Anyone down for mercs or starting a veteran run through?
You still wanna do the runthrough?
I definitely will, but most likely not tonight anymore. I'm about to watch myself some Locked Up Abroad.
Any tips on how to handle Professional mode? It's f'in hard. I have unlimited ammo for the most powerful magnum, shotgun, and sniper rifle, but the fact that a generic Majini can kill me with one successful attack makes this almost impossible.
I haven't played online at all yet. Would someone be willing to do Professional with me?
This is the first game on the 360 where I've started obsessing over achievements--I really like this one, addictive, fun, and beautiful.
For one thing, don't use the most powerful magnum, it's too slow. Use the second magnum since it shoots almost as fast as a pistol and will still kill almost everything in one shot.
Playing it online doesn't actually help alot aside from a few boss fights. You bleed out so fast that if you're not standing next to each other at all times you don't have enough time to revive after a hit.
bbobb--I've got all the weapons in my inventory: They're ordered from weak to strongest and by type, correct? Just to save the confusion, what's the model name for the second magnum?
Thanks!
The Eagle, I think.
The L Hawk.
I am going to start my Professional run tonight. Hopefully it won't be too bad.
So I have been working with my roommate to get all the achievements. We are doing well and I'm proud of our progress I am curious though has anyone unlocked professional yet? I'm curious on to how hard it is I believe if you get hit you die? But is your partner able to pick you up? or is it game over death? On a side note Sheva's 3rd costume is hot :)
Your energy drains very quickly, so sometimes it's impossible for a partner to pick you up from Danger (especially if they have a slow ass spray).
It's really not that hard because the game is not that hard. Professional makes you weaker but bosses don't necessarily get stronger. Unlock the unlimited rocket launcher and you can kill every boss in one hit.
Every boss.
PS - 1000/1000 ._.
How do you kill Wesker in one hit?
I went to get the Diamond Marquise after the initial bridge collapse. Wesker got close, raised his arm and opened his yellow gem deal on his back.
John shot a rocket at him as he hit me with his arm. My health was down to danger and John had no way of getting to me, so we figured we had to do it again. The game suddenly cut to a loading screen, which we thought was weird. Had I died? Why were we loading?
Next thing we know it was the final quick timer event.
Grats on the 1k/1k. It's been a very long time since I have finished a game to it's fullest and I have been screwed by a few games in the past where i was so close. Army of Two for example I enjoyed the game but the online was so horrifc there was no way I was going to get the billion made playing it. NBA street homecourt....10 wins in a row? Not with your laggy ass servers EA. So I am excited to get 1k for re5.
Don't worry, they'll ruin RE5 soon enough with an online deathmatch and respective achievements.
I am not joking, either.
I still need to get "The Works" for my last couple of achievement points.
Checkout youtube on how to do The Works, takes 2 minutes.
It's really easy to do against the big man majinis, the fat black dudes. Shoot their legs, one -> two -> three.
Yeah, I just need someone to do it with online... although that's only if I get my account back.
Fuck microsoft.
You can do it easily with AI partner. I got it on 2nd try.
Problem is that co-op ups the difficulty and both peeps have to do QTEs... definitely easier with AI. That is hadns down hardest boss in the game and just lame... I'd rather have the option of using my own weapons.
PS3 just got the 1.02 patch -- supposedly for trophies for DLC... I didn't notice anything else.
I have a question! Do you unlock shit at the end of each chapter doing Veteran difficulty? I went to chapter select, started from 1-1, selected Vet and haven't received any messages that I unlocked anything (on 2-1 now). Wanna make sure I didn't waste time by not selecting game+ or some goofy shit like that.
Holy fucking mother of god. Playing on Professional difficulty with the AI partner really expose how bad the AI is. 5-3, the fight with Wesker and Jill was atrocious, the idiot AI partner would run right out in the open and get him/herself killed immediately. I made it past the first part and now have to pull the jewel off of Ellen Degeneres. Shouldn't be as bad as the first half which was ridiculous.
The first time I got to that part I shot her clean in the jewel. It was great.
Mission Accomplished. Professional mode conquered with horrible AI partner. Time to sell this game.
RE5 Versus mode released.
Not available in JAPAN
LOL Japanese people don't get online. Seriously.
I was hoping to hear if it was worth buying, though I have barely played RE5 as is. Haven't even unlocked mercs mode yet.
I wouldn't touch it even if I could get it. Mercs is fun, but those shitty ass controls won't be even remotely fun in versus play.
There's two modes in the DLC. One is competitive Mercs, not PvP.
We like to call competitive mercs "leaderboards". Adding it to a charged download is silly.
$5 to unlock content thats already on the disc? Then to wait a month after release? Fuck you Capcom.
Doesn't make sense. Unlock keys are 108kb. If it was already on the disc, it wouldn't need to be anywhere near a meg. Just code doesn't take up much space at all. Think of all the changes companies make with patches, and they're capped... I forget how much, but well under a meg.
