i've been to virginia beach a few times. i really don't like the place. i'm a city kid, though and i'm used to being able to walk, take the bus or metro places. if you live there you have to have a car...or you'll just be stuck in your house all the time. it's a great place to be if you don't like going out much. all this hit me last weekend when i was there visiting a friend who just moved up there for some chick. anyway, he pointed out to me the competitive prices all over the place for car repairs. there are a few bits of "revitalization" going on...but i think it's all really shity. the downtown area is nice but expensive as hell to live in. but yeah...if you grew up in a place where you have to drive everywhere anyway, you won't have too much of a problem living there. hope that helps out some.
I live in Chesapeake which is right next to Virginia Beach and I've spent my entire life in the area so I guess it's not so bad. Norfolk has some pretty nice places to eat, you'll find that you'll beceome familiar with your neighboring six cities because.. well, you just do. But it's not bad, I would rather live here than anywhere else in the state, especially around DC. Hate Northern Virginia.
Oh and yeah, you'll need a car. I've never really noticed until raza mentioned it, but a car is a must have in this area.
Oh and Short Pump Mall is like two hours away.
