I go to university next year, and this has got me wondering about what my life will be like during that time, and how things will turn out after.
I have no idea whatsoever about either.
Is your current life and lifestyle as you thought it would be when you were my age and leaving school, or have you surprised yourself?

I was a dumbass and got married. Other than that, it is more or less the way I envisioned.
I saw myself in Europe by now or the Peace Corps, not retail.
Then again, I'll take finding old ladies the dish towels on sale long before I'll go try and teach Africans not to give eachother AIDS.
As of now I'm exactly where I thought I would be, my last year of undergrad. Hopefully all will go well and I will get a job out of school, and if so, that's exactly where I thought I would be.
I figured I'd be a firefighter, or an astronaut.
I am neither of those things.
I guess my life is pretty much as I thought it would be. I have a hotter girlfriend than I imagined I'd have, and a shittier job. I guess it balances out
I work for a great company for great pay and benefits, I have a real cool girlfriend, and I'm not in as much debt as most others my age. I don't think that's really what I was imagining when I was younger, but I definitely wanted to be successful.
I'm heading to dorm life in two days. In that sense, I'm where I expected.
In every other sense, not even close.

well, aint a priest or a marine or dead, so i missed those predicitons, but im doing a similar job to what i wanted, and am happier than i had thought i was going to be when i was a kid.
I thought by now I'd be in grad school trying to get my PhD, but I abandoned that plan. I have a great job, great girlfriend, etc. etc. It's really all working out way better than I thought it would, even 6 months ago. The only big problem I have is student loans, but without any other debt (no car loan, no credit card, etc.) I should be able to knock that out quickly and become rich before Im 40. The first million is the hardest, though.

Long and boring answer:
I never really had any preconception of what my life would be.
I assumed I would end up dead or in jail, but I've managed to stay out of trouble.
Having good grades and getting some scholarships led me down the academic path, but that didn't work out so well.
University/college fucked me over twice, once by canceling my physics program, and again by changing my electronics engineering program into shitty telecom, so I'm pretty much through with post-secondary education.
At least I dropped out with honours, though. :)
It didn't help that my dad died while I was at university, and my mom died after my first year at college.
I was really on edge the whole time, and all of the bureaucratic fuck-ups I had to put up with at school just put me over the edge.
I could have switched programs and started over, but I have a very low bullshit tolerance.
I've never had any interest in relationships or having children, so on that front, everything is just as I had expected.
Right now I'm just pissing away my inheritance and dreading the wage-slave life that awaits me once it's all gone.
The only thing I'm really interested in at the moment is getting back into shape and rocking the kung-fu.
D= sorry to hear about your folks. I don't know what I'd do if my folks, or even my grandmother died. They support me so much in school, and I don't mean money wise. They cut me a lot of slack and keep helping me even though I've fucked up 4 or 5 times now.
I have a great deal of respect for my dad for getting through medical school even though his dad died in the middle of it.

It was pretty rough, but I have three older siblings and my friends to support me.
I don't want to give the impression that my life is fucked because of what happened, because my parents were really the unfortunate ones.
My dad died only a year or so before he would have retired, and my mom was starting to really enjoy life when she died.
I only went to university to make my parents happy and get out of their hair, and I only went to college to get a good co-op job to pay off my debt from university (college is way cheaper than university here).
Now I have no parents and no debt, so I have no desire to put myself through school again.
The funny thing is, as empty and meaningless as my life is, I really don't want anything more.

I'm exactly where I thought I would be four years ago, when I started school. I just got to my PHD program, and things are going pretty well. I have to take the examinations for the first time in a week, we get four tries, over two years, to pass two exams. I think I can pass one of them right now, which puts me about a year ahead of schedule.

When I was younger I wanted to go to MIT and start a computer company and be rich. When I was in my early years of Highschool I wanted to be a rapper (thank God I grew out of that) and in my later years of Highschool I wanted to be a Green Beret or a Marine, I still have a bit of vision when it involves being a Marine but my life got kind've fucked up when it comes to the military.
Now I'm working a blue-collar job as a service technician for pumps, well drilling and water conditioning. I'm making close to 40K a year and have the potential of making 6 figures with a yearly average of around 60-70K a year depending on how fast business is and things involving sales of various things we work with. I'm also getting ready to make a lot of good moves with music which may cause me to quit my job in the future. I'm in a Black Metal band and a Death Thrash type band, the Black Metal band being my own and the other one just one I'm doing vocals for and Mykozo and I are putting together a record label in the future if all goes well.
I can certainly still see myself being dead before 30 which I've always thought I wouldn't make it to but maybe I'll live longer.
When I was, like, eight, I thought I'd be this buff badass, with arms as thick as tree trunks and I'd drive a jet pack to school, and I'd make all the other kids jealous, so I'd beat 'em up.
I still want that jet pack, though.
I'm getting my results from my examinations (maths, further maths, physics, chemistry and music) I took this summer, which pretty much defines which university I can get into when I apply in two months time (I go September 2006).
I'm hoping to go to Cambridge (to study maths), and I think if I get straight As I have a good chance, but if I don't get straight As, then I need not apply, as entry is difficult; there are four candidates per place.
So tomorrow pretty much defines my future in terms of which university I go to.

Its actually tougher to get to vet school than med school (because there's so few of them), and the pay is really really good. Especially if you move to Lexington, KY or some other horse-racing place and work on the horses.

So I just got my results this morning:
Physics - A - 95% Avg
Chemistry - A - 85% Avg
Maths - A - 96% Avg
Music - B - 72% Avg (boundary for A was 80%)
Further maths: Statistics - 87%
Decision Maths - 71%
I'm disappointed about music, I was really hoping for an A there.
I thought I would have done better in the two further maths modules, but its not the end of the world as they don't count till next year, when I tie them up with another module (a pure one, with lots of calc, which is good), which I will hopefully get a better mark in.
I'll still apply to Cambridge, as out of those subjects, music is the most irrelevant. Hopefully I'll get in.

When I was young, I was Nintendo hardcore. It was ridiculous. As a result, I decided that I wanted to work in the video game industry.
Still not there yet, but I'm okay where I'm at now. I make a pretty good salary and I should have all of my college loans paid off by the end of this year. I plan to go to Carnegie Melon's Masters of Entertainment Technology program, but probably not until the 2007-2008 term. If I get into the program, that will pretty much springboard me into the video game industry, unless I find out I really hate it.