The point is, the DLC is shitty and waste of $$. I have yet to buy any DLC for a Japanese-made game. Coincident? I think not.
LP was fun online
Has anyone tried playing it yet? My roommate and I are thinking about it picking it up. Though I don't know I am worried about it.
timber and i had thought about getting it
I'm gonna get it on PS3, cause it's 5 bucks and I love the game, then again I bought all the disgaea 3 crap that was already on the disc....
bought this last night, played through it straight in one go splitscreen on a huge-ass tv with a good friend. Took 16 hours. Was a lot of fun.Probably not gonna trade it for a while.
oh and 5 hour energy works like a charm.
The game wasn't very challenging, the final boss fight is cake, and the QTE's are so few that they're really jarring and annoying when they do pop up during the cinematics. It was pretty fun though. Not scary at all. It's like Gears of War...maybe with metal gear solid style awful story and controls mixed in, sans stealth.
"Suck on This!"
Sinista and I finished it co-op last night finally too. Fun game but I think I enjoyed RE4 more.
That sounds like one hell of a gaming session. sheeeesh.
We finally finished this over the weekend. Played with a friend, co-op since launch on veteran. We tried to limit it to one level per weekend and crawl at a snail's pace thru each section (and we STILL missed BSAA emblems somehow hah!). Took us 19 hours on the ingame clock - but im gonna say closer to 25-30. I loved it. Im gonna put it side by side with RE4 - the co-op is just too damn fun. Veteran has us hurting on ammo in certain spots, very intense. Not to mention we died a billion times on the last couple bosses.
Mercs seems like a blast. Exploding heads everywhere. The 2nd costumes have Sheva and Chris looking like such assholes. The first cutscene where they change into those costumes on the 2nd playthru is hilarious.
Only 2 things irked me: I wish it was longer. I wonder why they cut back from the amount of environments from RE4? Surely they could have added more areas. They spent a ton of time with the story side, especially with the readable documents and such - but then the game just ends. They could have hinted at what direction things were going to turn as an epilouge. But, nothing in that ending...
I see this game sold very well so thats good. Capcom is just knocking it out of the park. It'll be very interesting to see where the series and story goes from here. Time to replay the earlier games...
I finally beat RE4 so I'm going to open up RE5 and play some this week. I wonder if it's going to take me as long to finish.
On a subsequent playthrough, even if I didn't start with already-beefed-up-weapons, I could probably beat it in 12-13 hours. The first run always has time spent figuring out all the fights, and there were a few sections where we tried to fight when really we should have just been running, especially early on.
It's too bad the vests take up inventory space when they're technically on your person, and it's also too bad they don't stack.
I never finished RE4. I think I'll probably do that now.
This is the first RE game I have ever beaten.
So anyone want to play this sometime?
I think you missed the TNL boat on this one.
well at least I had the friend boat.
I think I might just sell it. I've owned it for about 40 hours.
RE5 isn't very long at all.
I actually like RE5 a lot more than RE4. For some reason, I just couldn't get into RE4. It was just bland to me....it wasn't a horrible game and I did enjoy it at first but I found myself grow tired of it and just wanted the ending to come as fast as possible.
Maybe it's because I'm a huge sucker for the classic PS1 Resident Evil so playing RE5 and seeing some old faces again made me like it even more.
RE5 is the perfect rental.
too bad the blockbuster was closed when we got there. I would have saved 55 bucks.
I bought it for $40 or so used, and sold it for around the same price 3 weeks later. Even better than rental :D
My game freezes every time I host an online match in any mode. Does anyone have any idea what this is all about?
It will just freeze randomly partway through a level or mercenaries.
Stuntman was freezing on a level too but I blamed a shitty disc that was really crapped up from Gamefly. Is my xbox going?
Does the whole Xbox freeze and you have to restart the system or are you just dropping connection? My RE5 loses connection all the time mid-game in mercenaries and it pisses me off. My friend hosts too and it does the same thing. Sometimes the online gets wonky - just like how the Street Fighter IV online goes down from time to time. Might be on Capcom's end.
It's a system freeze. No guide functionality, etc. Need to hard reboot.
I managed to host a game where it didn't happen after I turned off all my torrents, which I forgot I had going. I had to replenish my porn stock, shit was old.
I have to wonder if a dodgy/dropped connection was the cause, but it's weird that it only happened during hosting. I'm perpetually on edge about it these days because everyone's xbox dies, and mine just hasn't yet.
Does anyone want to help me finish Chapter 6 right now? I just want to be done with this game. I'll be online if any of you chaps wanna game.
RED RING
Got it from Gamefly. I'm interested in co-op since the computer is MORONIC. Hit me up bitches.
I'll help you as much as I can if you help me defeat the last two acts in Chapter 6. Hit me up if that's the case.
