. I lost an S-Rank on the second chapter because Sheva decided to get a tan in the blast chamber for example.
Now, the downside of how well the Move setup works is that it makes Capcom's lazy ass decision to not support it with the PSN port of RE4 that much more irritating. Plus, I am sure they'll take the same lazy route with Revelations, despite the fact that the ability to move while pointer aiming would have been amazing. Thankfully, RE6 plays much more like a third person shooter, so the same issues aren't prevalent there, though it certainly wouldn't have hurt either.
In a glowing example of how quality and sales are not even correlated, let alone causal, this has passed Street Fighter II as Capcom's highest selling game ever. They might be my most purchased Capcom games as well, as I had to buy this damn thing four times to find a version I'd finish, while I've had SFII on just about every platform I've ever owned.
Resident Evil 5 is a good game, though.
RE5 selling more than SF2 is like Titanic outgrossing Gone With the Wind. It's a different world now. SF2 SNES didn't have 10 different ports, $5 sales, free-with-membership offers, etc.
RE5 is probably the worst numbered game in the series. Granted, Resident Evil is like pizza but still. I wonder if "Street Fighter II" is to be taken literally or if all iterations count. If it's the latter, there's a lot more than 10 different ports, and it's been included in lots of $5 sales and offers.
This is just more boring Capcom PR bullshit. Even combining only SF2 and Turbo breaks 10 million.
I haven't finished 6 yet. That's why I said "probably." 5 is definitely worse than 1-4 and Revelations though. At least the first version of 6 I bought is playable.
