RR7 is certainly the version to own if you're going to own one but if you already have RR6 you can pass on it. It's really RR 6.5.
Both are awesome games, however, and I've finally come to accept nitrous as part of the series.
Does RR7 have enough new content to make it worth buying? The customization intrigues me; I thought the dumbest part of 6 was that it gave you no indication of the differences between each car, I'm hoping it's more evident in 7. It's only the one new track, right? Did they add much in the way of vehicles & music? Is the game as obscenely long as World Exporer? And do you notice any difference whatsoever in the visuals? I've seen screen comparions that are supposed to make it look better, but I honestly couldn't tell.
Ridge Racer, Rave Racer, Rage Racer, RRV, RR64, and RRDS are completely obsolete and there's no reason to play them now. RRIV is still good if want a RR game before boost was introduced, and RR6/RR7 is the most current version so it's the prettiest.You should bust out BOR 360 on Live and race me, I need to play that game more often.Quote:

1. No, not for the price discrepancy considering you can get RR6 from around $19-$29 and RR7 costs $60. If you bought RR6 at full price, I'd be hardpressed to buy RR7. If you bought RR6 at $20, then I'd seriously consider RR7. RR7 is the version to own, but it's hard to advocate paying another $60 unless you're a huge fan. I'd do it, but I wouldn't advise someone else to.
2. Customization seems cool, you can buy an extra nitrous tank, buy flex nitrous, engine upgrades, and tire upgrades seem legit, everything else seems a bit cosmetic, but I can't speak on this yet. These seem like they may be more geared towards towards online play and honestly, I have not gone online with either RR6 or RR7.
3. Not sure how many total new tracks there are but it's more than one.
4. I will have to put in more time. There is a slipstreaming meter now, though, which is fucking sweet.
5. RR7's Ridge State GP seems like it will be as drawn out as RR6's World Explorer.
6. I'm running RR7 through HDMI so that may have an effect, but it looks a little more coloful, otherwise I can't really tell much of a difference. I would lean towards saying that RR7 looks better overall, but that could just be due to the extra year of development.
I agree, the old RR's are now obsolete. I just can't go back to those visuals and the pre-nitrous gameplay.
There's less nuance to PGR's driving model than in any of the earlier RR games, though like I said, the driving in RR6 and RR7 is much less demanding. Even then, my biggest complaint about the PGR games is the track designs. So damn boring. Ridge Racer consistently spanks PGR (and most racing games) on that front.
And I dunno, maybe it's because I play Gran Turismo 4 and played Forza for a long time, but PGR is nowhere near "clinical study" category for me. The driving model in PGR is pretty damn arcadey, just restrained compared to stuff like Ridge Racer and Daytona.I would still recommend both R4 and RRV. I prefer R4 personally, but RRV is more demanding and stands well on its own for that. Both games are much better than RR6/7.
Wiki says 22 tracks but I read a review that said 21, so six or seven new tracks unless both are on crack. Brand new soundtrack but it felt weaker than RR6's.
Namco should have included more songs instead of letting us pay for the good stuff through micro transactions.
That's cool, you guys actually make R7 sound pretty decent. I had though that it was only the Buddha forest track that they added. I only paid $15 cdn for RR6 new, so it wouldn't be that bad buying 7 (not that I have any means to play it anyway).
RR6's soundtrack is decent, but the microtransaction songs are totally worthless. They're stored in something called the player's disc, which they forgot to give you access to in races. So you can choose a song to start a race, but if you're doing more than one you're stuck because the second race will just be from a random dics (not the player's though).
With Oblivion being delayed a month here I'm probably gonna pick it up. Six or so stages makes sense since there was about three routes on every enviroment in RR6.
And yea the setup for the micro songs was stupid but I still bough Discoball, so awesome.