Ramon, this game is very easy, you shouldn't need any help beating it.
I don't but I want the co-op achievement.
oic
So the PC version is hitting on September 15. There's a benchmark program here to see if your system can handle the game. Ignore the crap about requiring stereoscopic hardware, it works just fine if you have a normal screen.
Gamespot says the controls use the typical shooter WASD+mouse setup, and you can switch weapons like you would in any normal FPS/3PS instead of having to go into the inventory screen. They also say that RE5 will require DirectX 10, but I'm calling bullshit on that since the benchmark program has a DX9 mode.
I'll play co-op
DX9 benchmark runs almost twice as good as DX10 on my 4850, honestly.
Here's hoping they kinda gimp the mouse and that it doesn't lead some super accurate wiimotex2 action.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to finally crack on nVidia's 3D Vision for this. Apparently Fallout 3 and Left 4 Dead are also amazing with those.
Resident Evil 5: Alternative was announced at TGS to use Sony's motion controller. Considering how much the Wii control helped RE4, this could be worth watching. Although it's going to be tough to go back from the gorgeous PC version.
VERSUS SUCKS
FUCK ACHIEVEMENTS
Desperate Escape has been, err, escaped by John and I on Professional.
Let me tell you, that shit was Not a Joke. But it was Rad.
Anyone want to co op the DLC tonight?
Motivated by Diff's positive recent impressions, I decided to give this game its third and final chance. This one has been expensive for me. I bought it day one for 360 and couldn't get into. I bought it day one for PC, largely spurred on by the fact that it was one of the few 3D ready games when I first got my setup, but I couldn't get into it. Now, on PS3 with the Gold Edition's Move support, I'm into it. I think I played further in a single sitting last night than I had reached with either prior version. Like RE4 on the Wii, which was also a third time's the charm scenario, the pointer controls saved the game for me.
There are still irritating things, like the pseudo co-op, which ironically is part of the reason I got fed up with Epic Mickey 2 and decided to turn this on in the first place. I lost an S-Rank on the second chapter because Sheva decided to get a tan in the blast chamber for example.
Now, the downside of how well the Move setup works is that it makes Capcom's lazy ass decision to not support it with the PSN port of RE4 that much more irritating. Plus, I am sure they'll take the same lazy route with Revelations, despite the fact that the ability to move while pointer aiming would have been amazing. Thankfully, RE6 plays much more like a third person shooter, so the same issues aren't prevalent there, though it certainly wouldn't have hurt either.
In a glowing example of how quality and sales are not even correlated, let alone causal, this has passed Street Fighter II as Capcom's highest selling game ever. They might be my most purchased Capcom games as well, as I had to buy this damn thing four times to find a version I'd finish, while I've had SFII on just about every platform I've ever owned.
Resident Evil 5 is a good game, though.
RE5 selling more than SF2 is like Titanic outgrossing Gone With the Wind. It's a different world now. SF2 SNES didn't have 10 different ports, $5 sales, free-with-membership offers, etc.
RE5 is probably the worst numbered game in the series. Granted, Resident Evil is like pizza but still. I wonder if "Street Fighter II" is to be taken literally or if all iterations count. If it's the latter, there's a lot more than 10 different ports, and it's been included in lots of $5 sales and offers.
This is just more boring Capcom PR bullshit. Even combining only SF2 and Turbo breaks 10 million.
I haven't finished 6 yet. That's why I said "probably." 5 is definitely worse than 1-4 and Revelations though. At least the first version of 6 I bought is playable.
I had a good time co-oping RE5 with Japan San Corey.
That really was a lot of fun.
True, Resident Evil 6 is kind of horrible. I picked it up for $10 during one of the XBL On Demand sales and played through what felt like about half of Leon's campaign and part of Chris's and haven't been able to bring myself to finish the game. I was actually shocked with how much I disliked 6, and I think a lot of that has to do with Capcom's awful presentation and controls.
I'd rather play RE5/6 than 1-3. Dealwithit.jpg
I had a lot of fun playing RE5 co-op. I think I've played through it 4 times (always with someone else) since it was launched. I really tried to give RE6 a shot but it just wasn't as fun as the previous games and I really didn't like how the campaigns were split up.
I'd say 5 is better than 3 but behind 1, 2, & 4.
Re 5 and 6 are both awesome games... Co-op only. But it is REALLY HARD to find great co ok games. 5 and 6 are absolutely at the top of the list.
I liked 5 more than 6. But 6 was good too. CO-OP ONLY. anyone playing this alone really is missing out on the reason for the existence of these.
I'm interested to see what they are going to do in the new one. But I'll be sad if they don't deliver another stellar co op experience, as that is what I have come to expect.
4 is my fav of the action-y games, but no co op, so it's different. 2 is the better of the horror games. 3 kinda sucks.
