roberts is still pending, he seems pretty likely to get in. sad to see that it happened, but he looked horrible, we knew it was coming soon.
So Bush gets to appoint two judges. Thats not a lot for a two term president. But for the sake of rational people everywhere, let there not be a third.
I can hear the din of liberal cries echoing in my head. ;)
Tragic. I thought with his return to the bench and no announcement of retirement he'd get through this. I see that optimism was ill-founded. He looked terrible, but I didn't expect it just like this... RIP.
My preferred outcome now is Bush find someone in his or Scalia's mold for replacement, a woman if possible, elevate Scalia or Thomas to Chief, and get Roberts through. I am skeptical about Roberts though. I think Bush could've been bolder and made a better pick, but it's his call. I'll remember this game of roulette with picks 20 years from now depending on how it works out.
well, in spirit i agree, but considering the level of criticism he gets by the left wing for blowing his nose, i though roberts was a solid pick because he came so well reccomended by the bar association, and how moderate his veiws were, it blunted any ciritcism that he was picking a radical conservative forthe bench, and made another "borking" highly unlikely. so far most attacks on him have blown up on the people launching them(the naral adds that alleged he sympathised with clinic bombers went deliciously well ;) ), so i can see why he did it. regardless of how it pans out, he cant do worse than his father did with david souter, the stealth bomb.Quote:

I wish the Nixon-appointed Rehnquist and the Reagan-appointed O'Connor could have sat on the bench forever, but at least it's not Clinton that is replacing them.Quote:

Anyone who advocates elevating him declares their hatred for America.
I was sad to see him go. I remember back a few weeks (months?) ago when they were speculating whether or not he would step down, and I was glad to see he didn't.
I guess it doesn't matter much now.
But, I am slightly concerned about who Bush could pick to replace any of the justices who might leave in the next two years. Just because the administration will be out in two years, doesn't mean the repercussions will.
