Nintendogs Sells 250,000 in First Week

'Nintendogs' (NDS) Sells 250,000 Units in First Week
Nintendo announced on Thursday its new puppy training game Nintendogs sold 250,000 units in its first week, making it the hottest-selling title in the United States.

Nintendo released the game, which allows players to choose, name and train their puppy, for its Nintendo DS handheld player on August 22.
The Nintendo DS, a dual-screen system, was released in November and had sold 1.97 million units in the United States as of July. Nintendo in mid-August cut the price of the DS by $20 to $129.99.

"Nearly 15 percent of all DS owners bought Nintendogs in just a week," said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing.

Fils-Aime said Nintendogs, which lists for around $29.99, and the recent DS price cuts are helping to drive sales of its new handheld player.

I sorta felt this way at first, til i got a second puppy. Now it seems like theres more than enough.

that's what I told him to do, of course his wife said he can't sell it because it is "hers" even though he bought it for himself. Last night she was like "I have to walk my dog! Where's the DS?!"

Actually I'm kinda suprised it went off so well. the commercials were terrible. Especially that one with the boy getting girls to come over to his house and play.

Anyone with a brain knew Nintendogs would sell through the roof, it was basically a license to print money for Nintendo. Except Nintendo played their stupid old game of product allocations, and now nobody can buy it until late September because it's sold out everywhere.

The DS really isn't in a position where Nintendo can afford to let people forget they want one. It's nice that they sold a lot of Nintendogs, but I'll never understand why they walk away from money on the table by short printing.

Also- so what'd DiffX do this time to get banned?

Are you sure that link relates to his banning? He doesn't really say much in it aside from one or two posts. Anyway, if diffusionx were here he'd probably say:

A) It's not the best selling videogame ever. Halo 2 a year ago beats it so it's not like being the "hottest selling" really means much, and for a handheld game it's doing well. This is one game out of how many Nintendo's been throwing at the fan. The game is more of a demo mini-game that tires after 30 minutes anyway. 20 dollars would still be too high. Nintendo sux kthx. 15% of the DS fanbase is, what, 2 people? *hyuk yuk yuk*

I think the idea is great, but the game itself probably gets boring too fast.

This is the case with every Dogs or Cats game. I remember being completely addicted to the Game Boy Color version of Dogs when it came out - two days later I sold it at GameStop. They're no better than Tamagachis if you ask me.

I thought so at first when I began to play the Japanese import at work. Played it for a bit over a week and I grew to like it more than I expected. I ended up buying the US version and playing it all over again. I can't really stand to play it more than about 10-15 minutes at a time, but I pick it up at least a couple times a day. Definitely still fun to play with in short spurts. There are plenty of long-term objectives to shoot for, and just going for walks to unlock new goodies is fun in the way that playing slots is fun (you might get something cool).

Anyway enough diffusionx talk. I'm sure he'll be back soon enough to fill the void. But it's good to hear that they put some longevity in to the game. Still, I'm apprehensive. I don't own a DS anyway so it's not like I'll be playing it, but it's something I want to try.
