OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Police took a 16-year-old girl into custody Friday night in the slaying of her mother, KMBC reported.
Officers were called to the 5600 block of West 125th Street at about 5:30 p.m. KMBC's Krista Klaus reported that the husband of Sue Zhang, 55, found her body. She had been stabbed to death.
"I'm shocked. She's such a nice little girl, her parents are nice. I don't know what happened," neighbor Barbara Jacobs said.
Jacobs said she was friendly with the family across the street.
"If you'd wave or talk to them, they'd talk to you," Jacobs said.
Classmates of the teen said the she had been sent home from school Friday for unusual behavior.
Police would not comment on the teen's state of mind, saying only that she is their only suspect.
"We took a 16-year-old female into custody, who is the daughter of the victim. She had minor injuries," police spokesman Jim Weaver said.
