Windows Media Player

It refuses to play sound. If I'm playing an audio file I get the pretty lights and colors, but no sound. This normally isn't a problem since I use Media Player Classic, however today I want to watch the new Coheed and Cambria video on www.mtv2.fuck.you.josh.com

So the site won't recognize that I have wm9 installed, so I upgrade to wm10, still no luck. Uninstall and rollback to wm9. No good.

Any tips? I really want to watch this video, and the "animated shorts" they're doing over the next month.

I can't watch the music videos at myspace either. Its all "You need WM9 installed nigga" and I'm all "Yeah, I've got that" and its all "lol fuck you then".

btw. this was supposed to be in circuit board. Anyone want to move it?

Mine looks all shitty now. Ever since I updated my graphics card drivers, the picture is all washed out and the colors are off. I've messed around with the option settings, and it just makes it look worse. Sound works okay.

Realmedia files are jacked up, too. Quicktime movies still look great, however.

You might be missing the required audio codec.

Google up a program called "G-Spot", and try to load the video into it if you can. The program analyzes the video and tells you what codecs it needs.

Then go look for the codec!

If you cant load the video into the program, then just try to make sure Xvid, Divx, etc. are all updated.

I'm having essentially the same problem actually, Media Player isn't working for any plug-ins and I've upgraded and re-installed a few times. It's starting to get irritating.

The shitty mac version of WMP won't even install.

I've installed a shitload of software on my mac, a lot of it homebrew, and the only thing that has ever failed to install is WMP.

That's just pathetic.

Media Player, like almost every piece of Microsoft software, is pretty bad and only gets worse with every update. I once updated to WMP9 and it made browsing folders in Explorer super slow. When I formatted my HDs, I reinstalled Windows but only with WMP 6.4. It works pretty well for most stuff, though it's not compatible with certain websites (I think Yahoo Music doesn't work, MTV maybe, too). It's a solid sacrifice for having to deal with the newer versions of the program.

I don't like jumping on the hate-Microsoft bandwagon. I like Windows (in general). But for real, the worst programs I've ever used are new Media Players, Microsoft Publisher, and Microsoft Word (Word is by far the biggest heap of trash ever).

Open Office and Wordperfect are both suitable replacements.
