Sega Rally 2006

I really wish they'd put this out on something else...there have only ever been like 5 developers who really managed to make the PS2 sing, and Sega's not on that list. But I think they want money or something, which I guess involves people actually owning the system you put stuff out on.

Thanks to our good friends at EA deep-sixing the Rallisport series, it's basically this or Colin McRae, which is the bomb but not for the faint of heart. I hope they make it actually possible to finish this one.

Sega Rally 2006 will be the first time that a new version of the racing game series has debuted on a console instead of in arcades. As a result, the game was designed with a career mode in mind to give it more longevity than its arcade counterparts, which were meant for a few minutes of playing at a time. The player's objective in career mode is to go from amateur racer to professional driver, racking up rally wins in a number of different regions along the way. Aside from the career mode, the game features the standard arcade mode and time attack mode.

Development of Sega Rally 2006 is currently 90 percent complete. The game will be available for play at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show.

Wait, what? I don't remember this. And it makes me sad.

Rallisport was my favorite rally game ever. I still need to pick up the sequel sometime. If it's improved over the first in any way, I will probably never need another rally game again anyway.

I'm pretty sure it was made by D.I.C.E., which is now assimilated to the EA master machine. Where I'm sure EA is only cracking the Battlefield whip.

We'll see Rallisport Challenge renamed to Need for Speed: Dirt Edition or some bullshit. It'll be all shiny, even though it takes place far outside the city, and you'll get to play Barbie dress up with the cars to make them look like a Mexican should be driving them.

Sega Rally 2006 = Instant purchase. The PS2 only equates to Zzzzz if you have no taste in games and are solely a graphics whore.

I'll give a specific example. I passed a guy yesterday driving a freaking Saturn, this shittiest of all American-made cars, pimped out with a spoiler, wide tires, and a lowered frame. Yes, he was Mexican. Stereotypes exist for a reason. It's called personal experience. Other "stereotypes" I believe in about Mexicans from personal experience is that they are friendly and family-oriented.

I wish Sega the best of luck with Rally 06, but unless they hired the people from DICE that made Rallisport it's not going to compare.

In other rally game news, Richard Burns finally is comming out on Xbox in the US.

around 3 years, sony's money and 1st party technical info helps a ton. Rally 2006 will have none of this.

Notice I didnt call it the console with the shittiest games. I called it the shittiest console. Big difference..

Wow, that car model looks amazing. It's kind of a shame their going all simfest, but the game looks like a suitable replacement for the dearly departed Rallisport.

The visuals they managed to squeeze out of PS2 are pretty darn impressive, too. better than Need for Speed on 360

I was browsing an Xbox360 mag, and there is an interview with SEGA folks. It states somewhere that updates to Daytona and Sega Rally are coming in 2006. But who knows.

IMO, Rallisport 2 is the benchmark to aim for; for pure fun anyway. Maybe EA will squeeze DICE to make a new one? Oh wait, it's EA so it will never happen.

Or maybe Microsoft will find someone to take over the franchise?
