Possibly. It's paying in full months early where you get hit harder. The point to me is that unless you are getting an extremely obscure title, you aren't getting any value out of that money.

I'm not making any decisions for you. I'm trying to make people think the right way about their finances. There are more kinds of costs out there than the price tag on the item. Tax is one. Opportunity cost is another.

Who said anything about buying from Gamestop or EB? I got FEAR strait from the developers website free of shipping and tax. Now if you want to have a STUPID DEBATE on if I keept every other dollar I had and put it in the back then do it by yourself because its up to the person weither he choose to save 5 dollars or to save 500 dollars. Your original argument was did I lose money from buying the game FEAR. I just proved I didn't and saved some. Any other person will be paying $50 for the game.

Could you have ordered the game the day before it's released and paid the same price? If they don't bill your card until it ships, then you're right. You did fine, because if you pay off your card right away, you floated the preorder for free.

I used a debit card.

I agree that pre-order is basically pointless nowadays, even obscure games you can get on release day/week if you try (unless you live in the middle of nowhere, but if you have an internet connection, it is really not even a valid excuse). The only times I ever pre-ordered anything were back when I could return games back to EB/GS for store credit (and not money back), I would put the credit toward something I want.

But, the interest you lose putting $5 or $10 down (the opportunity cost) is so small that it is not even worth mentioning, unless you preorder every game under the sun (wait, Morphix? but then again, he doesn't give a crap anyway). It is good business for GS/EB to presell games. Do you honestly care you lose $.50 over the course of 2/3 months? People pay way more than that for peace of mind (in this case, guaranteeing a copy of the game) in other things, like INSURANCE.

For me it's the principle. EA and GameStop gouge every chance they get, so I'll be damned if I am going to allow them to get another $0.50 from me. The only time I shop there is when I have to have a game day one, and nowhere has it on sale that week.

Hah, you wouldn't earn that much interest in a year with interest rates the way they are, let alone a month or two. You'd be missing out on maybe 5 cents of interest at best. Awful small amount for Yoshi to be busting a corrollary about.

Exactly and I didn't even put 5 bucks down for the game. He just went off of what he thought he was right about to start a pointless debate.
